Ten Ways to Detect False Prophets/Teachers in Our Midst

If ever Gods people needed to study and search for the Truth as if coming out from underneath an avalanche it is now! False prophets (oce seekers) and false teachers (prophets of Baal) are everywhere peddling their handbag of tricks seeking to lead the sheep astray. Plainly, the burden of this chapter [Jer. 30] is concerning the antitypical returning to the homeland. Though terrible the trouble may seem, yet the outcome of it is to be the same as in the type. Right now we may not appreciate this study [Jacobs time of trouble] as we ought to, but the time is soon coming in which we will dig as fast and as hard for it as we would to get out from under an avalanche. Those who have but little faith in the Word of God though, the study will not do them much good. Now is the time to start cultivating the faith we need to have then. Timely Greetings, Vol. 1, No. 47, p. 14 [brackets added] To aid the honest hearted seekers for Truth as it is found in the original Shepherds Rod message we have put together a list of ten (10) identifying markers or characteristics of false prophets and false teachers that we have observed as a trend over the years and serves as a useful guide to ag those who try to push their cunningly devised fables upon the unwary and uninitiated.

There is nothing that Satan fears so much as that the people of God shall clear the way by removing every hindrance, so that the Lord can pour out His Spirit upon a languishing church and an impenitent congregation. If Satan had his way, there would never be another awakening, great or small, to the end of time. But we are not ignorant of his devices. It is possible to resist his power. When the way is prepared for the Spirit of God, the blessing will come. Satan can no more hinder a shower of blessing from descending upon God's people than he can close the windows of heaven that rain cannot come upon the earth. Wicked men and devils cannot hinder the work of God, or shut out His presence from the assemblies of His people, if they will, with subdued, contrite hearts, confess and put away their sins, and in faith claim His promises. Every temptation, every opposing inuence, whether open or secret, may be successfully resisted, "not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts" (Zechariah 4:6) Selected Messages, Vol. 1, p. 124.2

1. They like to tell Brother Houte how to teach his message.

Whenever a person arises who wants to be a prophet or teaches things that are not found in the inspired writings of Ellen G. White and Victor T. Houte (the Spirit of Prophecy) they will inevitably fall into the ditch of private interpretation and end up telling the prophet(s) how to teach their message. This is especially prevalent today for those who argue that we need an inspired teacher today since Brother Houte is no longer living. "Prophecy must be fullled. The Lord says: 'Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.' Somebody is to come in the spirit and power of Elijah, and when he appears, men may say: 'You are too earnest, you do not interpret the Scriptures in the proper way. Let me tell you how to teach your message.'" -- "Testimonies to Ministers," pp. 475, 476. There are two main points to note in these quotations: (1) that the message and messenger here mentioned are the very last; (2) that they are to restore all things, (3) that there is danger for some to make fools of themselves by daring to tell him how to teach his message assuming to take God's place! 2. Not satised with the original SRod graphic art.

Example: When the original Shepherds Rod graphic art on the golden bowl vision from Zechariah chapter four was recently presented on Facebook (July 2013) plainly showing only six pipes (tubes) removing oil from the golden bowl many rose up and criticized Brother Houte s original work and either defended man altered counterfeits that have arisen since the death of Brother Houte in 1955. http://whyperish.org/2013/07/the-golden-bowl-revisted/

3. Not satised with the original SRod tract literature.

Example: Nearly every Davidian Association has been responsible for altering the original SRod message in one way or another. This includes from one extreme the complete remodeling of the message removing the name of the original author and giving a new names to the series of tracts (e.g., Florence Houte, M. J. Bingham, Wanda Blum, Ariel Dacutanan) to more subtle and less dramatic changes such as revised artwork, new typesetting, reformatting, compiling (e.g. Salem, Mt. Dale, and Waco Associations). Albeit some may have done their alterations in ignorance with the best of intentions at the time, but now that the importance of publishing the unaltered original SRod literature has come to the forefront and the means to do so are available are within everyones reach, then all of us are without excuse and will be held accountable unless we change our course of action. 4. Create new charts and diagrams that come up with new dates and time periods.

5. Engage in historical revisionism.

Historical revision is the process by which someone or some organization rewrites history to hide their questionable past or to justify their place in history. Examples: 1. Old records and accounts of crimes and persecutions that took place during the dark ages perpetuated by the Catholic church and the subsequent rise of the Protestant Reformation have largely disappeared in the major libraries of the world and been replaced by newer books in recent centuries written by Jesuit scholars who sanitize or altogether remove the great evils committed by the popes and priests and tend to shed a questionable light of the reformers. 2. The history of the infamous 1888 General Conference Session held in Minneapolis has been blurred and confused considerably starting around the 1930s when a number of church authors (Leroy Froom, A. V. Olsen, George Knight and many others) have published new books reinterpreting the historical outcome of this most important meeting to make it appear the church leaders who rejected the message later came around and repented and now today the church as a whole accepts and teaches the message of Christ and His righteousness. Of course the Rod tells us otherwise. 3. Every Davidian Association that has arisen since 1955 has their view of history with no two accounts in total agreement. Each is written so as to justify their position in the rise and progress of the SRod message, especially after the death of Brother Houte in 1955, a period of the enemies attempt to deliver a knock out blow through professed friends of the faith. The eorts that some ministries go to uplift their claim to be Gods storehouse today are remarkably long winded (http:// wavesheaf.org/history/). Yet despite all of this maze of confusing and conicting stories there emerges a true historical account of how God has preserved the Truth of the SRod message by researching recently publicized historical documents and looking to see who kept the publication of the original Rod literature (1930-54) alive while others were busy making up their man remodeled versions. 6. Do not encourage new converts to read and study the original SRod message for themselves, but lure them with their own man altered counterfeit literature, video presentations, conference calls, and/or web seminars.
Examples of this are all over the internet from chat rooms, Facebook pages, websites, web seminars, etc. Also another popular medium is via telephone conference calls. Some will simply try to talk their way into getting you to believe what they are saying without hardly providing a reference to back up what is being said.

7. Do not accept correction when their errors are pointed out from the Rod.
All one has to do to see this in action is to get involved in online chat or discussion on Facebook or Paltalk, etc. and dare to correct or oppose someone who is teaching error in the name of the Rod. Rather than acknowledge their faults most often some justication arises and if the aws in their argument are pointed out then the discussion degrades into an attack on the character of the reprover in a eort to divert from the topic at hand.

8. Create new type-antitypical relationships to justify their private opinions.

Example: The Bingham/Adair living those with theory. When asked where is the type for the living those with who, in addition to the 144,000, supposedly come nonlineal racial stock, i.e. gentiles from within the SDA church, a response has been given which claims that the mixed multitude that came out from Egypt with the Israelites are the type. However, the Rod in Answerer Book No. 2, p. 7 states that the reason the Israelites had to spend 40 years in the wilderness was to get rid of the unbelieving, unfaithful multitude in their midst. This plainly shows that the mixed multitude are not a type of any group of righteous saints in the end.

9. Do not publish nor promote the original SRod message.

How do I know that the great day of the Lord is almost here? -- I know it because the announcement of it is here already, and because the message of the marking that is foretold in Ezekiel's chapter nine, the work of the Judgment, is already making its way throughout the Adventist world. I know it also because the material for the glory that

follows immediately thereafter (the material that is to lighten the earth with the glory of the angel, the Loud Cry Rev. 18:1) is all ready and waiting. Timely Greetings Vol. 1, No. 5, p. 12

10. Engage in long tedious studies using a multitude of Rod and SOP quotes to justify their supposed prophetic calling.
There are dozens of examples of this all over the internet. We will pick just one for illustration purposes at the link listed below. Please notice how a ood of Rod references are used and reinterpreted to justify the claim of this man (Ariel Dacutanan) to be a present day prophet of God. Also notice the extensive use of charts and illustrations with new dates and time periods which supposedly conrm the calling of this ministry. This should cause red ags rise up all over.

Conclusion
We will close this study with the following counsels from inspiration that all should meditate upon and learn to apply wisely through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Pray without ceasing for the devil knows that his time is short and he is going about Davidia today seeking whom he may devour with his agents of deception. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will ee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers." John 10:1-5 "I was shown the necessity of those who believe that we are having the last message of mercy, being separate from those who are daily imbibing new errors. I saw that neither young nor old should attend their meetings; for it is wrong to thus encourage them while they teach error that is a deadly poison to the soul and teach for doctrines the commandments of men. The inuence of such gatherings is not good. If God has delivered us from such darkness and error, we should stand fast in the liberty wherewith He has set us free and rejoice in the truth. God is displeased with us when we go to listen to error, without being obliged to go; for unless He sends us to those meetings where error is forced home to the people by the power of the will, He will

not keep us. The angels cease their watchful care over us, and we are left to the buetings of the enemy, to be darkened and weakened by him and the power of his evil angels; and the light around us becomes contaminated with the darkness." Early Writings, p. 124
