Course Rationale:
The purpose of this course is to prepare students to pass the Network+ Certification Examination, not by teaching you the test, but by giving them the fundamental knowledge and skills needed by a Networking Technician with at least 9-months experience. By tying our objectives to the job tasks identified by CompTIA, we can squeeze maximum networking experience into minimum time. Can we give students 9-months experience in a 135-hour course? Well, in a way, we can. The Computing Industry, through CompTIA, has defined the skills and knowledge needed by a Network Technician with 9-months experience. When students have completed this course, they should not only pass the Net work+ Certification Examination, they should also possess those skill and knowledge areas defined as essential by CompTIA Industry Standards.

Prerequisites:
Before starting this course, students must have: Successfully Completed Computer Maintenance and Repair I with an above average grade. Or, have a valid CompTIA IT Essentials Certification.

Course Objectives:
This course maps fully to CompTIAs Network+ Exam objectives. It is designed to be a complete, step -by-step approach for learning the fundamentals of Networking hardware and software.

Catalog Description:
Computer Networking provides students with a basic understanding of computer networks. The course presents current coverage of networking hardware and software along with the skills necessary to succeed in the dynamic field of computer networking. Thorough explanations of networking fundamentals such as protocols, network design and implementation, and troubleshooting will be covered. Qualified students are eligible for certification in networking through the CompTIAs Network certification exam.

Attendance:
Students are expected to be present and punctual for all scheduled classes and labs.

Grading Rationale:
In this class, students will be evaluated according to performance in the following categories: Exams and Quizzes Lab activities and hands-on performance tests In-class assignments, homework, and class participation Perform research The breakout for grades is as follows: Exams, quizzes, and research Homework, labs and hand-on performance tests Final Participation and in-class assignments

Classroom Etiquette:
Pagers and cell phones will be turned off or set to vibrate mode during class. Please show courtesy to the class by restricting conversation to in-class topics, and raise your hand or walk up to the Instructor to gain attention when asking a question or raising a point of discussion.

Academic Honesty:
The high school experience is founded on the concepts of honesty and integrity. Dishonesty, cheating, plagiarism, or knowingly furnishing false information to the school are regarded as particularly serious offenses. Cases of dishonesty will be handled by levying heavy penalties. However, in flagrant cases, the penalty may be dismissal from school after proper due process proceedings.

Turning in Work:
Be sure to include your name, the course name and section on all work to be turned in.

Late Coursework:
All assignments are to be turned in by the due date. Late work may be accepted at the instructors discretion for partial credit.
