PARADIGM OF THE STUDY The figure from the previous page illustrates the purposed in which the study is focused upon. The paradigm shows the vital areas such as the inclusion criteria which is essential in identifying the appropriate respondents in order for the study to be accurate and valid. Then the process of the study which focuses in determining the effect of prolonged computer use to the health of the respondents of the study. The last part of the paradigm focuses on the results of the study. The findings would be a great help to the researchers, to the future researchers and most importantly to the employees of the PHIC 02 where the said study was conducted. From the results of the study, the researchers will be able to identify the effects of prolonged computer use to the health of the said employees. This would help in determining possible solutions of the effects of prolonged computer exposure in order to prevent further injury and improve the working conditions and performance of the employees. And for the future researchers, this research will open and encourage their brilliant minds to conduct more studies in order to address the problems brought about by prolonged computer use.

DEFINITION OF TERMS Computer A programmable machine that executes a programmed list of instructions and responds to new instructions that it is given.

- A device that computes, especially a programmable electronic machine that performs highspeed mathematical or logical operations or that assembles, stores, correlates, or otherwise processes information.

Computer Vision Syndrome A variety of problems related to prolonged viewing of a computer screen. Short term effects include dry eyes, blurred vision, eye fatigue and excessive tearing. Long term effects include migraines, cataracts and visual epilepsy.

A complex eye and vision related problem associated with computer use. A temporary condition resulting from focusing the eyes on a computer display for protracted, uninterrupted periods of time

Ergonomics The applied science of equipment design, as for the workplace, intended to maximize productivity by reducing operator fatigue and discomfort.

A discipline focused on making products and tasks comfortable and efficient for the user. Science of fitting the work to the user instead of forcing the user to fit the work.

Regional musculoskeletal disorder (R-MSD) Denotes health problems of the locomotor apparatus, i.e. of muscles, tendons, the skeleton, cartilage, ligaments and nerves.

Happens when mechanical workload is higher than the load-bearing capacity of the components of the musculoskeletal system.

Includes all forms of ill-health ranging from light, transitory disorders to irreversible, disabling injuries.

Induced or aggravated by intensified work, house chores or sports.

Repetitive stress injury (RSI)

Is a catch-all terms used to refer to many painful conditions, such as trigger finger and nerve spasms. They cause stiffness, swelling, tingling, weakness, numbness and, in some cases, irreversible nerve damage. The term includes a group of disorders that most commonly develop in workers using excessive and repetitive motions of the head and neck extremity. When force is applied repeatedly to the same muscle group, joint, or tendon over a prolonged period.

Cumulative trauma disorder (CTD) Are injuries sustained through performance of repetitive tasks. Cumulative forces may cause soft tissue tears and trauma. The resulting injury may lead to ligament and tendon disorders, degenerative joint disease, bursitis, or nerve damage.

Affect bones, muscles, tendons, nerves and other anatomical features. It develops when micro traumas, or minute injuries, occur repeatedly from over use or misappropriate use of a body part or external force applied to the body. Occurs when the body part is called on to work harder, stretch farther, impact more directly or otherwise functions at a greater level then it is prepared for.
