on the StereoCoderto mid position. This kit is for use with a transmitter and serves no purpose as a stand alone unit. The circuit electronically combinestwo audio input channels into a single audio output channel usually called Multiplex. Feedingthe Multiplexinto a standardVeronica Kits transmitterproducesFM Stereoon suitable receivers.Other transmittersnot manufacturedby Veronica Kits may be compatiblewith the Stereo Coder. Compatibletransmittersshould have an audio input of line level(775 mV rms) and a flat audiofrequency response up to 76 KHz with no pre-emphasis. Apply power to the Stereo Coder and Transmitter. Tune an FM Stereo Receiverin to the Transmitter.Your stereo audio source is now 'ON AIR'. The stereo indicatorshould be active on the FM Receiver.Experiment with the VR1 and VR2 adjustmentson the Stereo Coderfor the correctlevelsof audio. : D O N OT S OLD E RA N Y C ON N E C TION S ON TO TH E P OB W ITH TH E P OWE RA P P LIE Dand D O N OT E X C E E D16 V OLTS .

Before attemptingany construction, check all the componentsagainstthe component list. lf any of the components are missing or damaged, immediatelycontactVeronicaKits or your supplierbeforegoing any further with this kit. lf you are unsure about soldering, see the 'solderingTips' section. The PCB is printedwith a legend showing the componentshapes and referencenumbers (R1, R2, R3, C1, C2, etc). Use the legend together with the component list to find the correct componentfor the PCB. Take extremecare when placingthe components on the PCB. lf a component is incorrectly placed, the circuit will not work properly and may even be damaged. It's normal to assemble tne PCBtrviththe smaller componentsfirst, progressing throughto ," :gercgrirponents. Use the PCB legendas a positioningaid, solder the componirtsinto the board and trim back the excessleads in the followingorder. '1. Resistors and LINK. Flat to PCB with very short leads. 2. Integrated Circuits (.l0l. CAUTION STATIC SENS/I/VE DEVICES. (Soldering lron must have good eah. Avoid touching the lC pins with your fingers). Gently bend lC pins with small pliers to allow fit to PCB. Make sure all pins go trtic PCB and lC is flat down. Line up with legend for correct polarrty.'fhe lC pins are close together, take great care not bridge any af the tins with solder. 3. Ceramic Disc Capacitors and the Variable Resistors. Keep leads very shorl and componenfsc/ose to PCB 4. XTAL, J1, J2 and Electrolytic Capacitors. Lrne up Electrolytic Capacitors with legend for correct polarity. All flat to PCB with no leads showing at all. C14. Leadsas shorf as possrb/eand close to PCB Phono Sockets. Flat to PCB Beforeapplyinga power supply to the circuit, check and double check that all the componentsare in the correct position with the right polarisation. joints, theseshouldbe shiny in appearance Checkall the soldered and all components should be rigid. Look carefully for accidentalsolder bridges and shorts. When all the checks are completeand okay, test the circuit. with water is ideal for cleaning the iron. After a few solderbdjoints, wipe the tip of the iron on the damp spongeto removethe dirt build up. Always apply the iron to the joint first, this heats the joint up, then apply the solder. This will give the joint a shiny and cone shapedappearance, which is correct.Never put a blob of solder on the iron and then apply this blob of solder to the joint. This will not work because the blob of solder will not bond to the cold joint.

No Audioor Stereo.Check: 1. Audio source connected to circuit properly. 2. VRl and VR2 on Sfereo Coder set to mid position. 3. Transmitter audio input set to mid positbn. 4. Joints on all lCs and componentsaround lCs. 5. Polarity of lCs and electrolytic capacitors. Due to the complexityof the circuit, other faults are more difficultto locate without test equipment. All of the components in the kit are high quality and brand new, it's very likely that a fault is down to the construction. Using the PCB legendand ComponentList, check that all components are in the correctpositionsand have the correctpolarity.

Carefully check the PCB soldering. Excessive solderihg may have shorted out adjacent tracks on the PCB. Solder splashingfrom the iron could have shorted out adjacenttracks. A magnifyingglass or multimeter may help to find any small hairlineshort circuitsnot visibleto the naked joints should be shiny in appearance. eye. All soldered Any dull looking soldering may be a'dry joint',causingthe circuitto malfuncfion. Re-solder joints. dull looking lf the circuit still has a fault after double checkingeverything, contactyour supplieror VeronicaFM via Post or Email. Describein writingor with a diagramthe exact problemand we will take stepsto get yotr working.
