The Man, the Brother, the Grand Master and the Most Puissant Sovereign Grand Commander
(Baltimore, MD) My reflections upon a GRAND MASTER among Grand Masters on the Path of "A"ncient "F"ree and "A"ccepted/ Acknowledged "M"asons. The first thing that stands out as unique to me in respect to Bro. G.M. or Pop as he was also called and which in turn he called us/me son, was the mutual and unbiased merging of two (2) Grand Masters and two (2) bona fide Paths, that of The Most Worshipful Luxor Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. and the other being The Ancient Arabic Islamic Order of the Lodge of Wisdom in the Occident (Dar al Hikmat/ the Lodge of Wisdom), Shaihk Qabil Abdul Mannan, Grand Master. I had never witnessed the labors of two (2) actual G.M.'s, let alone never thought I would be on two (2) Paths at the December 6, 1933 - June 1, 2013 same time. The harmony, brotherhood and understanding that was exhibited, demonstrated and actualized was something to be only wondered upon, to be told of or read about and surely one would not see and experience such marvels in one's own lifetime.

As with the uninitiated and the initiated alike neither accepted the real validity of the Craft nor the inherent Power and Wisdom in and of the Master's Word, but in G.M. Hazel neither was perceived and was certainly not the case. In the thirty (30) years of my association with Bro. Hazel, the more Light gained the more Light received and increased and my earnest laborious cravings only intensified until I became a Master in my own right as being made a Perfect Ashlar at the behest of my mentor, spiritual father on another level, instructor, Brother and Friend. Truly in my world G.M. Hazel was also a historian, author and most of all a no nonsense Builder and someone worthy enough to refining base stones, pebbles, etc. into something/someone that could stand and weather the test of time. I remember one day as the G. M. had a host of brothers about him as he was giving instructions on some matter (of which I have forgotten) what stuck with me over the years was him explaining to me, "There's a time to be seen and there's a time to be seen and heard Brother Jenkins!" That was because what he was discussing, he noticed that I wanted or needed to speak - to share my mind and I didn't. It was a pleasure as well as an honor to have learned and progressed along the Masonic Path by way of G.M. Hazel. The command, the separation, the unity, the knowledge, the wisdom, the understanding, his insight relative to the degrees, the various Houses and the numerous levels of Masonry and other Rites is unparalleled still to this day. No matter how much I knew or thought I knew he knew more and shared that knowledge with me freely. It was under Dr. Hazel that I learned and internalized the true & actual concept(s) and precept(s) of the "silent tongue" and "the faithful breast." In addition, I learned the value of the "watchful eye" and the "attentive or listening ear." In fact, everything Masonic took on a different and more real significance after being touched by G. M. Hazel and his wisdom!!! What can I say for the man, a man and Brother who was in part the reason for who I am today!
