found dead under
mysterious
circumstances
A n air hostess with Air India was found
dead under mysterious circumstances
inside her house in J.J. Nagar near
Mogappair on Saturday night.
J.J. Nagar police said the deceased Neethu
Kumari (25), a native of Bihar, was
residing at a rented house in Papanna
Venkat Rao Street, Golden George Nagar,
in J.J. Nagar. The incident came to light
after Bhaskar, the house owner, realised a
foul smell emanating from Neethu’s house
on Saturday night and thereafter informed
the police.
Police reached the spot around 11.30 p.m.
and broke open the door to find the
decomposed body of Neethu on the bed.
“We suspect it to be a case of suicide by
consuming poison but it can be
ascertained only after the post mortem
report comes in. However, there was no
suicide note found in the woman’s room,”
said K. Sridhar Babu, Assistant
Commissioner of Police, Thirumangalam.
Following preliminary police investigations
the body was sent for an autopsy to

Police added that Neethu might have
taken the extreme step on Wednesday
night after returning from work. An
investigation is also on to ascertain if it
was a case of a well-orchestrated murder.

hassle of standing in queue to re-
turn or borrow books, so he can
attend to other requirements of
customers.

seem to have accepted the tech-
nology without much commo-
tion.
With around 9,000 members,
comprising both individuals and

Installing the two RFID kiosks
comes as a boon for those

needs to do is place the book to
be borrowed or returned (any
number) along with the RFID
card on the machine. The kiosk
requests the user to follow some
basic instructions – renewal, bor-
row or return. An acknowledg-
ment slip is generated giving
details of the ‘book issued’ and
‘date of return’. One can also
check their account status or
whether there are any pending
charges on these kiosks.
Well, that’s not over. It has also
installed a drop box at the check-
books.
According to R. Muralidharan,
manager - young audiences, BC,
the work towards the RFID tech-
nology started a year ago. “We
started issuing the RFID cards to
all the members since Novem-
ber,” he says.
The technology was piloted in
the Delhi and Chennai libraries of
the British Council, and in the
city it probably is the first to im-
plement such a technology.

But his greatness and
place in footballing histo-
ry should not just be
marked by victories. He
has always been an ex-
ample to all, in his man-

off-field demeanour. For an Italian
football star he has also been an
exception for the lack of tantrums,
fits and controversy following him
around. That’s perhaps less surpris-
ing given that he played his whole
career in defence, initially, and lar-
gely, as a left-back but also increas-
ingly in recent years in the centre.
In fact it was in the centre of the
back-line that he gave perhaps his
most accomplished and important
performance of all, in the 1994 Eu-
ropean Cup final.
In that Milan were missing both
their first choice centre-halves
through suspension but Maldini
filled in admirably and while the
game is remembered mostly for
Milan’s swashbuckling attacking
display that swept them to a stun-
ning 4-0 victory, it was on the
foundation of a formidable defen-
sive effort.
Praise from rivals
Maldini kept the dream attack-
ing line-up of Romario and Hristo
Stoichkov quiet throughout the
evening and Milan shocked the
footballing world. But perhaps his
greatest achievement was in fact
the lack of animosity shown to
him. Even Inter Milan’s fans, the
most likely to hate Maldini, were
moved to pay homage to him dur-
ing the last, and Maldini’s last ever,
Milan derby. “That was a wonder-
ful surprise. On a human level I
think that was one of the most sat-
isfying experiences I’ve ever had,”
he said of the incident.
Maldini’s impact will possibly on-
ly be felt at its most once he has
left and his team-mates will cer-
tainly sense his absence greatly.
“The thing that has always im-
pressed me about Paolo is that af-
ter every goal, no matter where he
is on the pitch, he always runs over
to celebrate with the scorer. With-
out fail, I think that’s great,” said
Brazilian Kaka.
Sunday probably wasn’t Maldi-
ni’s last game as he will make his
farewell at Fiorentina a week later.
But Sunday was the day when his
own fans – 80,000 strong – got the
chance to say goodbye and thank
you.
Because Maldini is sure that he
will never come back as a coach.
“I’m going to have a long holiday,
until September and then I don’t
know but one thing is for sure, I’ll
never be a coach,” he said. ■
