Chapter 30. Probability Definition of probability, random experiments, sample space, events, simple problems on single events (tossing a coin, throwing a dice, pulling a card from a pack of cards etc.)
EXAM PRIMER 2 - 80 marks In addition to the syllabus of Exam Primer 1, the following topics will be assessed. Chapter 8. Ratio Comparison of ratios, Duplicate, triplicate, sub-duplicate, sub-triplicate compounded ratios, word problems on ratios. Chapter 9. Proportion Meaning of proportion, continued proportion, Proportionals, mean proportion. Properties of a proportion, (Invertendo, Alternendo, Componendo, Dividendo, Componendo-Dividendo) k-method Chapter 13. Distance and Section Formula Distance formula as applied in various situations, Similarly for Section Formula (internal sections only)/mid-point formula/centroid formula Chapter 14. Equation of a straight line (i) (ii) (iii) Slope-intercept formula y = mx + c;, two-point formula (y y1)/(x x1) = (y2 y1)/(x2 x1), slope-point formula (y y1) = m (x2 x1),
Geometric understanding of m as slope/gradient/tan where is the angle of inclination of the line with the positive direction of x-axis. Geometric understanding of c as being the y-intercept/the ordinate of the point where the line intercepts the y-axis. Conditions for two lines being parallel or perpendicular to each other. Chapter 16. Similarity (Size Transformation) Similarity as a size transformation (enlargement and reduction). Application to maps and models using scales/scale factors (linear k, area k2, volume k3). Chapter 17. Similarity (Triangles) Three axioms for similarity in triangles, the Basic Proportionality theorem, their direct applications, and also application to areas of similar triangle. Chapter 18. Loci Definition of a locus, its meaning. Theorems of locus to include locus of a point moving such that: (i) it is at a constant distance from a fixed point; (ii) it is equidistant from two fixed points; (iii) equidistant from a given line; (iv) equidistant from two parallel lines (v) equidistant from two intersecting lines. Word problems on (a) stating a locus, (b) drawing /sketching a locus (c) constructing a locus. Chapter 19 to chapter 21. CIRCLES Theorems/Properties as shown in the text-book: (i) Chord properties, Angle Properties, Tangent Properties. Their direct applications. Chapter 22. Constructions Using a pair of compasses and a ruler only, (i) (ii) construction of tangents from an external point to a circle; Circumscribing and inscribing a circle on/in a triangle and a regular hexagon.
Chapter 23. Mensuration 1, Circumference and Area of a Circle Direct applications of the concept to problems on circles, semi-circles, quadrants. On combination of circles with other simple geometrical shapes like isosceles/equilateral triangle, rectangle, rhombus, square, inner and outer areas. Chapter 24. Mensuration 2, Cone and Sphere Right circular cone, sphere solid and hollow - Surface areas (for plain and curved surfaces). Their volumes. Word problems based on these objects. Situations where Archimedes Principle is applicable.
Chapter 25. Trigonometrical Identities (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) (vi) Using the 3 fundamental identities, proving other given identities. Properties of complementary angles Memorising/using values of trigo ratios of standard angles (0, 30, 45, 60, 90) Evaluating trigo expressions using above properties/values. Solving simple equations involving trigo ratios. Reading/using trigo tables
Chapter 26. Heights and Distances. Using trigonometric ratios, solving word problems in 2-D involving angles of elevation and depression. Situations with maximum 2 right-angles triangles will be considered. PRE-BOARD EXAM - 80 marks In addition to the syllabus of Exam Primer 2, the following topics will be assessed. Chapter 27. Graphical representation of statistical data. Basic concepts of data, their representation through bar graphs, histogram, pie-chart, frequency polygon, ogive. Chapters 28 and 29. Measures of Central tendency Mean, Median and Mode. Finding the median of ungrouped data using the cumulative frequency table and for grouped data using the ogive. Median class of grouped data, Quartiles, interquartile range, semi-interquartile range, questions based on the ogive. Finding the mode of ungrouped data from frequency distribution table, and for grouped data using the histogram. Bi-modal, tri-modal data. Modal class of grouped data.
