Conclusion

Through my analysis the basic components are similar. They both have a writer, reader, and purpose. They also both serve a purpose that deals with education or for example in the college genre study, whose purpose is to reach higher education. The differences in my two analysis papers is that the personal statement analysis is when you have already reached the end of your high school career and you are writing to your future college or university. The FRQ prompt is in the midst of your high school career which ultimately helps you reach your college dreams if you do well in the class. The recurrent purpose of my college genre personal statement was the interest in higher education and the reasons for wanting to attend UNC Charlotte. In my high school genre FRQ prompt one recurrent purpose was to understand if the students in the class could apply what they learned to a real world scenario. Another recurrent purpose was to use the terms given to answer the question the author posed. I feel like my college genre personal statement still exists because it always has, and because it has, Im sure it will always be a part of the college admittance process. It is almost like tradition to have a college essay or personal statement admitted with your college application. My high school genre FRQ prompt still exists because the teacher of

the course must feel as though these short answer/ essay questions help her students do well on the AP exam at the end of the year. It may also still exist because the teacher can see how these questions help her students understand the test material. If the teacher uses the FRQs as a teaching tool, she can see where her students are struggling and can then take action to help them better understand the material in order to be successful in the class and on the AP exam. Certain rules and routine practices are used for both of these genres. Since most colleges or universities require either a personal statement or essay questions, the routine practice for the students would be to write whichever the institution requests, as seen in my college genre personal statement. In this situation the college or university would decide the rules and regulations because its their choice on how to receive applications and what information they want on that application. In my high school genre FRQ prompt, the instructor of the class has full range of how he or she wants the questions to be worded and graded. I know at my school the principle and all the teachers that taught a specific subject decided together as a whole on how they would grade, what days they would test, etc. For those that that write for both of these genres, I would suggest making sure the author is able to get his or hers purpose across to the intended audience. I would also suggest if the genre is a prompt, for it to be understandable and relatable because this makes it easier for the reader to respond to the topic. These genres do not really tell me a lot about college or high school, and since these genres tell me so little about high school and college I cannot glean many similarities or differences.
