1. The annual main examinations for students admitted under Calendar Year Stream (Enrolment number starting with alphabet C) are conducted at the end of the Calendar Year, i.e., November every year. The supplementary examinations for this batch of students will be conducted during May every year. The annual main examinations for students admitted under Academic Year Stream (Enrolement number starting with alphabet A) are conducted at the end of the Academic Year, i.e., May every year. The supplementary examinations for this batch of students will be conducted during November every year. Before filling the application, please read carefully the instructions furnished in this application as well as Instructions to Candidates. Rejection of Application : Application form received without ENROLMENT Number as per IDE-Identity Card / Correct Subject Codes / Name of Exam. Centre & Code / Prescribed Examination Fees / Signature of the Candidate or with false details will be rejected at any time and such candidates could not put forth any claim over that on a later stage. The Examination application submitted during Feb / March will be considered only for the subsequent May / June examinations. Similarly applications submitted during Sep / Oct will be considered only for the Nov / Dec. examinations. II. No Refund of Fees : Applications once received from the candidates for the current Examination shall not be used for the subsequent examinations and the fees, if any, paid by the candidate shall not be refunded in any manner or carried over or adjusted for any subsequent future Examinations or for any other purposes under any circumstances. III. Payment of Tuition Fees : Tuition Fees should not be remitted along with the Examination Fees under any circumstances. IV. Not Eligible Candidates : Candidates who have arrears of Tuition fees etc. and those who are not eligible on some other reasons (i.e. Candidates disqualified by the IDE or Booked under Malpractice, etc.) are strictly advised not to apply for the Examination otherwise the Examination taken by them will be summarily cancelled. V. Intimation for Exam. Centre / Exam. Time-table / Hall-Ticket : If Intimation on Examination Centre and Time-table are not received by the candidates in time, the same may be collected from the Leading News Paper Notifications as well as from the IDE Web-site www.ideunom.ac.in well in advance. Accordingly, Hall-ticket should be collected from the Chief Superintendent of the respective Examination Centre alone by the Candidate during three working days before commencement of the First Day of the May/November Examinations by producing Identity Card issued by the Director, IDE without fail. No candidate is allowed to write the IDE Examinations wilhout Identity Card issued by the IDE. No other Identity Card will be entertained on any account for appearing IDE Examinations. VI. Practical and Project will not be conducted on any account during Supplementary Examinations. VII. Arrear Subjects under Old Regulations : Candidates are advised to take their Examinations for arrear papers if any under Old Regulations, by choosing the equivalent papers under the existing syllabus ONLY which are available in the Office of the Addl. Controller of Exams, IDE, failing which their results shall not be declared and no claim will be entertained. INSTRUCTION TO CANDIDATES
01. Application Form / Examination Time-Table / Examination Centre Notification / Publication of Results - will be made available in the university Web-site : www.ideunom.ac.in as and when they are ready. A copy of the Examination Time-Table and the Examination Centre Notification will be sent to the candidates individually by Ordinary Post. However, those candidates who are not in receipt of the same by post, may collect the information from the Web-site as well as from the leading Newspaper Notification. 02. Examination Centres : Candidates shall choose any one of the following Examination Centres to appear for the IDE Examinations. Each Examination Centre is given with a Centre Code. Enter the correct Centre Code and Name of the Examination Centre legibly in the columns provided therefor in the application. The Institute reserves all rights to change any of the Examination Centres at its discretion. In such cases, candidates will be intimated in advance.

03. Change of Examination Centres : Candidates who desires to change their Examination Centre on valid reasons should make their request one month before the commencement of I.D.E. Examinations on payment of prescribed fee of Rs.100/04. Medium : Candidates shall appear for PG Degree Examination as per the Medium of Instructions given in their Admission Prospectus. 05. Candidates appearing for the first time either for First year or Second year should pay the fees for all the papers prescribed. Candidates shall be permitted for paper-wise registration in the subsequent examinations to qualify for the degree. 06. Examination fees. (Tuition fees should not be remitted along with Exam. Fees under any circumstances.) 07. Additional Fees for choosing Examination Centres Located Outside Tamil Nadu: Candidates who wish to appear for the Examinations in the following Examination Centres located outside Tamil Nadu should pay an Additional Fees also as noted below : Bangalore, Cochin, Hyderabad, Kakinada, Kolkatta, Mumbai, Nellore, Patna, Rs.250/- for each appearance Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupathi, Trissur, Vijayawada, Vishakapatnam, Warrangal Delhi, Port Blair, Shillong, Sikkim Rs.300/- for each appearance Baharain, Doha Qatar, Dubai, Singapore, Srilanka - Candidates should forward their Fillcd-in Applications through Study Centre alone 08. Mode of Payment: All Payment of Fees shall be made by way of THREE Part CHALLAN in any one of the designated Bank WITHOUT ANY SERV1CE CHARGE (IDE Copy of the Challan should be submitted) or Account Payee Demand Draft, drawn from any one of the scheduled banks (payable in the city of Chennai) in favour of the Director, Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras, Chennai -600 005. The name and place of the Bank, Demand Draft Number, Date of Payment and the Amount, should be mentioned in the Application Form. The Enrolment Number and Name of Candidate should be mentioned on the backside of the D.D. while submitting along with the Application Form. 09. Blind Candidates are exempted from remitting the Examination fees, as per G.O. Blind Candidates shall be permitted on prior permission from the Additional Controller of Examinations, IDE to appoint a Scribe (other than the Subject holder) to write their Examinations. The remuneration for the Scribe has to be borne only by the Blind candidate. 10. Conduct of Examinations : PG Degree Examinations shall be conducted twice a year. Main Examinations are likely to be held during the month of May and Supplementary Examinations are likely to be held during the month of November every year. 11. Submission of Examination Application Forms : Candidates should submit the application form for May Examination (Main) during the month of February / March and for November Examination (Supplementary) during the month of September / October every year.

12. Conduct of Practical Examinations and Project : Practical Examination and Project will not be conducted during Supplementary Examinations on any account. Practical Examinations will be conducted only at the end of Practical Classes each year only at the PCP Centre for those who have earned the attendance and progress by completing the record note books. Candidates will not be permitted to do Practical Examination or Project directly without submitting prescribed Examination Application Form for Main / Current Examination conducted during May / June with prescribed fees. Otherwise the marks secured by the candidate will not be taken into account. Candidates are instructed to contact the Director, I.D.E. for further details. 13. Malpractice Cases : Candidates who were alleged malpractice at the previous examinations shall be permitted to appear for the subsequent / current examinations at their own risk pending decision.

14. Cancellation of Admission : Candidates whose admissions were cancelled by the Director, I.D.E., should not apply for the examination under any circumstances. Such candidates will be allowed to appear for the examination only on production of Re-admission Intimation obtained from the Director, IDE. If they failed to do so, the examination/s taken by them will be summarily cancelled. 15. Exam. Absentees & Failed Candidates : Candidates who are unable to appear for the Examination or failed in any of the papers during course of study or after completion of the course of study may appear for such papers in the subsequent examinations to qualify for the PG Degree. 16. Arrear Papers under Old Regulations : Candidates admitted into the courses of - M.A. Economics from 1983-84 to 1991-92; M.A.English from 1983-84 to 1998-99 ; M.A. History from 1983-84 to 1995-96 ; M.A. Political Science / Public Administration from 1983-84 to 1996-97; M.A. Tamil from 1983-84 to 1998-1999,, and M.Com. from 1983-84 to 2000-2001 should take their Examinations for arrear papers if any, by choosing the correct equivalent papers under the existing syllabus ONLY which arc available in the Office of the Addl. Controller of Exams, IDE, failing which their results shall not be declared and no claim will be entertained. 17. Improvement of Previous Performance : Candidates qualified for PG Degree can apply for improvement of their previous performance by appearing for examination in any of the paper/s within the very next THREE subsequent appearances only after the completion of the course of Study with a prescribed Exam, fee of Rs.500/- per paper for each appearance. All other candidates who have already qualified for the M.A./ M.Sc./M.Com. Degree shall be permitted to appear for Examination :n any of the paper/s so as to improve their previous performance with Penal Fee of Rs.5000/- for every attempt along with the prescribed Examination fee of Rs.500/-per paper for each appearance, 18. LAST DATE for submission of filled-in Application Forms : It is notified on the top of the Application Form. No application will be entertained under any circumstances after the Last Date. Filled-in Application is to be forwaided to the Director, Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras, I.D.E., Building, Chepauk, Chennai - 600 005 by Registered Post with Acknowledgement Due together with Account Payee Demand Draft or IDE copy of Bank Challan ; (ii) Address Slips (written neatly) The candidates are advised to keep Xerox Copies of all the fees payment details for their future reference. 19. Exemption Orders : If the candidate has been granted any exemption from appearing any paper/s he/she should give full particular/s in the relevants column and also enclose a Xerox Copy of the Exemption Order received from the Director, IDE, in this regard. 20. Hall-Tickets : As per the Examination Centre Notification, candidates should collect their Hall-Tickets for the Examination from the Chief Superintendent of the respective Examination Centre alloted to him / her during three working days before the commencement of the first day of the examination by producing his/her Identity Card issued by the IDE. Hall-Ticket will not be sent to the candidates address under any circumstances. 21. Hall-Ticket Corrections : Any discrepancies found in the Hall Ticket regarding Enrolment No. / Subject Code /Name etc. should be brought immediately to the notice of the Additional Controller of Examinations, IDE for further action. 22. If Hall-Ticket is not found in the Exam. Centre or the eligible Subjects omitted in the Hall-Tickets for the current Examination, candidates can appear for their Examinations under Rule-8, provided the candidates produce proof of evidence for the fees payment details together with the Identity Card issued by the IDE, before the respective Chief Supdt., IDE Exam. Centre. 23. Duplicate Hall-Ticket : The Hall-Ticket should be preserved safely by the candidate until he/she completes the whole examination and should be produced along with his/her Identity Card on each and every session of the examination. No Candidate will be allowed to write the examination without the Identity Card issued by the Director, IDE. No other Identity Card will be entertained for the purpose. Candidates can apply for a Duplicate copy of the Hall-Ticket / Identity Card in the event of loss in transit by remitting the prescribed fee of Rs. IOO/- before the commencement of the Examination. 24. No Refund of Fees : Examination fee once paid for the current Examination will not be refunded in any manner or adjusted for the subsequent future examinations or for any other purposes under any circumstances. Fees paid by the candidates for ineligible requirements, also will not be refunded in any manner. 25. Presence in the Examination Hall : No incriminating materials can be carried inside the Examination Hall. Candidates are expected to be in their seats 10 minutes before the Commencement of the Examination. The Enrolment Number (as per Identity Card issued by the IDE)/Subject/ Subject Code / Date of Examination should be written legibly by the candidates in the appropriate place provided in the Main Answer Book. The Enrolment Number should not be written in any of the inner pages of Main / Additional Answer Scripts on any account. Result will not be declared in case of any deficiency found in the Answer Scripts and they cannot put forth any claim over that on a later stage. 26. Statement of Marks : After publication of results, the Statement of Marks will be sent to the candidates residential address by Registered Post / Speed Post. Candidates should make necessary arrangements to receive the same by giving necessary authorization, if they could not be available in their residence during the time of postal delivery. 27. Results Withheld Cases : The Results and the Statement of Marks of the Candidates who have arrears of Tuition Fee / Exam Fee etc., will be withheld. Such candidates should contact the Additional Controller of Examinations, IDE for further details. 28. Revaluation & Re-totaling : There is no provision in the l.D.E. for Re-totaling of papers for the PG Degree Examination. Application for Direct Revaluation of answer paper should be submitted to the institute within 15 days from the date of publication of results. The fees prescribed for Revaluation is Rs.750/-. The requisition together with fees for revaluation received after the due date and the fees paid by the NOT Eligible Candidates will not be entertained. The fees once paid for the purpose will not be refunded in any manner under any circumstances. 29. Discrepancies in the Publication of Results / Statement of Marks : Queries on the Publication of Results or any discrepancies including Marks NOT AVAILABLE cases found in the Statement of Marks for the current Examination should be brought to the notice of the Additional Controller of Examinations, IDE., within a months time from the date of publications of results since the IDE will preserve the answer scripts of the current Examination for a maximum period of Three months only. No queries will be entertained from the candidate after the stipulated period under any circumstances. 30. Last Date of Examination Certificate : It will be issued to the qualified candidates only on receipt of request with prescribed payment of Rs.200/-. 31. Duplicate Statement of Marks : Candidates may apply for a duplicate copy of the Statement of Marks by paying the prescribed fee : Rs. 100/- upto Five Years; Rs.200/- for more than Five Years but upto 10 years; and Rs.250/- for others. 32. Consolidated Statement of Marks - Candidates who have completed Two year PG Course without any Break of Study in the IDE and qualified for PG Degree with Computerized Marks Statements are ONLY are eligible to apply for Consolidated Mark Statement by paying the prescribed fee (Rs.200/- for each appearance or a maximum fee of Rs.1000/-, if the appearances exceed more than FIVE).

The Practical Examination wherever prescribed will be conducted only at the end of the Practical Classes at the PCP Centres for those who have earned necessary attendance and made required progress by completing the record note books. Such other candidates are advised to contact the Director, Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras, for further details. It will not be conducted during Supplementary Examinations. The Project Classes are conducted for three days. The attendance is compulsory for Project Classes for the purpose of eligibility for submitting the Project Report. Those who have not attended the classes for Project Guidance are not eligible for submitting the Project Report. It will not be conducted during Supplementary Examinations.
