ASSURE Lesson Plan The ASSURE lesson plan integrates technology using online resources and technology tools

within the instructional activities and strategies. Analyze Learners Learners general characteristics. The lesson is designed for fifth grade students. This class consists of 19 students with various learning styles and exceptionalities. There are 10 boys and 9 girls with varying levels of academic ability and skills at using online resources and technology tools to produce an instructional product. Entry characteristics. These students have basic computer skills, which include using keyboarding to input information, browsing the Internet to conduct research, and using a variety of media and technology resources for independent and collaborative learning activities. Learning styles. There are a variety of learning styles displayed in this class. Some of the students are visual learners and auditory learners, but the majority of them are kinesthetic learners. The lesson incorporates a variety of activities to address all the individual learning styles. In addition, the collaboration among peers is very helpful because it gives them an opportunity to see, hear, and do what is expected of them. State Standards and Objectives The lesson plan addresses the state of Florida benchmark standards for education. The standards and objectives include: L.A.1.1.2 Listening, Viewing, and Speaking *Students will present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners S.S.3.1.1 Social Studies

*Students will increase their awareness and understanding of individuals with disabilities *Students will enhance their knowledge of the history and laws associated with individuals with disabilities L.A.4.6 Information and Media Literacy *Students will use appropriate technology to enhance communication and achieve a purpose *Students will determine and use appropriate tools for publishing and presenting a presentation Select Strategies, Methods, Media, and Materials The students will present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience on disability awareness. Students will work cooperatively in groups using the computer to browse the Internet to find information and resources about individuals with disabilities. They will also use other technology tools such as digital cameras to create a Power-Point presentation on Disability Awareness. Utilize Technology, Media and Materials The learning experience will begin with the teacher using the Promethean Board to present information and model techniques and strategies to create a Power-Point presentation. Students will use the computer and digital cameras to assist with the creation of their presentation. During small group instruction, other instructional materials and tools will be used to enhance students work. Prepare the materials. The teacher will gather all resources and materials prior

to the lesson. The teacher will make sure there are adequate working computers and digital cameras for students to use. Prepare the environment. The classroom will be conducive for all planned learning activities. Areas will be available for students to work in small groups to design and create their presentation. Prepare the learners. To prepare the students, the teacher will present background information on the topic. The teacher will model expectations and provide examples of an end product. Require Learner Participation Large group activities. At the beginning of the lesson, the teacher will provide information on the topic using the Promethean Board. The teacher will model various features of creating a Power-Point. Students will practice these skills as the teacher facilitates learning. The teacher will review the assignment and the grading rubric (see appendix). Prior to small group instruction, the teacher will address any questions to make sure students understand what is expected of them. Small group activities. Following the large-group instruction, the students will work in their individual groups to create their Power-Point presentation. During this time, they will use the computer to browse the Internet to find information on Disability Awareness. They will also use previously learned information to assist them with their presentation. Students will be given the opportunity to use other technology tools to enhance their presentation. For example, digital cameras will be used to take pictures of visual aids to upload to their presentation. Evaluate and Revise

The students will be assessed on their ability to cooperatively work together to create a Power Point presentation on Disability Awareness. A predesigned rubric will be given to students to make sure they fully understand the assignment. The rubric will be reviewed with the students, and they will be allowed to ask questions to clarify any misunderstandings they have. Students will also be able to use the rubric as they are working to assist them with completing their presentation.
