Computer Application Areas in Textile industry | What is CAD/CAM? | Application of CAD/CAM in Textile Industry
Textile Industrial Application of Computers: Use of computer at various management levels in Industry. Use of spread sheets to calculate, Present and Analyze engineering data. Use of dif f erent Statistical methods to analyze engineering data. Use of Minitab (T M) sof tware . Use of dif f erent mathematical techniques to solve engineering problems. Use of Mat Lab (T M) sof tware. T he overall course objective is to provide the student with the background to understand and work withcomputer systems f or data acquisition, analysis, display and control of Textile processes. What is CAD/CAM? CAD is the contraction which stands f or Computer Aided Design and CAM is the Computer Aided Manuf acturing. T his term means dif f erent things to dif f erent people involved in designing, manuf acturing and mechanical engineering.CAD or Computer Aided Design has brought a revolution in the Textile industry. T he time consuming and cumbersome process of textile designing has been made easier by CAD. Now thoughtf ull and innovative designs are available to the textile designers and textile manuf acturers at the click of a mouse. Application of CAD/CAM in Textile Industry T he textile designs are the original works of the designers. CAD helps them to visualize and see their imaginative design in f inal f orm without producing any sample swatch. Sometimes, T he customers too provide ideas f or designing according to their particular requirement. T hese are in the f orm of painted artwork or f abric samples and sometimes f ilm negatives. T he textile designers, with the help of CAD, convert them into workable designs. For this to be done, the sample is scanned with the help of either scanners or digital cameras and then they are edited to obtain the f inal design. Computer systems used to design and manuf acture products. T he term CAD/CAM implies that an engineer canuse the system both f or designing a product and f or controlling manuf acturing processes CAD is broad term used to represent use of computer in designing. CAM is term that denotes the computerized control of manuf acturing process. Almost all industry sectors are using CAD in their designing departments. CAD can help to draw textile designs f or textile industry. We should not conf use CAD only with drawings. CAD covers many aspects of designing like design calculations, dataanalysis and simulations. Commonly used sof tware used f or CAD are AUT O CAD, MSVISIO, Smart Draw etc.
