Glenfield Junction
NSW RAC commissioned GHD to prepare a master plan for Glenfield Junction. The master plan included junction layout plans allowing for additional services such as a proposed high speed rail and the new line to Leppington. The project involved detailed analysis of current and future predicted service operating plans for AM and PM peak periods.

Fourth generation train seats
Project management and design of mechanical and structural components for the seats of Sydneys 200 new electric trains is being undertaken by GHD, in conjunction with the firm Design and Industry. Trains are due for delivery in 2002.

Bayside Trains bogie maintenance

GHD reviewed the maintenance of the bogies of two types of rail cars for Bayside Trains, a Melbourne suburban rail system. Using our risk-centred maintenance analysis, GHD recommended major changes to the content and frequency of the maintenance program.

Developing Sustainable Communities, Liverpool

For Liverpool City Council in Sydney, GHD planned three new release areas with transit-oriented urban form and transport corridors, including provision for future rail alignment.

Strategic review of asset management planning
GHD provided a strategic review of the process for the development of the Rail Access Corporation (RAC) Freight Division's asset management plans (AMPs).

Dapto to Kiama electrification

GHD, in association with Halcrow Rail, carried out the detailed design of all works to extend the NSW electric train service south of Wollongong, from Dapto to Kiama a distance of 24 kilometres. The commission covered environmental studies and the detailed design of all infrastructure.

Olympics 2000 infrastructure

GHD was commissioned by the Olympic Coordination Authority to manage this complex and demanding project of $400 million of works including road and rail infrastructure at Olympic Park.

New Southern Railway

The project provided a dual track rail link from central Sydney to the domestic and international airport facilities at Mascot and the East Hills line. GHD provided concept design and construction services.

NSW Rail Improvement Program

The NSW Co-ordinator General, Rail, appointed GHD to provide assistance to review aspects of the SRA network in preparation for the Sydney Olympics. This review included audit of maintenance procedures and emergency response planning and also provided program implementation management.

Main line electrification, Queensland

GHD provided design for the electrification of 590 km of existing railway, enabling electrification at 25 kV, 50 hertz single phase AC, with an overhead catenary system and pantograph current collection. Signalling design provided fully immunised centralised traffic control. Communications used fibre-optics in parallel with a standby trunk system. Lineside and station voice communication facilities were also provided, along with supervisory, control and data acquisition systems.

Sydney Light Rail, Pyrmont
GHD provided and project managed the detailed design and documentation of the fixed infrastructure. In 1994 GHD was a member of the Pyrmont Light Rail Consortium, awarded a $64 million contract to build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) a modern light rail system between Ultimo and Pyrmont. GHD also provided project management and engineering services for extension to Lilyfield.

Train radio system

GHD provided project management services for the $60 million NSW train radio system. The system allows secure and private communications to improve reliability and on-time running; improve operational efficiency and customer service information; and reduce operating risks and costs.
