It is estimated that 20,000 houses need to be rebuilt in the coastal region of Tamil Nadu. Construction needs to be completed before the onset of the approaching monsoon to avoid a secondary disaster. Design required that is simple, easily replicable, & adaptable to local conditions. Highly cost-effective permanent housing solution needed.

Tsunami Relief & Rehabilitation Innovative Housing Design

Isha Foundation has developed an innovative housing unit ideal for tsunami rehabilitation efforts. It includes: Semi-Cylindrical Concrete Shell 225 Sq. ft of Floor Space Fire Proof, Cyclone Proof, Tsunami Proof Extendable, Durable Quick Turn Out, Easily Replicable

Tsunami Relief & Rehabilitation Innovative Housing Design

Cost-effective Conforms to fishing activity needs
Can be set up proximal to the coast Fishermen practice beaching of boats, not docking Fishermen go out on to sea at various times dependent on sea conditions Moving inland would be disastrous to fishing community and would invariably open up optimal land for squatters
