GENERAL STRUCTURE OF P.G. PROGRAMMES Full-Time PG programmes comprise of 4 semesters (2 years) and Part-Time programme has 6 semesters (3 years). MODE OF STUDY
Full-Time
Candidates admitted under Full-Time should be available in the departments during working hours for the curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Candidates should not attend any other Full-Time programme(s) / course(s) or take up any FullTime job / Part-Time job in any institution or company during the period of the programme. Violation of the above rules will result in cancellation of admission.
Part-Time
Part-Time candidates will not be permitted to convert to Full-Time mode during the course of study. 1. CATEGORY OF INSTITUTIONS The Government of Tamil Nadu in G.O. (Rt) No. 41, Higher Education (J2) Department, dated 14.3.2012 have permitted Anna University, Chennai-25 as its nodal agency for the conduct of Tamil Nadu Common Admissions through single window counselling for M.E. / M.Tech. / M.Arch. / M.Plan. degree programmes offered at i. ii. University Departments / University Colleges. Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges. iii. Self-financing Engineering Colleges for the seats surrendered for admission through single window counselling.
2. ELIGIBILITY Candidates who have passed all the subjects in the recognised Bachelors degree or equivalent field and obtained at least 50 % (45 % in the case of candidates belonging to reserved categories) in the qualifying degree examination as per AICTE norms i. ii. iii. with TANCET 2012 score (or) with valid GATE 2012 score with qualifying marks prescribed for assistantship in the appropriate discipline of Engineering / Technology (or) with valid GATE 2012 score with qualifying marks prescribed for assistantship in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers along with TANCET 2012 score
shall be considered for admission to M.E. / M.Tech. / M.Arch. / M.Plan. degree programmes. Eligibility qualifications for admission to various M.E. / M.Tech. / M.Arch. / M.Plan. degree programmes are given in Annexure - I If a candidate claims that the educational qualification possessed by him / her (though not the same as prescribed eligible qualification) is equivalent to the eligible qualification prescribed in Annexure - I, he/she should have obtained the equivalency certificate from the Director, Academic Courses, Anna University, Chennai-25 on or before the last date for submission of the application. However, the claim would be subject to the decision of the admitting authority.

Candidates in the following categories may apply for admission: a. Candidates appeared for the final semester / year examination of the qualifying degree programmes during April / May 2012, except A.M.I.E. Candidates should produce an evidence for passing all the subjects in the qualifying degree examination at the time of counselling, otherwise the candidates will not be permitted to attend the counselling. Results copy downloaded from net is permitted only when it is attested by the Head of Department concerned / Controller of Examinations. Candidates with Section A & B certificates (e.g. A.M.I.E.) of the Institution of Engineers and other similar certificates of various professional bodies viz., Aeronautical Society of India etc., recognised by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India are considered to be equivalent to B.E./ B.Tech degree holders for admission to M.E./ M.Tech. degree programmes subject to the following conditions: 1. Two years regular full time Teaching experience / Industrial experience in the relevant field after passing all the subjects. An experience certificate has to be produced by the candidate. 2. Must have valid GATE 2012 score with qualifying marks prescribed for assistantship or TANCET 2012 score. Note: 1 2 3 4 Candidates admitted through lateral entry in degree courses are not eligible except, B.E./ B.Tech. degree courses. Candidates with B.E. / B.Tech. / M.C.A / M.Sc. degrees obtained through week end courses are not eligible. Candidates with B.E. / B.Tech. degrees obtained through Distance Education mode are not eligible. Candidates obtained degree without studying 10th and 12th std. or 3 years Diploma are not eligible.

3. NATIVITY a. Candidates who have studied continuously for the last 5 years (from XII Standard o nwards ) i n Tami l Nadu wi ll be considered as Tamil Nadu candidates. Candidates who are Native of Tamil Nadu but have studied XII or/ and Diploma, Degree outside Tamil Nadu have to produce the Nativity Certificate (vide Certificate No. I on page no. 38) obtained from the Tahsildar of their Native Taluk / District of Tamil Nadu for considering them as Tamil Nadu candidates.
b. Candidates belonging to Other States are eligible for Open Competition only. c. Candidates who are Sri Lankan Refugees and passed the recognised qualifying degree (with a minimum of 50 % marks) in Tamil Nadu will be considered for admission to M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. degree programmes as per rank, under Open Competition through Single Window Counselling. Sri Lankan Refugee candidates should enclose a copy of the identification certificate obtained from the Head Quarters Tahsildars and those who have not registered in Refugees Camps should enclose a copy of visa and passport vide G.O. MS. No. 143 HE (J2) Department, dated 14.6.2011 and G.O. MS. No. 159 HE (J2) Department, dated 4.7.2011. Candidates must have also appeared for TANCET 2012 conducted by Anna University.

GATE (Engineering Science (XE) / Life Science (XL) category : Candidates who have a valid GATE 2012 score with qualifying marks for assistantship in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers. Candidates under this category should have also appeared for TANCET - 2012 conducted by Anna University (the mark is calculated by considering both the GATE 2012 score and TANCET 2012 score in the ratio of 70:30). Non-GATE Category Candidates who have appeared for TANCET 2012 conducted by Anna University.
Sponsored Category (Admission only in University Departments of Anna University, Chennai 25). A limited number of seats (Full-Time / Day Part-time study) are available for the candidates employed and sponsored by the Government / Government Organisations / Government Aided Educational Institutions under sponsored category, at the University Departments of Anna University, Chennai-25 (College of Engineering Guindy, A.C. College of Technology, School of Architecture & Planning and Madras Institute of Technology Campuses) only. However, sponsored registered professional Architects with a minimum of five years professional experience will be considered for admission to M.Arch. degree programmes under Sponsored category at University Department of Anna University, School of Architecture and Planning Campus. All the candidates under sponsored category should have appeared for TANCET 2012 conducted by Anna University, Chennai 25.

In addition, the candidates admitted under sponsored category in the University Departments of Anna University, Chennai should satisfy the conditions given below. Sponsored Full-time Candidates should be deputed with full pay and allowances during the period of study. Candidates should have obtained atleast 50 % marks in aggregate in the qualifying degree examination. Candidates must have a minimum of two years full time experience in the relevant field of the programme to which admission is sought after passing the qualifying degree.
Sponsored Day Part-Time Candidates should have a minimum of one-year regular employment in time scale of pay (not on consolidated salary) after passing the qualifying examination. They should be working in the relevant field in which admission is sought. Candidates should have obtained atleast 50 % marks in aggregate in the qualifying degree examination. Classes will be held during day time only.
The details of filled-in applications for seats under sponsored category to be sent are given on the reverse side of the front cover page. 4.2 STIPEND (GATE category) GATE qualified candidates admitted under GATE (Engineering / Technology) (or) (Engineering Science-XE / Life Science-XL) category (other than those deputed / sponsored) shall be considered eligible for stipend funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, only if the marks secured are more than or equal to the qualifying marks in the category under which the candidate is admitted as detailed below. Tamil Nadu native candidates alone will be considered under BC / BCM / MBC & DNC / SC / SCA / ST categories.

5.
SELECTION PROCEDURE a. GATE category For GATE (Engineering / Technology) category, the merit list will be prepared based on the valid GATE 2012 qualifying marks prescribed for assistantship in the appropriate discipline of Engineering / Technology. For GATE (Engineering Science (XE) / Life Science (XL) category, the merit list will be prepared based on the valid GATE 2012 qualifying marks prescribed for assistantship in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers and TANCET 2012 score with a weightage of 70:30. A overall common merit list will be prepared for GATE (Engineering / Technology) and GATE (Engineering Science (XE) / Life Science (XL) category. A common merit list will be prepared for SC, SC (Arunthathiyars) and ST candidates under GATE category. b. NON-GATE category The merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in TANCET 2012. c. Sponsored category (Admission only in University Departments of Anna University, Chennai-25) The merit list will be prepared based on TANCET 2012 marks. Inter-se-merit: In case where more than one candidate have got the same marks obtained in TANCET 2012, while preparing merit list the candidates having higher average percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying degree examination will be given higher rank. The merit list will be published in the website of Anna University, Chennai 25.

Candidates seeking admission against ST/ SC/ SCA/ MBC & DNC/ BC/BCM (BC Muslim) quota should obtain the certificate of social status issued by the competent authority in the Permanent Community card format prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu and enclose an attested photocopy of the same along with the application. a) The applicants from Tamil Nadu State should have been obtained permanent community certificate card (for SC/SCA/ST/MBC & DNC, BC and BC Muslim candidates) only from the authorities given below on or before the last date prescribed for submission of filled-in application.

Community Certificate issued after the last date prescribed for submission of filled-in applications will not be considered. b) Community Certificate obtained from Other States will not be considered for communal reservation. c) For communities linked with districts (Refer Annexure II the information and instructions to candidates) the candidates should obtain their community certificate in their respective district. Community certificates obtained from other than their respective district will not be considered. However, the candidates who belong to BC, MBC and DNC communities in a particular district and migrated to other places in Tamil Nadu and obtained Community Certificates from competent authorities in the migrated district on or after 28.10.2009, will be considered. (as per G.O. (St) No.95 BC, MBC & Minorities Welfare Department, dated 28.10.2009). d) Candidates who have not enclosed an attested photocopy of the Permanent Community Card certificate at the time of submission of the application will be treated under Open Category (OC).

DIFFERENTLY ABLED PERSON CATEGORY Candidates seeking admission against the reservation set apart for Orthopaedically Differently Abled Persons / Hearing Impaired (Deaf) / Visually Impaired persons should produce the certificate obtained from the District Medical Board certifying the nature and extent of disability in percentage and with regard to the suitability for admission to Engineering Colleges mentioned below in Item No. 7.1. The Competent Authority to issue Disability Certificate shall be a District Medical Board duly constituted by the State Government. The District Medical Board shall consist of a minimum of three members (Chairman and two Members) out of which atleast one shall be a specialist in the Ortho / Optho / ENT depending on the disability. Certificate obtained from an individual doctor will not be considered. The Certificates should have been obtained prior to the last date for submission of filled-in application indicated in the notification. The medical certificate should be in the prescribed format given in Certificate No. II, III & IV. 3 % reservation for Differently Abled Persons is as follows: 1. 2. 3. Eligibility criteria for various disabilities a. Norms for Orthopaedic Disability Candidates with permanent physical impairment of 40 % and above are considered as disabled. The candidates with orthopaedic disability of the following types are eligible for claiming admission against Differently Abled Persons category (Certificate No. II on Page No. 39) (i) Independent in ambulance with or without calipers but without walking aids. (ii) Good standing balance without calipers but without any support. (iii) Hand Function with normal limit without any aid (iv) Good control over bladder & bowl (v) Disease must be non progressive

Norms for Hearing Disability Candidates with hearing ability of 40 db and above only in the better ear with speech discrimination score of 50 % and above are considered as disabled. (Certificate No. III on page no. 40)

Norms for Vision Impairment Candidates with low vision of 40 % and above are considered as disabled. (Certificate No. IV on page no. 41) Low Vision: Persons with low vision means a person with impairment of vision of less than 6/18 to 6/60 with best correction in the better eye or impairment of field in any one of the following categories: a) Reduction of fields less than 50 degrees. b) Heminaopia with macular involvement. c) Attitudinal defect involving lower fields categories of Visual Disability all with correction. COUNSELLING Candidates will be admitted through counselling only. More number of candidates than the actual number of seats available will be called for counselling. Candidates are advised to check the seats available in the website www.annauniv.edu/tanca2012. Admission will be offered depending upon the seats available based on the merit of the candidates who attend counselling as per the reservation norms of Govt. of Tamil Nadu and others cannot claim any right for admission. A candidate can get allotment for one programme only. Note : The number of seats/courses/branches available/not available mentioned in the Information about Colleges booklet are subject to change before the counselling.

GATE category candidates must appear for counselling with the original valid GATE 2012 score card (Additional card will not be accepted). Candidates without the original valid GATE 2012 score card will not be permitted to attend the counselling. If a seat is allotted under GATE category, the candidate has to submit the original valid GATE 2012 score card immediately after allotment of a seat. If unfilled seats if any under GATE category, will be converted to Non-GATE category in the respective communities. Candidates who have passed all the subjects of the qualifying degree with a minimum of 50 % marks for General category and 45% marks for reserved categories BC/BCM/MBC&DNC/SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu in the qualifying examination alone will be permitted to attend the counselling. Candidates rank and also the date of counselling will be informed individually through the counselling call letter by ordinary post.

The counselling schedule and the format of Intimation of Counselling containing details about counselling will be published in the website of Anna University, Chennai-25 http://www.annauniv.edu/tanca2012 before the commencement of counselling. Eligible candidates may appear for counselling according to their cut-off mark, two hours before the counselling session, irrespective of receipt of individual communication. Candidates who do not attend the counselling may have to forego the claim of admission. Counselling will be held at Anna University, Chennai-25. Candidates should attend the counselling at their own cost with all the original certificates. If a candidate has deposited all the certificates where he/she has already been admitted, a letter from the head of the institution should be produced to that effect. In such cases only, attested photocopies of certificates will be accepted (except GATE score card). However, the original allotment order will be withheld and it will be given after the verification of original certificates. No change of date / time of counselling is permissible. Authorities are not responsible for the postal delay or non receipt of counselling intimation. At the time of counselling the candidates have to pay ` 5,300/- (` 1,150/- for SC / SCA / ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) in the form of Demand Draft or Cash, which includes a nonrefundable fee of ` 300/-towards counselling fee (` 150/- for SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) and attend the counselling with all the original certificates. The Demand Draft should be drawn in favour of The Secretary, TANCA, Anna University payable at Chennai. Due to unforeseen and unavoidable reasons, if a candidate is unable to attend the counselling on the specified date and time he/she can 1. Authorise his/her parent on his/her behalf and the parents decision will be binding on the candidate. An authorisation letter given by the student must be submitted in this regard by the parents. Parents should also produce photo identity of any one, voter ID, driving licence, PAN card and passport. Attend on a subsequent time/date, during the counselling period. But the candidate can only opt for the seats available at the time of attending the counselling and cannot claim any seat as per the rank.

Once a seat is allotted, the amount of ` 5,000/- for general or ` 1,000/- for SC/SCA/ST candidates already paid at the time of counselling will be adjusted towards the tuition fee to be paid to the respective allotted college.
Applications for refund beyond 31.12.2012, will not be accepted and it will be summarily rejected.

For further correspondence 1) For GATE category, quote the Application Number. 2) For Non-GATE and Sponsored categories quote the TANCET 2012 Registration Number. Candidates are advised to post the completed application well in advance so as to reach Anna University, Chennai-25 on or before the specified date and time. Application may be sent by Registered post or Speed post to avoid any delay. The Secretary, Tamil Nadu Common Admissions will not be responsible for postal or any other delay. Applications received after the last date and time will be summarily rejected. Candidates who want to receive the counselling call letter by Registered post or Speed post must affix stamps covering Speed Post or Registered Post charges on the envelope meant for call letter for Counselling and mention By Registered Post or Speed Post on it. Candidates once allotted will be given the provisional allotment order and receipt for the initial payment. The candidates have to pay the remaining fees in the college concerned at the time of admission on the date specified in the allotment order. No further correspondence will be entertained on the matter pertaining to Admissions. All admissions made through the single window counselling are provisional. Counselling and admitting authorities reserve the right to accept or reject any application without assigning any reason.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT ADMISSION The information about admission is as follows. Separate application has to be filed for each category GATE - Engineering / Technology, GATE Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) / Non-GATE / Sponsored. Admission shall be made under sponsored category only for University Departments of Anna University, Chennai-25. Candidates must fill the application form and coding sheet carefully. Candidates other than GATE (Engineering / Technology) category must have appeared for TANCET 2012. Candidates must have eligible qualification for admission. Seats will be filled as per the reservation norms prescribed by the Government of Tamilnadu. Information like the courses offered, facilities etc., are available in the booklet containing Information about Colleges. Other details regarding scholarship, fee concession, hostel facilities etc., can be obtained from the Principal/Dean of the Institutions concerned. Selection of the college and branch of study is the sole responsibility of the candidate.
