Submitted May 9, 2002. All the species of amphibians and reptiles of Vietnam including new records and recently described species are listed in the checklist. At present the fauna of amphibians of Vietnam includes 147 species which divided into 35 genera and 9 families. Key words: Amphibia, Vietnam, checklist.

INTRODUCTION During the last decade interest in the fauna of ~ ~ d ~ and ~ vietnam h i ~ in particular, ~ , has been intensive. Bourret (1942) listed 78 species of Vietnamese amphibians; Nguyen and Ho (1996) indicated 82 species; and 1nge; et al. (1999)'en-erated 100 species. At present, Vietnam is known to have 147 species of amphibians divided into 35 genera and 9 families, plus several undescribed species. The checklist, Part I of the Herpetofauna of Vietnam, a checklist, summarizes the diversity of Vietnamese amphibians. Future lists will summarize the diversity of reptiles. Up to the age of two years the body of R. annarnensis is lightly colored with numerous black blotches, which corresponds to the description of the single specimen of Rhacophorus nolater. M. Matsui shares a similar opinion (University of Kyoto, Japan; personal communication). The transformation to the adult color pattern occurs approximately when SVL is 3 W 0 mm.
