Technical description
Asymmetric thread flanks
Due to the asymmetric thread geometry the forces arising during screwing-in are directed into the desired direction. The objective is to obtain a fully bearing thread, as far as possible, over the whole length of the screw shank. It is desired that the plastic material has penetrated after the relaxation phase as deep as possible between the thread pitches.

Easy assembly
A large difference between the form moment and the failure torque facilitates assembling with a tightening torque which can vary in a wide tolerance range between form moment and failure torque. This ensures that all screws are fully tightened and that the possibility of peeled threads is excluded.
In order to improve the flow of the material the thread flank away from the screw head was given a radius. Because of this the plastic material is flowing close to the core diameter. The steeper side of the screw flank towards the screw head is stopping the material displaced in axial direction and, in this way, enables a larger thread flank overlap.
The thread angle declining towards the thread point reduces radial stress which could cause bursting of the boss walls. The steep bearing flank of the asymmetric thread shape ensures high stripping forces against tensile forces as well as against torque.

The nominal outer diameter of the screw is to be multiplied with the factor in the right-hand column for obtaining the approximate core hole diameter for the material in the left-hand column.

Note: The dimensions for core holes given above are for guidance only. They are based on theoretical calculations for a thread reach, which corresponds to twice the nominal diameter of the screw. It is important to determine the accurate figures for core holes, thread reach, tightening torque, and other important factors by corresponding tests with plastics parts.
