Measurement and Evaluation strategies

The methods that we will use for this class are through readings, assignments and projects. Also, the Blackboard environment will assist in learning about how the students are attending the class (logins).

Brief Overview of Active Learning Strategies

Since this is an online class I have attempted to find some innovative ways to engage the students in the class in the online format. Here are the strategies and how they would create an active learning environment. Collaborative project- Game Design I would like the students to work in small groups to create basic designs of a small game. Each of the groups will be given a short concept by the instructor and then the students will create a game design from this concept. In the online learning format this collaboration would exist with in Blackboard, Wikis, and chats. All the collaboration must happen within the Blackboard environment so it can later be share with other students in the class and so I can monitor their progress. This kind of learning would assist the student in making in their class work more interactive and peer-related associations. Discussion Board for readings Each week during the semester I assign a reading from the class text Rules of Play by Katie Salen and Eric Zimmerman. To create better interaction I use the following rubric. -From Blackboard Class Game Design Concepts Fall 2010
Each week, I would like you to write three posts on the class discussion board. These posts will be about different parts of that week's reading. Each week I will assign either specific questions or allow you to give your views on the board. Also, you will be asked to write three responses to other students posts. Each post should be at least 50 words and give some insightful comment on the post. I do reserve the right to reject each post if it does not pertain to the material. Please keep this in mind while forming your comments. Your grade for this part of the class will be pass/fail. This means that you should write good posts that pertain to the subject. They also should be clearly understood. I think this should be a fun way for us to collaborate and communicate our ideas to each other and if you feel the urge to write more post and comments feel free!!
