My responsibilities have ranged from supervising activity areas within the centre to transporting guests from their residences to the centre and back. These responsibilities have given me experience in dealing with a wide range of individuals and social situations, responding to their requirements, and managing my time successfully. June- September 2012 Camp Ockanickon, New Jersey, USA During the summer of 2012, for 14 weeks, I worked at the YMCA Camp Ockanickon in New Jersey, USA. During the 14 weeks I was working there, I completed training as a lifeguard, a boating instructor (canoeing, kayaking, and rowing), and as a camp counselor. My main job title was boating instructor, which meant that I was

responsible for running an activity area. I was secondly a camp counselor, meaning that while not running boating sessions, I was responsible for a group of up to seven children (who varied in age between 10 and 13). Due to my training as a lifeguard, I was called upon many times over summer to carry out this role. As well as guarding on beaches, I experienced a number of emergency drills during which the swimming areas had to be searched by diving lifeguards. This work experience taught me how to deal with a number of vastly different roles, as well as spefically the stresses and responsibilites which accompany certain situations. INTERESTS AND ACTIVITIES I play Trumpet at grade 5 standard, and have taken a keen interest in involving myself in various bands, including the NEMCO Wind Band and the Northumbria Youth Concert Band. I play Piano at grade 6 standard, and have played in a number of recitals, including a recital for the Ponteland Rotary club, in which I won the young musician of the year award. During high school, I belonged to a drama group and took part in several plays including Wind in the Willows, the Railway Children, and Bugsy Malone. I was admitted to membership of the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth in 2004. I received a silver certificate for the UK Intermediate Mathematical Challenge in 2006 I completed a work experience placement with BT, specialising in Telecommunications, in 2007 I received a certificate of achievement in sociology from Ponteland High School in 2010. I was the president of the St John's College Poker Society at Durham University. I hold a full motorcycle license as of November 2009, as well as a full car license as of April 2011. I spent several years as a member of the Woodcraft organisation. This helped shape my understanding about views of society and provided opportunities to partake in social change. I helped to organise fair trade stalls at Newcastle's Green Festival, wrote letters to Amnesty International in a campaign to aid political prisoners, talked with asylum seekers hoping to gain British Citizenship, and aided in campaigns against various non-green organisations. I was part of the Durham University canoe club, and took part in white water races, as well as ocean kayaking outside the club.
