Mint division, natural peppermint oil, pine division and essential oil division. The crystal size is graded by sieving machine into large, small, medium, rice and fine before final packaging. Having botanical name Mentha piperita, Menta Oil offered is also known by the common name of Menthol Liquid and has its country of origin in USA. The oil is extracted using steam distillation process and has scent that is mint like and pungent. With aroma that is invigorating, stimulating and uplifting, the oil aids in digestion s well as providing a calming effect on muscle spasms, pains and aches. The oil can also be used in alleviating sinus pain and pressure, in muscle rub ointments, in skin care products as well as in balancing oil content of skin and hair. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Primary Data Collection:

To collect the primary data I had worked with Swati Menthol and collected the information about the company by discussing with various departmental heads, as well as direct contact with the companies, talked to managers, distributors.

Secondary Data Collection:

I have collected the details and performance of the organization. Besides the report, internet data, books, several magazines like several articles, along with internal records like manuals, brochures, magazines etc. were used for explanation.

Research Design:
In view of the objective of the project, a descriptive research design has been adopted. I have tried to interpret available information and it lays particular emphasis on analysis of the existing and available information with both primary and secondary data.

Menthol mint essential oil is the main source of natural menthol. The dementholised oil (DMO) is reconstituted to produce oil similar to Mentha piperita oil. Several of the many dozens of terpenes present in the essential oil are valuable compounds that find uses in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Menthol itself is used as a flavouring agent mouthrelated produces such as fresheners, tooth pastes and chewing gums, etc. Menthol mint oil because of its antimicrobial properties enhances the shelf of edible products and grains. Menthol mint oil is an essential ingredient of the ointments, pain balms, lozenges and syrups. It is also used in cosmetic preparations, colognes, deodorants, cosmetics, etc. In India, menthol and mint oil are extensively used in betel (pan) related industries. Natural Menthol Crystals offered are used in most of the industries including in pharmaceutical, Food and in varied flavoring applications. These menthol crystals are also known by name of chemical name of 1-Methyl-4-Isopropyl Cyclohexane 3 and are colorless crystals with refreshing mint color. With solubility in Alcohol and slightly in water, these have cool sensation in mouth and are made by fractional distillation of menthol oil. Here, the distillation process yields pure menthol as fraction which is slowly cooled and then crystallized. The chilling is done at temperatures of -40C that helps in separation of menthol. Having a characteristic odor of natural menthol as obtained from mentha avensis oil, some of the end usage areas of these natural menthol crystals include in food, cigarettes, toothpastes and cosmetics. It is also used in pharmaceutical areas like in Drugs, MedicatedOils,Analgesicbalms,RubbingAlcohol.

PROCESS OF DERIVING MENTHOL CRYSTALS

Stage 1: Farmers level

Mentha arvens is leaves are boiled and oil is extracted. Iron vessel is used for the same.

Stage 2: Industry level

Mentha oil extracted in stage 1 is frozen to minus 60 degrees Celsius. This takes about 6 to 7 days. Aluminium vessel is used here. The output consists of 30% DeMentholised Oil (DMO) and 70% Flakes.

Stage 3: Industry Level

These flakes are heated at 40 degrees Celsius. The liquid obtained is filtered by cloth and loaded into a machine. Crystals are sown in this liquid and kept for 15 to 20 days. The output is 70% crystal and 30% residual mentha flakes. Iron vessel is used in this process.

DISTILLATION & PROCESSING

The Oil derived from the Mentha Arvensis herb (MENTHA OIL) by steam distillation, which is the basic raw material required for the Menthol Manufacture. By freezing (chilling) of Mentha oil LMenthol (Crystals & Flakes) are isolated. In India there is two type of Menthol CRYSTALS & FLAKES, some manufacturers are processing to their shape and size BOLD (Large crystals, Medium crystals, Small crystals, Flakes in shape of powder. Rest mother liquor by centrifuging calls Dementholised Peppermint oil. Menthol is main constitutent in Mentha oil Rest contains Menthone, Menthyl Acetate, Neomenthol, Mint terpenes, Alfapinene, Beta Pinene. Llimonene, 3-Octanol, Pipritone are also main contents to use as raw material to produce Value added products for Flavour and fragrances Industry. The process may be divided into two steps, firstly menthol flakes are produced by chilling mint oil and secondly menthol flakes mixed with mint oil again chilled to produce bold crystals of menthol. The total recovery of menthol in the first step is around 70% . The time cycle for first step is around 67 days. In the second step, menthol flakes mixed with certain proportion of mint oil kept under temperature control for about 25 days.Themother liquor (conc. Mint oil ) is a bye product and can be used again till decolourisation of oil occurs. Total recovery of bold menthol crystals is about 50 %.

Tanakpur is a town and a municipal board in Champawat district in the Indianstate of Uttarakhand. Known in the northern part of India as the gateway for the Purnagiri Temple (around 30 km from here), Tanakpur is a calm and small town located on riverside of Sarda River.
