FR. ADRIANS CORNER

Where does Jesus send us? There are no borders, no limits; he sends us to everyone. The Gospel is for everyone, not just for some. It is not only for those who seem closer to us, more recep ve, more welcoming. It is for everyone. Do not be afraid to go and to bring Christ into every area of life, to the fringes of society, even to those who seem farthest away, most indierent. The Lord seeks all; he wants everyone to feel the warmth of his mercy and his love. These were among the nal words spoken by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, to the millions of young men and women gathered on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro last weekend on World Youth Day 2013. He asked the young people to be missionaries of Gods love and mercy, to have courage and not to be afraid. His words are addressed also to us who stayed home, to the young and the not so young. The Pope concluded: God calls you to make deni ve choices, and He has a plan for each of you. Some, he said, are called to marriage. Although many people consider marriage unfashionable, the Pope asked the young people to be revolu onaries, to swim against the de. Yes, he con nued, I am asking you to rebel against this culture that sees everything as temporary and that ul mately believes that you are incapable of responsibility, that you are incapable of true love. I have condence in you and I pray for you. Have the courage to swim against the de. Have the courage to be happy. The Lord calls some to be priests, to give themselves to him more fully, so as to love all people with the heart of the Good Shepherd. Some he calls to the service of others in the religious life: devo ng themselves in monasteries to praying for the good of the world, and in various areas of the apostolate, giving of themselves for the sake of all, especially those most in need. I will never forget that day, 21 September I was 17 years old when, a er stopping in the Church of San Jos de Flores to go to confession, I rst heard God calling me. Do not be afraid of what God asks of you! It is worth saying yes to God. In him we nd joy! Dear young people, some of you may not yet know what you will do with your lives. Ask the Lord, and he will show you the way. The young Samuel kept hearing the voice of the Lord who was calling him, but he did not understand or know what to say, yet with the help of the priest Eli, in the end he answered: Speak, Lord, for I am listening (cf. 1 Sam 3:1-10). You too can ask the Lord: What do you want me to do? What path am I to follow? Dear friends, I thank you once more for all you have done during these days. Do not forget what you have experienced here! You can always count on my prayers, and I know I can count on yours. Steubenville-San Diego at USD saw ve and a half thousand teens and young adults gather for a weekend of prayer and teaching last weekend. We had eighteen a ending from the parish, including some adult leaders. It was a joyous and

moving three days and the Spirit moved in the hearts of these young men and women. I want to thank, on your behalf, all the leaders who accompanied our young people and who con nue to give so generously of their me. Our new Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Ma Franklin, has joined the sta at San Luis Rey Parish and we welcome him with open arms. Ma comes to us from San Francisco Solano Parish in Santa Margarita, Orange County, where he was Director of Youth for eight years. We wish Ma many happy years with us and blessings on his work with youth and young adults in our community. On Thursday we welcomed home our pilgrims from Brazil with lots of emo on and joy at the San Diego Airport. Fr. Luis and his fellow-pilgrims were red a er a long journey, but there was no mistaking the happiness on their faces as we embraced them and welcomed them home. It has been a profound experience for all our parishioners who spent ten days with fellow Catholics from all over the world, and to hear the upli ing messages of Pope Francis. Once again, thank you for your prayers and support of our young people and their adult mentors, and we express our gra tude to all who made World Youth Day in Rio possible. We are truly blessed to belong to a community of faith and love at San Luis Rey. Finally, a warm welcome to our visitors! If you are reading this and were with us today at Mass we welcome and embrace you as our sister and brother, and in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, we wish you peace. May you have a blessed week.

Finalmente, Una calurosa bienvenida a nuestros visitantes!
