PRINCIPLES OF SOCIAL CASE WORK Principles values/beliefs/ ethics/ideologies pertaining to case work Relationship is the medium through which

The case work relationship is the dynamic interaction of attitudes and emotions between case worker and client for the purpose of adjustment with the environment by him/her I. Principle of Individualization Problems may be same but cause & perception of the problem varies and ego strength differs in every individual [capability] Therefore each individual client should be treated as separate entity Treat them as human being with personal differences not as ordinary human beings Understand and accept his/her expressions, feelings etc [right to be individual] Relate the clients situation with biological, psychological and social forces

Principle of Meaningful relationship Meaningful relationship is developed by the SCWr by demonstrating the interests in client Help the client to achieve the adjustment in maladjusted situation by developing trust, respect and care III. Principle of Acceptance SCWr should accept the client with all his/her limitations Acceptance is the crux of all help accepting strength weakness, good and bad qualities, positive and negative feelings, his constructive and destructive attitudes and behaviors etc Purpose of acceptance is very much therapeutic in nature.

IV. Principle of communication There must be proper communication between SCWr & client for proper understanding of each other. Communication is the road to identify the clients problems and understanding it Creating a comfortable environment to the client depends on proper communication

Principle of expression of feelings - Recognition of client need to express his/her feelings, especially the negative feelings - SCWr listens purposively [neither discouraging/condemning the expression of feelings] - Stimulation of expression in encouraged iff it is in a therapeutic way VI. Principle of controlled emotionally involvement SCWrs sensitivity towards clients feelings and emotions Understanding the feeling and emotions but does not involved emotionally in the problem of the client VII. Principle of Non judgmental attitude it is the quality of CW relationships SCWr does not blame the client for his/her problems SCWr should not make evaluative judgment about the attitudes, standards or actions of the client VIII. Principle of client self-determination practical recognition of clients right and need to freedom in making his/her own choices and decision but this right is limited by the clients capacity for positive and constructive decision making

IX. Principle of Self awareness CWr should know his/her strengths & limitation in dealing with clients problem If the problem goes beyond the capacity he/she shall transfer to appropriate authority

X. Principle of Confidentiality - Preservation of the secret information concerning client - It is disclosed in professional relationships
