Reflections & Preparation for Worship O God, by Your power may we, together with all the saints, comprehend the breadth and length and height and depth of the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that we may be filled with Your fullness. Amen. ~ based on Ephesians 3:18-19

God, we yearn to be the church you want us to become. Shape us into something beautiful. We recognize that you are the Potter and we are the clay. Please continue to mold us into the image of Christ. We want to join what you are already doing in the world. In our worship and life together, in our ministry and service to others We want to give people a glimpse of your intentions for the whole world. Help us to welcome the outcasts, love our enemies, And form a community that is visible different than the culture around us As a sign of what you are doing in this world. Help us to experience your love and grace, Grow in our relationship with Jesus, And experience the power of your Spirit As we offer your Good News to others. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen. ~JR Woodward, Church Planter in California

God Calls Us To Worship Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. ~ Psalm 150:6
The Call to Worship Leader: People: Leader: Unison: ~ from Psalm 86:8-10 & 73:25-26

There is none like You, O Lord, nor are there any works like Yours. All the nations You have made shall come and bow down before You, O Lord, and glorify Your name. For You are great and do wondrous things, You alone are God! Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and My portion forever!

Hymns of Praise & Worship O Worship the King O worship the King all glorious above And gratefully sing His wonderful love Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days Pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise O tell of His might, O sing of His grace Whose robe is the light, Whose canopy space His chariots of wrath the deep thunder clouds form And dark is His path on the winds of the storm Thy bountiful care what tongue can recite? It breathes in the air, it shines in the light It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain And sweetly distills in the dew and the rain Frail children of dust and feeble as frail In Thee do we trust, nor find the to fail Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend Better is One Day How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty My soul longs and even faints for You For here my heart is satisfied Within Your presence I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings chorus: Better is one day in Your courts

Better is one day in Your house Better is one day in Your courts Than thousands elsewhere (repeat) One thing I ask and I would seek To see Your beauty To find You in the place Your glory dwells (repeat chorus) My heart and flesh cry out For You, the living God Your Spirits water for my soul Ive tasted and Ive seen Come once again to me I will draw near to You I will draw near to You (repeat chorus) Agnus Dei Alleluia, alleluia For our Lord God Almighty reigns Alleluia, alleluia For our Lord God Almighty reigns Alleluia Holy, Holy Are You Lord God Almighty Worthy is the Lamb Worthy is the Lamb You are Holy, Holy Are You Lord God Almighty Worthy is the Lamb Worthy is the Lamb Amen

God Graciously Renews Us in Christ Have mercy on me, O God, in Your faithful love, in Your great tenderness wipe away my offenses; wash me thoroughly from my guilt, purify me from my sin. ~ Psalm 51:1-2
Call to Confession Leader: ~ from Isaiah 30:15, 18, &19b

The Lord God, the Holy One of Israel spoke through the prophet Isaiah, saying, In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength. Isaiah pleaded with the people, Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show mercy to youHe will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon

as He hears it, He answers you. Prayer of Confession

~ from Psalm 25:6-7, 11, 16-18

Unison: Remember Your mercy, O Lord, and Your steadfast love, for they have been of old. Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to Your steadfast love remember me for the sake of Your goodness ~ Silent confession & reflection For Your names sake, O Lord, pardon my guilt, for it is great. Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distress. Consider my affliction and trouble and forgive all my sins. Amen. The Words of the Gospel Leader: ~ based on Isaiah 53:4-5; 1 Peter 1:18; 2:18

Isaiah the prophet spoke about the coming Saviour of the word, Jesus Christ, when he said, Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His stripes we are healed. Understand then that you were ransomed not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ. He suffered for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous to bring us to God.

Song of Response How Deep You were broken that I might be healed You were cast off that I might draw near You were thirsty that I might come drink Cried out in anguish that I might sing How deep is Your love How high and how wide is Your mercy How deep is Your grace Our hearts overflow with praise To You You knew darkness that I might know light Wept great tears that mine might be dried Stripped of glory that I might be clothed Crushed by Your Father to call me Your own

God Gives Us His Words of Eternal Life Lord Jesus, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life! Let Your word dwell in us richly, that whatever we do, in word or deed, we may do everything in Your name, giving thanks to the Father through You. ~ based on John 6:68, Colossians 3:16-17

Todays Scripture Lesson: Praying for One Another: Praying Together, Staying Together
Mike Ivancic, Pastor

JAMES 5:13-18

13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

God Feeds Us His Covenant Meal From the east and the west, from the north and the south, people will come and take their places at the banquet in the Kingdom of God. ~ based on Luke 13:29
A Word About Participating in The Sacrament of The Lords Supper The Lords Supper is a special family meal that Christ gave to His Bride, the Church. For Christians, this meal is a time to receive these signs and seals of the New Covenant which Christ has established with them. Believers come to this Table to meet with their Lord and Saviour by faith, to be renewed by Him and strengthened in their callings and mission as they eat the bread and drink the wine. Therefore, all baptized Christians who trust in Christ alone as their Lord and Saviour, who are connected to a church that proclaims His Gospel, and who are at peace with their fellow believers, are invited to come to the Table. If you are not yet a Christian , or if for whatever reason you are not prepared to share in this meal, we would encourage you to spend this time in prayer (perhaps using one of the prayers listed below). Consider the invitation of Jesus, I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirstfor my Fathers will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day (John 6:35, 40). We would ask that children who have not yet professed belief in the Lord Jesus also refrain from partaking until doing so. The pastor would be delighted to speak to families about what it means to participate in the Lords Supper. The Words of Institution

The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lords death until he comes.
~ 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 The Sacrament of The Lords Supper Please come forward by rows to the center aisle and form a semi-circle in front of the Table to receive the bread and the wine. When finished, place your cup at the side tables and proceed to your seat via the outer isles. If you are unable to come forward, we would be delighted to serve you at your seat. New City Church uses wine in serving the Lords Supper . We would encourage you to take of the wine since it is a symbol of joy and celebration in Scripture. However, juice is also provided if you cannot drink wine due to health reasons or issues of conscience.

Prayers for Those Not Communing A Prayer Searching for the Truth: Jesus, You claim to be the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except by You. If what you claim is true, please guide me and teach me. Open to me the reality of who You are. Grant that I might be undaunted in following You as I consider the reasons for doing so. Give me an understanding of You that is coherent, convincing, and leads to the eternal life that You promise. Amen. A Prayer of Trust in the Lord Jesus: Jesus, I confess that I am more broken, flawed, and sinful than I had ever before dared to admit. Yet You tell me that I am more loved than I ever dared to hope, and that You accept all who turn to You in simple faith. I am doing that right now. I thank You for taking the justice that my sins deserved when You died on the Cross. I eagerly trust You for the forgiveness for my sins, and I receive from You now the eternal life that You promise to all who come to You. Amen. A Prayer for Those Struggling with Sin: Lord Jesus, You know the battle that rages within my heart. Grant that in my battles with sin, I may see in You the fulfillment of all my needs. Give me strength to turn from every false satisfaction to find my ultimate joy in You. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely to me, and fill me with your Spirit to run with perseverance the race you have set before me, looking to You, the pioneer and champion of my faith. Amen. A Prayer for Children (who have yet to profess faith): Jesus, the Bible tells me that You blessed kids like me. Help me to know who You are and to understand what You have done for me. Amen. Communion Hymns Lord, I Need You Lord, I come, I confess Bowing here I find my rest Without You I fall apart You're the One that guides my heart Lord, I need You, oh, I need You Every hour I need You My one defense, my righteousness Oh God, how I need You Where sin runs deep Your grace is more Where grace is found is where You are And where You are, Lord, I am free Holiness is Christ in me Lord, I need You, oh, I need You Every hour I need You My one defense, my righteousness Oh God, how I need You Teach my song to rise to You When temptation comes my way And when I cannot stand I'll fall on You Jesus, You're my hope and stay Lord, I need You, oh, I need You Every hour I need You My one defense, my righteousness Oh God, how I need You You're my one defense, my righteousness Oh God, how I need You My one defense, my righteousness Oh God, how I need You

The Prayers of the People

Leader: Unison:

Let us pray
(The leader prays for specific requests as the assembly prays along with him).

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts As we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, Now and forever. Amen.

The Presentation of our Tithes and Offerings This collection of our tithes and offerings is for those who consider New City Church their church family and regularly benefit from her ministry. If you are visiting with us, please feel no obligation to give. Hymn of Praise & Worship I Stand Amazed (How Marvelous) I stand amazed in the presence Of Jesus the Nazarene And wonder how He could love me A sinner, condemned, unclean Singing, chorus How marvelous! How wonderful! And my song shall ever be: How marvelous! How wonderful! Is my Savior's love for me! He took my sins and my sorrows He made them His very own And He bore the burden to Calvary And suffered and died alone When with the ransomed in glory His face I at last shall see Twill be my joy through the ages To sing of His love for me

The language of debt/debtor is not to be understood primarily in a financial sense but in the moral/ theological sense of our indebtedness due to our sins against God and others, or the sins others may have committed against us.

Our Confession of Faith Leader: Unison:

~ from the Heidelberg Catechism Q&A #60

Christian, how are you made right with God? Only by true faith in Jesus Christ. Even though my conscience accuses me of having grievously sinned against all God's commandments and of never having kept any of them, and even though I am still inclined to all evil, nevertheless, without my deserving it at all, out of sheer grace God grants and credits to me the perfect satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ, as if I had never sinned nor been a sinner, as if I had been as perfectly obedient as Christ was obedient for me. All I need to do is to accept this gift of God with a believing heart.

God Sends Us Out Into The World With His Blessing God has shown you what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. ~ from Micah 6:8
Leader: People: May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit (Galatians 6:18). Amen!

For more info, speak with Pastor Mike. Current Sermon Series: Life Together Life in Calgary can be busy. Too busy. And if we are honest, it can be a little depersonalizing. Surrounded by nearly 1.2 million people, many Calgarians are all too familiar with what sociologists call, crowded loneliness. Are we really meant to be surrounded by so many people and still be so unconnected? Sounknown? The short answer is no. This is simply just another way life is broken. And it is supposed to be so different. We are told that the early followers of Jesus devoted themselves to fellowship (Acts 2:42), that is, they devoted themselves to a new way of being human that they learned from Jesusa new way of doing life together. During the months of July & August, well be looking into the New Testament teaching about one another-ing, and well see that maybe, just maybe, we have been missing out on something vital to our humanity, to our Christianity, and to the mission that weve been sent on to this city.
