Are you looking to take a Gap Year? Are you thinking about full time Christian Ministry? Do you want to develop your gifts and ministry?
f so then Kairos could be for you. Kairos is a Gap Year opportunity run under the umbrella of Tunbridge Wells Fellowship of Evangelicals. It is for anyone aged 18 or over who is serious about pursuing God and his calling on their lives. Kairos is a Greek word for Time. It doesnt just refer to the time of day but a significant moment in time. We believe that the Kairos Gap year is just that for those who take part. The Year is divided into three components: Component 1: Training Day One day per week is devoted to training. The curriculum is divided between theological training in the mornings and practical ministry training in the afternoons. The theological training is intended to deepen both your knowledge and experience of God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The practical training is devised to equip you with the skills required to work in church based ministry. Some of the subjects include, The Nature and Character of God, The Father Heart of God, The Kingdom of God, Prophecy, The Cross and Resurrection, Mission and the Work of the Holy Spirit. The practical course includes Leading Small Groups, Teaching and Preaching, Schools Work and Leadership Skills. As well as the lectures there is also plenty of opportunity for group bible study and worship. We also try and facilitate day trips to see and experience different ministries, for example Prison Work. The training component also has a reading list. For anyone interested in the training component but not able to work with their church there is also the option to just take part in the training day. Component 2: Church Placement The majority of time is spent in your church placement. The nature of this needs to be discussed with your church leaders but we anticipate this being an opportunity for you to try new things, develop your gifts, step up in terms of leadership and also to be available to serve your church in whatever ways are appropriate. Past students have been heavily involved in youth and childrens work, schools work, worship, leadership as well as administration and chair stacking! They have been a hugely valuable resource to their church. If for whatever reason you are unable to be placed at your home church this need not be a problem. It may be possible for you to be hosted elsewhere. Component 3: Overseas Mission We hope Kairos will move you out of your comfort zone to increase your dependence on God. If the training day and church placement havent done this the overseas mission

will! Previous groups have been to Tanzania, Botswana, Peru and South Africa (hence the photos!) The idea of the trip is to increase your global awareness, to give you a taste of overseas mission and to stretch you as an individual and as a group. Those taking part in the mission trip would say it isnt always a comfortable experience but it is a valuable one! Kairos is hosted by Jennie Worthley and overseen by Chris Wicks. Jennie is the course administrator, and Chris is the vicar of St Matthews. Breakdown of Costs Obviously to run a gap year like this costs money. Below is a break-down of the cost of the year both to the student and the host church. Cost to Student: Training Day Fees 400 Overseas Mission 1500 Cost to Church: Weekly allowance to the student 40 (Approximately 2000 per year) Those having taken part in Kairos previously consistently testify to the value it has been in their lives. If you are interested please do get in touch. You can contact Kairos either by emailing Jennie Worthley at kairos@stmattschurch.org.uk or by phoning the church office on 01892 618108.
