Dear Deeply Readers, This week we took a close look at the battlefield in Syria. While the regime has made a string of strategic gains, Rebels Won Control of Aleppos Minnagh Air Base, while fighting broke out in the mountains surrounding Latakia, a regime stronghold. We featured a profile on Ersal: The Pro-Revolution Village in Lebanons Shia Heartland, and heard from a young man who fled Damascus, sharing his impressions from the capital: The really hard thing for people is that every neighborhood in the city now has a minimum of one checkpoint, so you have to pass through a checkpoint every time you go outthe mortar shells are also a problem, because many are hitting buildings by mistake, he said.
