El Grupo Calidad de Vida en Arquitectura est constituido por profesores, investigadores y colaboradores del Departamento de Arquitectura de la Universidad del Pas Vasco / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU).

El equipo aborda, desde el mbito de la Arquitectura, una de las reas prioritarias de la European Construction Technology Platform (ECTP), denominada Quality of Life. sta hace especial hincapi en la responsabilidad social de los agentes que intervienen en el proceso constructivo y en la necesidad de articular un dialogo interactivo con los usuarios, de manera que el factor humano vuelva al primer plano en las actividades de desarrollo e investigacin.

El crecimiento demogrfico global crea la necesidad de considerar el concepto de la sostenibilidad en el entorno edificatorio. Los procesos constructivos y las modalidades de gestin y de intervencin en el territorio urbano tienen una incidencia relevante en la preservacin del medio ambiente, en el ahorro de los recursos naturales, en la preservacin de los ecosistemas, en la calidad de vida de todos los seres humanos, etc.

Este concepto de sostenibilidad debe adaptarse las necesidades de las personas, en la bsqueda de la mejora contnua de sus condiciones de vida.

The group Quality of life in architecture is made up of professors, researchers and collaborators of the Architecture Department of University of the Basque Country.

The team, from the architecture point of view, deals with one of the priority areas of European Construction Technology Platform (ECTP), named Quality of Life. The abovementioned team focuses on social responsibility of the agents that intervene in the constructive process and in the necessity of bringing forth an interactive dialogue with the users, in such a way that the human factor stays in the foreground in the activities of development and research.

The global demographic growth creates the necessity of considering the sustainability concept in the constructive environment.

Such construction processes remarkably affect the preservation of the environment, the saving and of natural resources, etc.

The above concept of sustainability has to suit a persons needs in the continuous process of searching his/her best living conditions.

1. Calidad de vida en arquitectura

Esta lnea de investigacin incide en aquellos factores y aspectos arquitectnicos que influyen en la calidad de vida de las personas y en su percepcin. Entre esos aspectos de pueden citar:

2. Materiales y Sistemas constructivos industrializados

Esta lnea de investigacin propone definir sistemas constructivos que permitan aumentar la eficiencia energtica en la construccion de edificios. Se pretende avanzar en el diseo de sistemas ligeros, flexibles y reutilizables que garantizan la eficiencia en la produccion y seguridad en la puesta en obra, con la consiguiente reduccin de la produccin de residuos y consumo energetico. Y esperimentar y promover el uso de materiales alternativos que sean respetuosos con el medio ambiente.

Procesos constructivos innovadores. Integracin de nuevos materiales edificatorios en una construccin industrializada ecolgica.

2. Materials and industrialized building systems This research line aims to define building systems to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. This is achievable by designing light, flexible and reusable systems to allow the efficiency in the production and the security in the building process, reducing the quantity of residual materials and the energy. On the other side, a relevant part of the research consist of testing and using new materials more respectful with the environment.

3. Construccin sostenible y eficiencia energtica

En la lnea de Investigacin Construccin sostenible y eficiencia energtica se busca minimizar el consumo energtico de los edificios e incidir en el uso racional de los recursos, con el objetivo de reducir el impacto ambiental de los procesos edificatorios y urbanos. Estos aspectos redundan en la mejora de la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos.

3. Sustainable construction and energy efficiency The research line Sustainable construction and energy efficiency aims at minimizing the energy consumption of the buildings and at making a rational use of resources, with the objective to reduce the environmental impact of building and urban processes. Such aspects benefit the citizens life quality.

4. Regeneracin urbana

El objetivo principal de esta lnea de investigacin es mejorar la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos que habitan las ciudades existentes. Se desarrolla a travs de una labor multidisciplinar, y se estudia en los diferentes niveles que forman el tejido urbano, vivienda, edificio y barrio. La lnea hace especial incapi en los aspectos relacionados con lo social y en el papel de la ciudad en el camino hacia la sostenibilidad global del planeta. Estas cuestiones se desarrollan segn tres puntos de vista diferentes y complementarios.

4. Citizen participation and social perspective planning Main aim of this research line is to improve the quality life of citizens in existing cities. The research is developed by a multidisciplinary approach at the different levels of the urban tissue: houses, buildings and districts, emphasizing the social aspects and the rule of the city in the way of the global sustainability of the planet. El objetivo general del proyecto NET0LIFT consiste en investigar en tecnologas que permitan en el futuro desarrollar sistemas de elevacin (ascensores, plataformas elevadoras, pasillos rodantes, sistemas de movilidad urbana...) sostenibles desde el punto de vista medioambiental, social y econmico, integrables tanto en las nuevas edificaciones como en las ya existentes. Se trata de lograr sistemas de elevacin con balance energtico cero, que integren conceptos de ecodiseo, sean ms seguros, inteligentes, accesibles y amigables y estn interconectados con el exterior.

The general objective of the NETOLIFT project is to carry out research into technologies for the development of elevation systems (elevators, lifting platforms, passageways, urban mobility systems...) sustainable under the environmental, social and economical point of view and that can be integrated as much into new buildings as into the already existing ones. It is about implementing elevation systems with energy balance reduced to zero, that integrate concepts of ecodesign, which are safer, smart, accessible, friendly, that stay interconnected with the exterior.

El proyecto Ambientes Inteligentes para la Vida Independiente (AIVI) tiene como objetivo promover un salto cualitativo en la implantacin de servicios de inteligencia ambiental en el hogar dirigidos a personas dependientes, ancianas y/o discapacitadas, con la finalidad de extender al mximo el tiempo que dichas personas pueden permanecer en sus hogares, bien (dependiendo del grado de dependencia) realizando autnomamente el mayor nmero posible de tareas cotidianas, bien siendo asistidas por familiares o cuidadores, en cuyo caso la inteligencia ambiental supone una ayuda complementaria muy valiosa.

Los resultados del proyecto se validarn en entornos reales, no slo en viviendas, sino tambin en residencias de ancianos y discapacitados, donde los servicios de inteligencia ambiental contribuirn a mejorar la autonoma de los residentes, a la vez que se facilitan las tareas de supervisin por parte del personal de la residencia.

En el proyecto AIVI se cubren todas las reas de conocimiento relacionadas con el diseo e implantacin de inteligencia ambiental en hogares de personas dependientes: aspectos arquitectnicos, tcnicas de construccin y equipamiento, pasarelas residenciales, middleware, integracin de redes domsticas heterogneas, interfaces adaptadas, servicios de monitorizacin y teleasistencia, etc. Por otra parte, se cuenta con la colaboracin de asociaciones y organizaciones de apoyo a personas dependientes, que establecern las lneas prioritarias de investigacin, validarn las aplicaciones y servicios desarrollados, y darn su asesoramiento en las cuestiones ticas que surjan durante el transcurso del proyecto. The project Smart Environments for an Indipendent Life (AIVI) has the objective to promote an improvement in the implementation of environmental intelligence services in the houses of dependent, adult and disabled people, with the goal of extending the time that said people can pass in their own places as much as possible, (depending on the dependence degree) carrying out the largest number possible of daily tasks and being well-assisted by family members or curators, case for which the environmental intelligence arranges very important additional help. www.ehu.es/caviar 8

The results of the project will find place in the real context, not only for big buildings but also for adult and disabled homes, where the environmental intelligence services will help to improve the self-governance of the residents and make the supervision tasks of the residency personnel easier.

In the AIVI project are treated all known areas related to the environmental intelligence implementation plan concerning the houses of dependent people: architectural aspects, building techniques and equipment, residential platforms, middleware, installation of heterogeneous home nets, adjusted interfaces, video-assistance and monitoring services etc. On the other hand, the collaboration of associations for dependent people can be counted upon, they will establish the main lines of research, will make the services and applications offered effective, and will give their opinion on the ethic matters that will emerge during the course of the project.

El proyecto tiene como objetivo estudiar las diferentes posibilidades de integracin de las fachadas ventiladas activas en distintas tipologas de edificios. La integracin del sistema con el propio edificio y con el sistema de ventilacin y de difusin de aire permitir seleccionar la mejor solucin en cada caso, considerando adems los factores ambientales de emplazamiento, as como la actividad desarrollada en su interior y el rgimen de utilizacin del propio edificio.

The main goal of the project is to study the different possibilities of integration of the FVA in the diverse building typologies. The integration of the system with the main building and with the ventilation and difussion system will allow the election of the best solution in each case, taking also into account the environmental factors, the activities developed inside the building and the specificities of its use.

El proyecto, de manera integrada con las metas estratgicas del hospital, tiene como objetivo general el diseo e implementacin de un entorno tecnolgico integrado, orientado a todos los agentes de la labor asistencial: pacientes, profesionales y familiares. La entrada del paciente en el entorno asistencial, adems de hacerle objeto de la propia prctica clnica, supone a menudo un hecho traumtico, regido por normas diferentes a las que le son familiares. Se trata, por tanto, de definir y regular tanto los parmetros crticos en la calidad asistencial al paciente como las interacciones paciente-entorno, paciente-profesional, profesional-familia e incluso paciente-familia, de forma que queden integrados en un nico sistema asistencial. Mediante el diseo e implementacin de ese entorno se pretende conseguir un triple objetivo:

Incrementar la calidad de vida del paciente, de su entorno y del personal sanitario. Mejora de la asistencia sanitaria a todos los niveles implicados. Mejora de la eficacia de la asistencia sanitaria en trminos de coste y rendimiento de los recursos disponibles.

Projects general objective, following hospitals strategic goals, is developing technologyintegrated environments, focused on main hospital users: patients, professionals and relatives. Patient arrival is usually not a comfortable situation, not only for becoming an object of medical practice, but also because it supposes a traumatic fact being in a completely unknown position. support quality criteria and also patients overall interactions, so both get integrated in a unique support system. The designing objectives are the following:

Increasing Patient and health care staff quality of life. Improving healthcare support in every level involved. Improving the effectiveness of health care in terms of cost and performance of available resources.

The main goal of this project is the development of new technologies and materials in order to improve the urban comfort of cities raising their energetic efficiency thus allowing citizens to feel a substantial improvement in their life quality.

El presente proyecto pretende incrementar la calidad de los espacios pblicos urbanos con el objetivo de mejorar la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos, identificando las posibles actuaciones de mejora, la gestin de dichas actuaciones, y la propuesta de pautas de diseo para nuevos y ya existentes espacios pblicos. Este proyecto analiza espacios pblicos concretos en Donostia-San Sebastin, con especial atencin a los aspectos que influyen en la calidad de vida de los usuarios. otros, la calidad material y esttica del mismo, su capacidad de acoger actividades y su polivalencia de usos, su accesibilidad y facilidad para la movilidad como elementos de conexin dentro de la trama urbana, sus condiciones ambientales (trmica, acstica, calidad de aire), su relacin con el trfico rodado as como la seguridad fsica y emocional del usuario del espacio pblico. The main goal of the project is to reasses the quality of urban public spaces with the aim of improving the life standards of the citizens. This is done through the implementation of a multi-step strategy consisting of the identification of weak points, defining of potential actions take, management of the project and ultimatly setting the appropriate design guidelines for the both new and existing public spaces. This project focuses on specific urban spaces in the city of Donostia/San Sebastian, paying special attention to the aspects that influence the life of its citizens. Some of those aspects are : the quality of the materials and aesthetic impact, the capacity to foster various activities and the degree of multifunctionality, the accessibility and capacity to promote mobility as connecting elements within the urban mesh, the environmental conditions (temperature, acoustics, air quality), the interaction with traffic and with the physical and emotional safety of the users of the public spaces.

El objetivo del proyecto es desarrollar un sistema de cubiertas ventiladas activas industrializadas, que permita mejorar la eficiencia energtica en las edificaciones. Se evala la puesta en obra de estos sistemas, la integracin arquitectnica en la cubierta y el comportamiento de los materiales de cambio de fase comerciales como sistemas de almacenamiento de energa trmica, as como el ahorro energtico logrado para cada zona climtica. The main goal of the project is to develop an industrialized, active ventilated roofing system to improve energy efficiency in buildings. It will be evaluated the installation of the system, the architectural integration and the behaviour of commercial phase change materials as thermal energy storage systems, as well as the energy savings achieved for each climatic zone

Asesoramiento sobre Calidad de vida en Arquitectura, Materiales y Sistemas constructivos industrializados y Construccin sostenible y eficiencia energtica. Desarrollo y colaboracin en proyectos de Investigacin y Desarrollo en el mbito de la construccin arquitectnica, el urbanismo y la energa. Acciones formativas sobre los campos recogidos en las lneas de investigacin. Gestin de innovacin Gestin para la creacin de empresas especialistas en industrializacin constructiva sostenible, eficiencia energtica vinculada a edificacin y rehabilitacin energtica.

Asesoramiento y organizacin de procesos participativos relacionados con la ciudad

Amongst the goals of the team Quality Life in Architecture it is worth underlining the partnerships with enterprises and public institutions in the development of research and training activities. Therefore, it offers the following services:

Advice on quality of life in architecture, materials and industrialized construction systems and sustainable building development and energetic efficiency. Promotion and Collaboration in research and development projects in the fields of building construction urban planning and energy. Training actions based on the research lines. Innovation management. Procedures for the creation of enterprises specialized in sustainable industrial construction , energy efficiency related to building construction and energy restoration. Advice and organization of participatory processes related to the city
