Kidney transplant patients are reminded to register with the Ministry of Healths bulk purchase scheme at Jerusalem Road to have access to medication at a much cheaper price. Minister for Health, Dr Neil Sharma said registering would allow patients to buy expensive kidney transplant medications at a fraction of the cost. Some people have undergone kidney transplant and are still getting their medications from overseas which costs them a lot of money since they have to pay VAT and freight charges as well.

Drugs Available At Cheaper Price: Govt Provides 2014 Budget Date Health Minister
But if they register with us then the ministry through its bulk purchase scheme will purchase these medications in bulk which eventually means the price will go down significantly, Dr Sharma said. So far only 13 people have registered with the scheme. Medications available with the bulk purchase scheme include Tacrolimus Capsules 1mg which is available at $1.77c unit price, Mycophenolate Meofetil 500mg tablets at $0.66 unit price and Cyclosporine Capsules 100mg at $2.68 unit price. The 2014 budget announcement will be made on November 8, confirms Fijis Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary Filimone Waqabaca. Waqabaca said they were able to finalise the date following the approval from cabinet. In the meantime, he said they are awaiting submissions from all government ministries and departments. We have held discussions with all government ministries regarding the budget framework, Waqabaca said. And now they are formulating their budget for 2014 and we should be receiving those by the end of this

Bureau Notes Changes

The average annual rate of inflation for the 12 months to July this year stood at 2.7 per cent compared to 1.9 per cent on the comparable month for last year. And according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics for last month, the consumer price index for all items in registered a decrease of 0.2 per cent. Government statistician Epeli Waqavonovono said the consumer price index covered price changes in the urban areas in Suva, Lami, Nasinu, Nausori, Lautoka, Nadi, Ba and Labasa. He said a 0.6 per cent decrease was recorded for fruits and vegetables, confectioneries and other food products. Non-alcoholic beverages also experienced some price decreases with coffee and tea. For clothing and footwear, a 1.2 per cent decrease was recorded, 0.7 per cent for housing, water, electricity, gas and other utilities. "A 0.9 per cent decrease on the price was recorded for some new and second-hand clothes and fuel." Mr Waqavonovono said lower prices were also recorded for audio visual and personal care items. However, price increases were recorded for alcoholic beverage, cigarettes and yaqona, prescribed medicines and mobile phones. "Price changes were recorded for furnishing household equipment and routine household maintenance but they were balanced out," he said. He said no price change was recorded for restaurants and hotels.

week. Waqabaca said the government will also hold sessions with those in the private sectors to meet with the Prime Minister, Attorney General and other government officers. This is an opportunity given for those in the private sectors to share their experiences and inform government officials of what they would like to see in the next budget. The public, he says, will also be invited to make their submissions. A notable inclusion of the 2014 budget will be the allocation of funds for the planned September elections.

Help For Exporters

DOING business is not always easy especially with the increase in costs but the Fiji Export Council (FEC) says it is assisting small and medium enterprises to work smarter and within their means. This was possible after organizing a number of workshops on finance, marketing and packaging. FEC general manager Jone Cavubati said the two-day workshop, which ended on Tuesday, would assist small and medium enterprises to realise what their potential was. "We had the first phase of this program in May this year, and those that attended are now under a mentoring program which will continue for the next few months," he said. "The goal of the program is to upskill potential companies with the basic business requirements to enable them to join the exporting program as a contributing participant. "Some of these people are already exporting and are looking for new innovative ways to access new markets. For this workshop, it provided some marketing, a little bit of financing, goalsetting and acquiring knowledge on business development, how to improve and grow their business and participate effectively in terms of export." Eventually, he said they would learn about establishing a solid business and export plan as well as easy access to finance. "For most of these small operators, if they want to grow they will need this entire business plan to help them with their finance," he said. He said the workshop was different from others because it effectively monitored the progress of the participants after trainings by the trainer, Warwick McCormak. With the follow-up workshops this year by Mr McCormak, he said some of the enterprises managed to achieve about 80-90 per cent of their aim. "Team work is very important for an organisation with the right people for the right job." During the opening in Suva, Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation CEO Nesbitt Hazelman spoke on the importance of using the services of business councils in terms of loan or accessing business development funds.

Homeowner Benefits From Health Insurance Cover

A homeowner of Navosai subdivision in Nasinu left for India for open heart surgery under the Housing Authority's health insurance cover. Housing Authority chief executive officer Alipate Naiorosui said the health insurance policy was introduced in 2008 as a result of noting an increase in the number of cardiac and cancer cases among their homeowners. Appal Sami bought a piece of land in 2004 and slowly built a 3 bedroom home for his family. Currently 4,200 home owners are covered under the Housing Authoritys mortgage protection insurance policy which comes into effect in the event of the customers death and or total permanent disability. The cover ensures that the surviving family are freed from any debt because the policy settles the remaining balance on the home loan account. Under the health insurance cover, if a Housing Authority home owner is diagnosed with a cardiac condition or cancer, the insurance company requires a second medical opinion to verify the diagnosis. Upon meeting these conditions, Housing Authority is able to provide its customers, who are covered under the policy, with medical treatment in India. The health insurance covers the visa application, return airfares, accommodation, meals, treatment and also covers the cost of sending a support person or spouse. In critical cases, Housing Authority is also able to send a medical practitioner to accompany the homeowner, Naiorosui added. Since the launch of the health insurance policy in 2008, 22 homeowners have been sent to India for cardiac and cancer treatment and have successfully returned back to Fiji. Of this, 19 homeowners were sent for cardiac related treatment and 3 homeowners were sent for cancer treatment.

Mining Reports $9.9B Loss

Newcrest Mining Ltd has reported an annual net loss of $A5.78billion ($F9.93b) for the 12 months to June 30. The company's financial report released to the market on Monday said the loss resulted from a plunge in the gold price, lower production and massive write downs of $A6.23b ($F10.70b). It reported an underlying profit of $A451million ($F774.9m), less than half of the $A1.08b ($F1.85b) figure posted last year. Lower-thanplanned production at its Lihir and Gosowong projects in Papua New Guinea and Indonesia also affected the result. The miner has not paid a final dividend, which it said was due to its reduced income. All of Newcrest's key performance metrics were lower and its underlying profit was below consensus analysts' expectations for $A485m ($F833.15m). Operating cash flow was down more than $A1b ($F1.71b) to $A707m ($F1.21b) and sales revenue was down 14.5 per cent.

A Fijian national whose work permit expired 14 years ago has been remanded by Immigration New Zealand after he ignored a deportation order. Appearing before Judge Cameron at Whanganui District Court last week, Seru Penisoni Bogidrau, was denied bail. Whanganui Chronicles reports that Bogidrau, a forestry worker, arrived in New Zealand in March 1999 on a work visa which expired in October the same year. Upon the expiration of his visa, Bogidrau applied for a visitors visa, which was declined. He made no further applications after that. And in November 2001, he was issued a removal order and asked to leave voluntarily. Duty solicitor Stephen Ross, who appeared on behalf and on instructions from Bogidrau's lawyer, Mark McGhie, said he was well known to the Fijian and Polynesian community. Ross also argued that he had stable employment and accommodation and

More Fijians Coming Back Home

More than 3400 Fijians living abroad have applied for citizenship, the Fiji Immigration Department has confirmed. These include former Fijian citizens who left the country after the 1987 and 2000 coups. Applications have been received by the Immigration Department from 2009, since Government enacted the Dual/Multiple Citizenship Decree 23, 2009 on April 10. Director Immigration Major Nemani Vuniwaqa told the reporter that a total of 3461 applications from 2009 until June 30 have been approved after processing. He said more are coming back to the country for investment and business purposes. This is one of the reasons, he said, the Department was going to cut down the processing period. We want to create a safe business environment to attract investment which is the reason why we want to reduce the processing period, Major Vuniwaqa said. All these former citizens applying for dual and multiple citizenship bring in revenue to the country which is a boost to the economy. The processing period usually takes six months but they have decreased it to three months. Major Vuniwaqa said it would be further decreased to one month in the near future. More are complaining that the processing period is too long and once it is prolonged, it will keep them away from investing in Fiji, he said. Once all the required documents are submitted, then processing will be fast. In doing that, it will regain the confidence of investors especially those of former citizens. Meanwhile, less application were received in 2011. Major Vuniwaqa attributed the lack of passports as the reason behind it.

EIGHT women from Jittu Estate in Suva took part in a women's entrepreneurship workshop at the US embassy. US embassy economic and commercial officer Cyndee Crook said supporting

had no runnings with the law, intending to contest any deportation. Prosecution lawyer Harry Mallalieu opposed the bail application and said that Bogidrau had "flown under the radar" since 2001 and had had "slight contact with the law" being caught driving while disqualified in 2001 and 2007. Judge Cameron said there seemed to be no sense of urgency either by Bogidrau or McGhie in trying to find the defendant's passport, and Bogidrau had refused to complete alternative travel documents. He's obviously keen to do what he can to stay in the country, but he's the author of his own misfortune, the judge said. Judge Cameron said Bogidrau had shown a lack of co-operation in failing to sign the Fijian travel document in lieu of his passport and, with his other actions, was indicative of someone doing all he can do to avoid going back to his home country.

Ms Gaines is expected to conduct a similar workshop with women in Papua New Guinea next week

THE Central Division has recorded the highest number of people living with mental illness in the country with an average of 50 per cent. This was revealed by Saint Giles Hospital's medical superintendent Dr Peni Biukoto while on tour in the North early this week. Dr Biukoto said this was the result of the population distribution where a large number of people preferred to live in this division. "The other 50 per cent of people living

Change For A Better Life

Striving for a better future...Jone Nasavu on the streets of Suva City. He leaves home as early as 6am to shine few shoes before he goes to school. And every afternoon you'll see the same boy outside the old SPR outlet opposite Tappoo City in his school uniform impatiently waiting for customers to offer his services. This is part of Jone Nasavu's life, a Form Six student of Suva Grammar School because there is no one to support him to pay his school fees. While his father is serving a life term in prison, Jone, as he wished to be known, said his mother abandoned him when he was a baby. He said he regretted most of the decisions he made in life which landed him in prison. The one time street kid was given a second chance by SGS to pursue his dream of becoming a graphic designer when he came out of prison last year. The 24-year-old Rotuma native said he did not have anyone else to help him after his father was jailed for murder in 2000. "Since then life was not the same for me and my other siblings," Jone said. "One of my brothers just came out of prison and five more are still serving." Jone said he was grateful to be looked after by a family friend in New Town. "It is hard when you try to search for the missing pieces because you don't have anyone beside you to lend a helping hand. "I wish I knew who my mother was and where she lives. "But cleaning and shining people's shoes has given me some satisfaction because it has helped me with my education." He said with the little money he earned he was able to pay half of his school fees, bus fare to school and snacks for lunch. Jone advised young people that it was not too late to change for the better. "If you have a dream, believe in it and work towards it."

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and the paramount chief of Burebasaga Ro Teimumu Kepa led mourners at the funeral on Thursday for the late Tui Ba Bulu Ratu Sairusi Nagagavoka at Sorokoba Village. Political affiliations were set aside as members of the Fijian nobility and a large Goverment delegation

PM, Paramount Chief Lead Funeral Mourners

gathered to join others to pay tribute to a chief notable for championing multiracialism. Ratu Sairusi was buried at the chiefly burial grounds of Namacuka. He died at his residence last week Tuesday, aged 92. He leaves behind eight children, 31 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

The Suva Retailers Association is hoping people won't just enjoy the Vodafone Hibiscus Festival which begins this weekend, but also enjoy shopping at different outlets. President Himmat Lodhia said retailers looked forward to the 2013 Vodafone Hibiscus Festival as Suva would be busy with a lot of activities being planned. "That is very good news for retailers as this is the part of the year which most of us look forward to," he said. He said last year retailers recorded big profits from the festival and they hoped it would be better this year.

Enjoy Hibiscus Shopping

"Hibiscus definitely brings in a lot of people into the country, especially into Suva. People overseas from Australia, New Zealand, US and Canada normally target these holidays to travel to Fiji. "Suva will be busy with activity and that's very good news for retailers. We hope that the weather will be beautiful so people can enjoy themselves at the grounds but also enjoy their shopping too." Mr Lodhia said 2013 Vodafone Hibiscus Festival was not only anticipated by those businesses that hired tents and stalls at Albert Park but businesses in the Capital City too.

Fiji Fashion Week Ltd managing director Ellen Whippy-Knight said her team had worked hard to make the arrangements so that Hall could agree to come to the show. Hall is the most high profile designer ever to come to the region and to Fiji Fashion Week and lists among his customers the Canadian singer Celine Dion, Desperate Housewives star, Felicity Huffman and Former Miss America and actress Vanessa Williams. Fifteen families in the flood-prone areas of Nadi and Ba have new concrete homes this year, thanks to the generosity of the British Columbia Muslim Association. And according to project co-ordinator, Canadian Mohammed Yasin, 30 more families will also be given new homes next year. He said the housing project was funded

by former Fiji residents and businesses in Canada. Six houses have been completed while five are being constructed at floodprone Nawaqarua Village in Ba. Mr Yasin is calling on local businesses to support the cause and team up with his organisation. "We are also looking forward to have a partnership here in Fiji," he said

Free Eye Clinic

A LOCAL organisation has organised a free outpatient eye clinic in Sawani, Nausori, on Sunday, August 18. Ananda Marga Fiji have organised the clinic at the Sawani Police Post, which will be conducted by Suva optometrist Dr Rajendra Singh. Ananda Marga Fiji acting president Krishana Mannan said the group's aim had always been to help people around the country, and said the clinic was aimed at 'socioeconomically disadvantaged people living in and about the area.' Dr Singh said he felt it was a good cause where he could give his expertise. "Basically we're doing an outpatient clinic, and that will include dispensing of medication, reading glasses for those who have difficulty with reading, and for people with infections depending on the diagnosis we will be giving out different medications which they will receive immediately," Dr Singh said. Patients have been asked to register themselves in advance to Sunday's clinic at the Sawani Police Post. The clinic is from 9am to 5pm.

The Fiji Police Force is urging all schools to inform them whenever they go out on school field trips. The concern was raised by Police following an incident in Savusavu where a group of students from Gospel High School touring the North were involved in an accident. Police spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed that the school did not inform Police about their trip. Whenever a school is on a field trip to a particular area, it must alert the nearest Police Station so that an officer can accompany the group, Inspector Sokomuri said. He said it was important that an officer accompanied the group to supervise movements for safety reasons. The students, accompanied by three teachers, were returning from Savusavu Town when the accident happened near Yaroi Village. Four students who sustained minor injuries were treated and released, and were sent to Suva in a chartered plane on Tuesday. The reporter caught up with the remaining students who were visiting a copra mill in Savusavu. Speaking with anonymity one of the student described the incident.

Schools Should Tell Us Of Your Tour: Police

Everything happened so fast, the student said. We were walking along the road, the other girls were trailing behind when the four-wheel drive vehicle veered off the road and hit them. Everyone is still in the state of shock; we pray that they will be touched by the healing power of God. I am sad that my friends are not here with us. Meanwhile Sheenal Singh, 18, who suffered a hip injury, pelvic fractures and internal bleeding in the head is still admitted at the Labasa Hospital. The Ministry of Healths spokesperson, Shalvin Deo, said the student underwent a major surgery as she received multiple fractures. The remaining 30 students are expected to return to Suva. Inspector Sokomuri said a 47-yearold driver involved was taken in for questioning but has been released. Investigations still continue and the student still admitted in the Labasa Hospital is yet to give her statement, Inspector Sokomuri said. Meanwhile, Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary Dr Brij Lal said they do not discourage schools to take field trips, but safety measures should always be adhered to.

Fiji Airways acting chief executive has warned that the weakening Australian dollar could work against the island destination as domestic holidays become increasingly attractive. Aubrey Swift, who will step down from his temporary role at the end of month, said there is a view in Fiji that the currency fluctuations could benefit Fijian tourism. He told the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation conference in Sydney there is optimism that holidaymakers will stop going to the US and come to Fiji instead. My own view is that [the weakening dollar against the US dollar] brings domestic Australian holidays into focus, Swift said. But Peter Ingram, Hawaiian Airlines executive vice president and chief

Former Town Council Employees Breach Bail

Two former Nausori Town Council employees who breached their bail conditions will appear before the Nausori Magistrates on August 28 for their pleas to be taken. The two former rates officers, Iniana Tabuwaiwai and Timaima Mocevakaca, who were charged by Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) failed to report to the Nabua and Nausori police stations respectively as per their bail conditions. Appearing before Nausori Magistrate Court judge Waleen George, the two were warned of the consequences of absconding bail. They were expected to give their pleas, but Tabuwaiwais Legal Aid Counsel said she needed more time to look through the documents relating to her clients statement before her client can take a plea. Tabuwaiwai and Timaima faces 30 counts of dishonestly causing a loss to the Nausori Town Council by not taking steps to deposit the amount totaling $7,981.85 received as rate payment by rate payers from Nakasi and the Nausori area. FICAC Prosecutor Francis Puleiwai said the two failed to report to the Nabua and Nausori Police stations as required under their bail conditions.

We Did Not Lobby Against PIDF: NZ

New Zealands Foreign Minister Murray McCully has denied instructing any of his officials to lobby Pacific countries not to attend the recent Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) held in Fiji last week. These comments follow a statement made Fijis Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola stating that Australia and New Zealand lobbied behind the scenes in an effort to discourage Pacific countries from attending the Pacific Islands Development Forum. Im not aware of any attempt to dissuade people from participating in that forum. Certainly it wasnt done at my request or on my instructions and if I had heard about anything of that sort happening, I would have made sure it stopped, McCully told Radio New Zealand. McCully said that the visit made to New Zealand by Papua New Guineas Prime Minister Peter ONeill had nothing to do with keeping him away from Fiji. We had agreed that we would see an exchange of High Commissioners in the early part of this year. For a variety of reasons, the Fijian government has decided they dont want to process with that arrangement. The fact of the matter is the Australian appointment has been held up and ours is in the queue behind it. I hope that well be able to get back to a more regular style of representation sometime soon. He also said everything does not make practical difference as there is a functioning mission in Fiji. The new PIDF which will be setup in Suva soon was attending by 14 countries however New Zealand and Australia was only invited as an observer.

Drivers Warned On Overloading

The Land Transport Authoritys (LTA) divisional manager North, Isoa Tawakevou, is calling on sugarcane lorry drivers to be careful when transporting cane to the mill. This follows an incident in Labasa where a truck loaded with harvested cane flipped onto as it was heading to the Labasa sugar mill. The driver, Sachida Nand, said he had stopped to give way to an oncoming vehicle, but as he turned the truck the left side of the truck took the full weight and tipped over. Mr Tawakevou said the drivers should check that the trucks fasteners are tightened before leaving. The Northern Division has recorded three similar incidents in the past week. Mr Tawakevou suspects that the cane truck was overloaded and advised that drivers must take note of the required weight or load before making a delivery. They need to work within the maximum required weight he said.

Taxi Driver Arrested For Drugs

A 41-year-old taxi driver is in police custody after he was found with 42 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the dried leaves have been sent for analysis and the public is being warned not to involve themselves in illegal trade. Sokomuri is also calling on the public to report anything they find suspicious or give them a call if they have any information on drug dealers to call 917 or 919.

Celebrating Rakhi
Rakhi celebrations are about strengthening the bond of love between brothers and sisters and fostering brotherhood. This festival is not a ritual, custom and tradition that can change over time but its style of celebration has become contemporary. Since ages, Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated in the same way. All the traditions are followed with the same enthusiasm. The gaieties have only blown up to a larger scale. Rakhi festival is the celebration of the chaste bond of love amongst the siblings. Everyone start preparing for this festival much in advance. About a month before the commencement of raksha bandhan, you can see fancy and colorful rakhis in every market. Ladies start shopping for rakhi and rakhi gifts quite early. They shop for new clothes and beautiful rakhi gifts specially the one that have to be sent to their brothers staying far. Almost every shop, be it sweet shops, garment shops, gift shops, or any other shop, all are flooded with attractive rakhi gifts to attract people. The celebration of Rakhi, is well known for its carnival spirit and strengthening the bond of love between brothers and sisters. In fact, India is globally known for its colorful festivals and ever-green tradition. Celebrated with different rituals, family get-together and sweets, Raksha Bandhan is about sentiments, love and enjoyment. Like any other festival, rakhi has its unique significance. On the day of Rakhi festival, the festivity of this auspicious day begin by the day break. After taking bath early morning, people get ready by wearing new clothes and gather for worshiping. After invoking the the blessings of the Gods, the sister performs brothers arti, puts tika and chawal on his forehead and ties Rakhi amongst chanting of mantras. Sisters whole heartedly give sweets to their brothers to eat which in turns add more sweetness in the Raksha Bandhan celebration and pray for their well being. In return, brothers pamper their sisters and present beautiful gifts to lure them. They also promise to take care of her and stand by her side in any circumstances. After performing all these rituals, the whole family reunion to enjoy and have fun. Then all of them share the delicious food, tasty sweets, gifts, music and dance. It is a day to remember all the memorable time spent together for those who, for any reason, are far away from their family. Emotions can also be expressed through e-mails, e-cards, rakhi greeting cards and rakhi through Internet. The overflowing emotions of siblings cannot be stopped on this day. Rabindra Nath Tagore started gathering of people like 'Rakhi Mahotsavas' in Shantiniketan to propogate the feeling of brotherhood among people. He believed that the this will invoke trust and feeling of peaceful coexistence. Raksha Bandhan, for them, is a way to harmonize the relationship of humanity. The tradition continues as people started tying rakhis to the neighbor and friends. Rakhi is on Wednesday, August 21

Westpac Bank Supports Six Recipients

Fiji wants to host a leg of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) tour next year at the renowned Intercontinental Golf and Spa Resort at Natadola says the Minister for Youth and Sport Commander Viliame Naupoto. He made the comments while opening the Nadi Inter Primary School Golf Competition at the Novotel Golf Course in Nadi. We are going to meet with the PGA next week to put our bid to host a leg of the PGA Tour which will see the top golfers playing for the very first time in Fiji, he told the students. Golf is a very big sport around the globe and we are very proud to have the Fiji flag also flying high in the golfing

world thanks to our very own former World number 1 Vijay Singh. The golf course in Natadola was designed by Vijay Singh himself. The Minister who is a golfing enthusiast himself told the students some important lessons that the sport of golf teaches. It teaches you to be honest, discipline and instills in you integrity. Its not a noisy sport and it also promotes good sportsmanship as you will see competitors acknowledging good shots, the Minister said. However, winning is not on the cards it is a bonus what you need to do is to give your best every time you do something just like in school.

Schoolteacher Mary Blakelock receives her education grant from Westpac Fiji general manager Adrian Hughes at Jai Narayan College in Suva GENDER inclusion and financial literacy are not just important issues for all Fijians but it has become a cause supported by a commercial bank through its education grants program. Westpac Banking Corporation awarded education grants for six young women and girls in Suva as it strengthened its efforts to offer financial assistance to primary, secondary and tertiary students, as well as women in the workforce who wished to continue their studies. Westpac Fiji general manager Adrian Hughes said the bank was happy to support women in education in a Fijian community through its Westpac Women's Education Grants program. "This year's theme is all about empowering tomorrow's women. It is to create true gender equality in this country and we hope through programs like this that we give these girls and women the financial boost to set themselves up for a successful career," Mr Hughes said. Speaking from the perspective of an employer, he said a good and successful career required a good family, healthy lifestyle and a great education. "Studies show time and again that the greater the education of women and the more they participate in the economy, the more dynamic and more growth is experienced in that country. "For women and girls themselves, it's not just about having a better education it's also about increasing confidence and high self-esteem." This is the fourth time Westpac has offered six grants in Fiji. A total of 49 grants were made available across the Pacific region. One of two tertiary recipients, Mary Blakelock, considered herself very fortunate saying the award had taken a financial load off her shoulders. A schoolteacher by profession and undertaking her Bachelor of Arts degree in primary education Ms Blakelock said she was looking forward to completing the three semesters she had pending. Sera Kavekai and Raina Ram each won a grant of $500 for the primary school category while Adi Sereana Tuivanuakula and Sianiti Bulisala were awarded with $1500. Vasenai Lauta and Ms Blakelock received $3500 each towards the cost of their education.

CRUSHING resumed at the Lautoka Mill last week after authorities gave the Fiji Sugar Corporation the green light to go ahead, satisfied with repair works carried out over the past two weeks. FSC executive chairman Abdul Khan said crushing was supposed to have started early on Thursday morning but had to be pushed back to allow inspections and clearance by officials from the Ministry of Labour. The Lautoka sugar production factory, the largest in the country, was shut down for close to 18 days after the support structure of an evaporator gave way spilling tonnes of hot water on to

the mill floor. A mill worker who suffered 50 per cent burns died at the Lautoka Hospital a few days after the incident. Labour Ministry officials immediately launched an investigation into the incident and preliminary enquiries pointed to poor workmanship as a possible cause. Mr Khan said investigations were continuing despite the all-clear for sugar processing to begin. "The investigation is continuing with the Ministry of Labour and they are doing a thorough job on this and we are providing assistance."

Navua Fire Walking

A workshop will be held at the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji this week with the focus on developing a State Action Plan to address carbon dioxide emissions from airplanes. The two-day workshop is organised by the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji and will be conducted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. The Attorney-General and Minister for Civil Aviation, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, will open the workshop. It is believed the plan could save airlines millions of dollars a year while reducing carbon dioxide emissions, thus contributing towards environmental protection. When completed, the plan will be submitted to the International Civil Aviation Authority with the specific measures that have been or will be taken to address carbon dioxide emission reduction. It will also indicate what will be required to implement it. Authority acting chief executive, Isei Tudreu, in a statement said the authority was grateful to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) for providing the expertise and the confidence in Fiji as a host nation to organize the workshop. The participants Both Fiji Airways and the air navigation service provider, Airports Fiji Limited are expected to play a major role in the workshop. They would be joined by participants from the Department of Environment, Ministry of Strategic Planning, National Development & Statistics and also the authority. We expect those involved with the implementation of green initiatives and the provision of data and computation relating to carbon dioxide savings that would be needed for the preparation of the State Action Plan to attend, Mr Tudreu said. Reason behind workshop The workshop evolved from a 2007 International Civil Aviation Authority global target initiative to create a carbon dioxide standard for aircraft by 2013. ICAO is a United Nations Agency with 192 member countries (including Fiji). Amongst its functions, it also supports all aspects of civil aviation including setting policies. Navua TISI Sangam Temple devotees performed their fire- walking rituals to seek blessings over Navua. Rajendra Nair, a priest at the temple, said firewalking was a beautifying ritual. It is a beautifying ritual whereby devotees would like to be cleansed or to be healed from sickness. And another reason is that they would also want to achieve something in life, Mr Nair said. It is not only for the devotees but for the blessing of the whole of Navua, he said. He said its up to the devotees on whether they would want to perform in the fire walking ritual. The devotees included men, women and children. Mr Nair said preparations for the ceremony were overseen by a priest and it took one week, with the firewalking as the climax of the ritual. It is done as part of a religious vow in which the devotee promises to walk on fire in exchange for a wish or blessing granted by the Goddess Maha Devi. The participants rise early, pray until late at night, survive on little food or sleep and dress in red and yellow, which symbolises the cleansing of physical and spiritual impurity. Yellow turmeric is smeared on the face as a symbol of prosperity and power over diseases. On the final day the participants bathe in the sea, the priests than pierce the tongues, cheeks and bodies of the firewalkers with Trishul (three-pronged skewers). The firewalkers then dance into an ecstatic trance for about two kilometres back to the temple for the fire walking; their altered state enabling them to perform the feat. It is said if firewalkers were focused on the divine Mother they should not feel pain. The firewalking attracted people from all walks of life and backgrounds including tourists.

THE Reserve Bank of Fiji is still in negotiations with supplier Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) over the discolouration issue of the new $1 and $2 coins. RBF governor Barry Whiteside said they received a preliminary findings report from RCM and were negotiating to find an amicable solution.

RBF Negotiations In Progress

"The RBF will advise further when a decision has been reached," Mr Whiteside said today. He said earlier the discolouration issue was first identified early this year, soon after the coins were issued into circulation from January 2, and caused confusion among members of the public.

The post mortem result of the 30-yearold Solomon national who died during the weekend revealed that he died of injuries sustained during an alleged attack. This was confirmed by Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri. Colin Maepara was pronounced dead a few hours after he arrived at the

Increased chaos, activity and lots of action on the home front are likely this week. This could be due to renovations, redecorating or visiting guests. Benjamin Franklin said, "Guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days." Whatever the case, this could create tension between you and others. Naturally, patience is the antidote to anger, so demonstrate grace under pressure. In the next 18 months, home and family are where your good fortune will continue to grow. Yay! And this is one of the best opportunities to explore real-estate situations in more than a decade. Buy, sell or expand and improve where you live. Family relationships will become more loving and generous as well.

growth. (Time to let out another pleat in the shower curtain?)

Leo

Taurus

Communications with others are aggressive right now because you identify with your beliefs. You're proactive and forceful in your discussions with others. You're putting a lot of yourself into what you have to say. Naturally, this can lead to arguments! On the other hand, if you have to sell an idea, you're hot! Writers, salespeople, teachers and actors can be productive. Looking ahead in the next year, your optimism will carry you through everything. Your plans for the future will be big, optimistic and expansive. Because your attitude to everyone is more generous and understanding, people will seek you out. "Wanna sit at our table?"

Ironically, although this is your month and, to be sure, opportunities and people are coming your way nevertheless, fiery Mars is hiding in your chart making you restless and impatient. Of course, from your POV, you're surrounded by idiots. (Oops, did I say that?) People can be so annoying, shortsighted, thoughtless and inconsiderate, can't they? Well, by the end of the month (the 27th to be precise), fiery Mars enters your sign to stay until mid-October. Look out world! In the meantime, patience is a virtue and it's a wonderful thing to foster. Unfortunately, the only way you can practice patience is to be in situations that test your patience! That's the bummer part. (You're doing great.)

faced a newspaper deadline.) Count on wonderful travel opportunities in the next year along with opportunities to learn and expand your world.

Sagittarius

Virgo

Gemini

You're focused on money, cash flow, financial situations, your job and possibly on stuff you own. Right now and for the rest of the month, you're working hard to earn money and many are spending freely as well. (Now you see it - now you don't.) Mars heightens your ability to identify with what you own. You might be proud of something. You might be reluctant to lend it. You might use what you own to get things done. The good news is that in the longrange picture, in the next year, Jupiter will help you to manifest whatever it is you most value. (Wow.) It could be money, it might be something else.

You're goal-oriented. You're lying in bed at night thinking, "what's next?" ("Ho hum, here I am, pondering my hopes and dreams for the future. Who's stealing the blankets?") Fortunately, this year others will help you achieve your goals. And you'll enjoy increased popularity well into next year! ("Yay, everybody loves me.") This week and this month, you might feel competitive with someone, perhaps in a team sport or some kind of physical activity. You want the personal gratification of winning or doing well. Look for ways to co-ordinate your needs and activities with others so you can make things a win/win situation, then you come out smelling like a rose.

Your gonads are in overdrive. Factoid. This makes you passionate about everything - not just sex. This is why you confront others about values, money, shared property, loans or shared possessions. You will stand up for what you believe and not tolerate anything questionable. Actually, you might want to give this some thought and soften your position. Ya think? In the longrange, you're going to be laughing all the way to the bank because you have wonderful opportunities during the next 18 months to benefit from the wealth and resources of others. People are going to give you things. You will inherit or receive goodies from others or benefit indirectly because of their increased wealth. Wake up to this reality. The US justice department has filed an anti-trust case to block the merger of American Airlines and US Airways. The $11bn deal, which would form the world's largest airline, was backed by a federal judge in March and has been approved by the European Union. The complaint says customers would see a price rise as the merger would "substantially lessen competition" in the domestic market. US Airways boss Doug Parker said the company would fight the injunction. "We are extremely disappointed in this action and believe the DOJ [Department of Justice] is wrong in its assessment," Mr Parker said in a letter to employees. The District of Columbia and six US states and have joined the legal action: Texas, where American Airlines is headquartered, Arizona, where US Airways is based, Florida, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia. 'Higher air fares' American Airlines and US Airways said that in light of the justice department's action they no longer expected the merger to close by the end of 2013, but that they remained "hopeful" litigation would be over by year's end. Shares in both companies fell, along with the stock prices of other airlines, as news of the anti-trust case hit the markets on Tuesday. "By challenging this merger, the Department of Justice is saying that the American people deserve better," US Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement. "This transaction would result in consumers paying the price - in higher air fares, higher fees and fewer choices." The lawsuit also cites direct competition between the airlines on nonstop routes worth about $2bn in annual revenues. In one example, the complaint says the newly merged company would take up 69% percent of flights out of Washington's Reagan National Airport and 63% of

US Moves To Block Merger Of American Air And US Airways

nonstop routes out of the airport. The airlines had previously conceded take-off and landing slots at airports in Philadelphia and London in order to win EU approval last week. When the deal was announced in February, US Senate Commerce Committee chairman Jay Rockefeller also expressed concern that consumers would lose. American Airlines has been in bankruptcy protection since November 2011, but US Airways has been profitable in recent years. 'Stake in the heart' The two combined airlines would have 6,700 daily flights and annual revenue of roughly $40bn The justice department complaint argues the two companies do not need to merge to continue to be competitive, and that American Airlines is likely to exit bankruptcy as a "vigorous competitor". The department also cited American Airlines' purchase two years ago of 460 new planes, said to be the largest such order in industry history. If the merger continues, there will be only three major US airlines, which the justice department alleges "increasingly prefer tacit coordination over full-throated competition". Some industry analysts suggest that American Airlines and US Airways' ability to compete without a merger is not as strong as the department argues. "I'm not sure if long term either of these airlines can be a viable competitor by itself," Ray Neidl, an airline analyst at Nexa Capital, told the reporter. "It probably will cause prices to go down in the short term as they compete, but I think long term US Airways and American are going to have a hard time competing." But one opponent of the two firms' consolidation, Charlie Leocha, director of the Consumer Travel Alliance, told the news agency: "This is a stake in the heart of the merger. I don't see this moving forward."

Indian-Built Aircraft Carrier INS Vikrant Launched

Sinkhole Opens Under Florida Resort Villa

A hotel near Disney World in Florida has partially fallen into a sinkhole, the latest such incident in the state. Dozens of people were inside the 24unit villa near Clermont as the ground gave way before dawn on Monday, but all were safely evacuated. Windows broke and cracking was heard as the sinkhole, up to 60ft (18m) in diameter, began to open. Much of the state straddles a system of limestone caverns that are subject to water erosion, causing them to cave in. A 15ft-deep crater has opened in the ground beneath the Summer Bay Resort villa, which is about 10 miles (16km) west of Disney World, said local fire chief Tony Cuellar. Luis Perez, who was staying across the road, told the news agency: "You could see the building leaning, and you could see a big crack at the base of the building." Firefighters helped holidaymakers evacuate the building as they heard it cracking. The building collapsed soon after, fire officials told the Orlando Sentinel. "My heart sunk." resort president Paul Caldwell told reporters. "No doubt there would've been injuries if they hadn't gotten the building evacuated." In March, a sinkhole beneath a house in the suburbs of Tampa, Florida, swallowed a man who was in his bed. His body was never recovered. Sinkholes are common in certain parts of Florida, although most are small. The state's law requires home insurers to provide coverage against sinkholes.

A Beijing resident has built a mountaintop villa on the roof of a 26-storey apartment block. The house pokes out among trees, bushes and rocks, said to be made of imitation shells rather than stone. Neighbours have reportedly complained about China's latest architectural oddity, which covers more than 1,000 square metres, saying they fear it could cause the structure to collapse. According to The South China Post, at least two neighbours have moved out because of the construction work, which has been going on for years.

Others complained about damage to pipes and walls in their units. "We feel this is extremely unsafe," one resident said. "What if the top collapses in rain and wind storms? "What if our ceiling collapses?" Authorities have posted notices saying the villa, located in the Haidian area in the west of the city, is illegal. Houses standing on top of multi-storey buildings are not unknown in China, where arising property market is making land more and more expensive. The fate of the rock villa remains unclear.

Russian police have detained a Siberian surgeon on suspicion of stealing a bag of heroin he removed from a patient's stomach. The unnamed doctor was allegedly high on drugs when he was arrested at a hospital in the small town of Bogotol more than 3,000 kilometres east of Moscow. He had originally been called in by police to surgically remove packages containing heroin from a suspected drug carrier's stomach. He was arrested when detectives realised some of the drugs had gone missing. "When they searched the surgeon, they found a package with five grams of heroin hidden in his clothing," police for the Siberian Krasnoyarsk region said in a statement on their website.

"At the moment of the detention, the doctor was in a state of narcotic intoxication." In a police video, the surgeon declined to answer questions. He now faces up to 15 years in prison for theft and possession of a large amount of drugs. The police arrested the suspected drug carrier, a man from the ex-Soviet state of Tajikistan, when he fell ill on a train between the Siberian cities of Novosibirsk and Irkutsk, a regional transport police spokesman said. The train stopped at the nearest station, the town of Bogotol, and police took the courier, who had slipped into a drug-related coma after the heroin leaked into his stomach, to have the packages surgically removed.

Jaws may not be the only one salivating as you splash. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, a cousin of the piranha reported to go after swimmer's testicles has been found in coastal waters between Sweden and Denmark. And fish experts are warning locals to stay aware -- in order to stay whole. "Keep your swimwear on if you're bathing in the Sound these days -maybe there are more out there!" Henrik Carl, a fish expert at the Natural History Museum of Denmark, told Swedish news site. "They bite because they're hungry, and testicles sit nicely in their mouth," Carl added. Yikes! The creature in question is a red-bellied pacu, and is native to the Amazon. Pictures of the freaky fish frequently make the rounds of inboxes because of its strangely human-looking teeth. Local fisherman Einar Lindgreen caught the exotic species on Aug. 4 in the Oresund, the strait between Denmark and Sweden, according to

Testicle-Biting Fish Invading Denmark, Authorities Warn

LiveScience. The toothy chomper Lindgreen found was just 8 inches long, but the fish can grow to weigh as much as 55 pounds. Though its teeth are used mainly to crush nuts and fruits, the pacu eats other fish and invertebrates and there have been some reports of human attacks. In Papua New Guinea, the invasive species has reportedly earned a reputation as the "ball-cutter" after castrating a couple of local fishermen, LiveScience said. "It's the first time this species has been caught in the wild in Scandinavia," fish expert Peter Rask Mller of the University of Copenhagen said in a statement. "Discovering whether this fish is a lone wanderer or a new invasive species will be very exciting. And a bit scary." "It is not unlikely that someone has emptied their fish tank into a nearby stream just before a vacation and that the pacu then swam out into the brackish waters of Oresund," Mller said. Better tie those trunks extra tight, however -- just in case.

A New Zealand woman drove for almost 300 kilometres while asleep at the wheel and sent text messages from her mobile phone along the way, police say. Police say they received an emergency call just after midnight Wednesday (local time) from a friend concerned the woman had gone out in her car after taking sleeping medication. Officers, who were told the woman had been sleep driving 10 months ago and was fond of the beach, ordered patrol cars to keep a lookout for her silver hatchback and began tracking her via her mobile phone. They say data showed the phone was on and she was sending texts as she drove from her Hamilton home to the beachside town of Mount Maunganui

via Auckland, a distance of almost 300 kilometres. After five hours on the road, she was finally found slumped over the wheel of her car in the driveway of a house she used to live in, with no recollection of her sleepy sojourn. "We have sought an urgent order forbidding her to drive and to seek medical advice on her suitability to remain holding her driver's licence," senior sergeant Dave Litton said. "While her being found safe and well is a relief for everyone involved, the potential for tragedy was huge. "We're urging people suffering medical conditions to be open and honest with their doctors and seek advice on if the medication they are prescribed affects their ability to drive or not."

Two men died and eight others were hospitalized after a toxic gas build-up on board the luxury ship featured in hit TV show The Love Boat. The decommissioned vessel, named Pacific Princess, was heading in to dock on the coast of Turkey for the last time on Saturday following news it is to be scrapped. It began taking on water as it neared the shore, and several crew members entered the engine room to pump it out.

A rescue operation is underway after an estimated 18 sailors were trapped when an Indian submarine exploded in the port of Mumbai. The explosion ripped through the diesel-powered INS Sindhurakshak, which was berthed at a naval base in the coastal city. Reports say a huge fireball engulfed the submarine following the explosion. Dozens of sailors jumped to safety, but it is believed about 18 are trapped below decks. The INS Sindhurakshak, recently refitted by Russia, was totally submerged after the explosion, the navy confirmed. At this stage it is not clear what caused the explosion, but naval officials say it was an accident. "The cause of the explosion is not

known," navy spokesman Narendra Kumar Vispute said. "We are searching for the 18 personnel." He said divers had been deployed once the flames were extinguished. "There are no reports of casualties at the moment," Mr Vispute said. The NDTV channel showed grainy and shaky footage of the fierce explosion, which lit up the sky at the naval dockyard shortly after midnight. "There were two to three explosions and the night sky lit up briefly," said eyewitness Dharmendra Jaiswal, who manages a public toilet near the dockyard and was sleeping there overnight. "There was a lot of smoke and I thought it was some major repair work." The Mumbai dockyard, which is a restricted area, was closed to media.

Reports suggest a deadly build-up of exhaust fumes poisoned ten workers, killing two of them. The other men were treated in hospital for the effects of gas poisoning. Some local reports suggest nine workers were injured. Authorities in Turkey are investigating the incident. The Love Boat, a romantic sitcom set on board a cruise ship, ran for ten years in the U.S. until 1986.

A 7-year-old girl was raped in a train's toilet compartment in central India over the weekend, police said Tuesday. The incident comes amid widespread outrage in recent months over sex crimes across India. Anger, frustration over rapes in India: 'Mindset hasn't changed' The child was lured away from her mother and her friend by a man in a park in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh state, last Friday, railway police superintendent K.C. Agrawal told the reporter. Police suspect that man then took her on board a train and sexually assaulted her in the toilet compartment of a carriage sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning. The suspect "was apparently known to the friend of the child's mother," Agrawal said. The alleged attacker, around age 40, remains at large. Police teams, Agrawal said, have fanned out to capture the suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed. The victim, who was found on Saturday morning at a train station, is

under treatment at a hospital, and her condition is stable, police said. Sex crimes, harassment a major issue A robust public dialogue on sex crimes in India emerged in December after the gang rape of a 23-year-old woman in a bus in New Delhi. The student died in a Singapore hospital. Her case focused the nation's attention and anger on sex crimes. An outcry quickly grew over reportedly widespread harassment of women in public. Demonstrators took to the streets to call for stricter laws on sexual assault and changes in cultural attitudes toward women. Last month, a court convicted six men to life in prison in the gang rape of a Swiss tourist in Madhya Pradesh state. The men have denied the charges. The victim and her husband were on a cycling tour across India and had set up camp near a forest in Datia district when a group of men assaulted them, beating the husband and raping the wife, according to police. The men were members of a local tribe who live near where the travelers were camping.

A police SWAT team stormed a bank in the American state of Louisiana early on Wednesday, killing a gunman after he shot two hostages, one of whom later died. In a dramatic end to a 12-hour standoff, officers entered the bank in the small town of St. Joseph shortly after midnight because the gunman was threatening to kill one or both of his hostages, police spokesman Albert Paxton said. The gunman, identified as 20-yearold Fuaed Abdo Ahmed, a paranoid schizophrenic who shot both hostages when police entered the Tensas State Bank in St. Joseph, a town of less than 1,200 people in the northeast of Louisiana. Police officers then shot and killed him, Mr Paxton said. Ahmed had planned his attack, according to the authorities, who said police found a book on hostage negotiations at his apartment. "This was not a bank robbery," State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson told reporters in a video posted on the website of the Monroe, Louisiana News Star newspaper. "He actually had a book for negotiations... and knew exactly how

Gunman And Hostage Killed In US Bank Standoff

the negotiations would take place, the questions he would be asked." Ahmed initially took three bank employees hostage but released one woman after several hours, Mr Paxton said. The two wounded hostages were rushed to local hospitals but one of them later died, said State Police Sergeant Eric Cuenca. The other was in critical condition. The names of the hostages were not immediately released. Ahmed, the California-born son of Yemeni parents who owned a convenience store in the town, had complained of hearing voices, the police said. There was no indication of any link to recent threats of attacks on the US originating from Yemen, Mr Paxton said. The US earlier this month temporarily shut about 20 of its embassies and consulates in the Middle East and Africa, including its embassy in Yemen, and US nationals were told to leave that country after US officials said they picked up information about unspecified terrorist threats.

Asiana Airlines Inc. has offered $10,000 to each of the 288 surviving passengers of the flight that crash landed in San Francisco last month. Asiana spokeswoman Lee Hyomin said Tuesday the payout is not a settlement and accepting the money does not prevent passengers from suing the airline. Regardless of the degree of the injury, we are offering $10,000 to everyone, Lee said. There could be situations when the money is urgently needed and this could reduce inconveniences. The Asiana Boeing 777 landed short of the runway on July 6, killing three passengers and injuring dozens. There were 307 people on board, including 291 passengers. Lee said Asiana has already made payments to the families of three passengers who were killed. She did not know the amount.

A mother of one passenger said an Asiana manager contacted the family in Seoul by telephone last week offering $10,000. The family declined because the offer wasnt made in writing, no explanation on conditions was given and they feared accepting the payment would bar lawsuits. We said no on the phone. We felt offended and didnt want to accept, said Jeong Ouek-yoon, mother of passenger Kim Ye-rim. We didnt know whether there were conditions to the payment. South Korean news agency Yonhap said multiple crash survivors and their families had been made the offer in writing. The report said Asiana stipulated eight conditions but the company declined to disclose them citing their possible impact on future lawsuits.

Nurse's Body Found Hanging In Hostel

The body of a 24-year-old hospital nurse from Kerala was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a hostel Monday afternoon, said police. Vinita Sebastian's body was detected around 3.15 p.m. in the hostel of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in central Delhi's Rajendra Nagar area, police said. Sebastian had been working in the hospital for the last two years, police said. "No suicide note was recovered... the reason behind her extreme step is yet to be ascertained. Her colleagues are being questioned," said a police officer. The nurse did not report to work Monday, police said. "As she did not inform anyone about her leave, hospital staff were asked to inquire about her. They, along with the hostel authorities, went to her room and found her body hanging from the fan," said the officer.

Multicultural society What is multiculturalism? Multiculturalism exists when people accept and encourage many cultures to thrive in a society. Multiculturalism can lead to many great outcomes, including racial and ethnic harmony, which simply means that people from different backgrounds get along well together. Living with and accepting different cultures helps us understand each other and discourage hatred and violence. A long history of acceptance Canada officially became a multicultural society in 1971 when the government began to recognize the value and dignity of Canadians of all races and ethnic groups, all languages and all religions. At this time, the government also recognized the value and dignity of Aboriginal peoples and the equal status of Canadas two official languages: English and French. Diverse societies have much to offer Canada promotes multiculturalism by encouraging all Canadians to take part in all aspects of life. People of every race and ethnic background can

join in social, cultural, economic and political affairs. Everyone in Canada is equal. Everyone has a right to be heard. These rights are guaranteed through our Canadian Constitution and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Canada does not tolerate hatred Some people come to Canada with hatred or distrust toward a certain race or ethnic group. But promoting hatred is not allowed in Canada. Everyone has a right to preserve their own culture and we must also respect each others right to do the same. While Canada has experienced racial and ethnic tensions, most Canadians are fair-minded. They will accept and respect anyone who accepts and respects them. We celebrate religious freedom Almost every faith is represented in Canada. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects your freedom to practice your religion. That means you must be respectful of others beliefs as well. You have responsibilities As a newcomer to Canada, you will be

living in a multicultural environment which may require some adjustment. All citizens and residents are expected to obey Canadian laws, including the Canadian Constitution and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which forbid discrimination based on a persons ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age and mental or physical disabilities. In addition, newcomers are encouraged to learn one of Canadas two official languages, English or French. Family life Canada respects all types of families Family life in Canada is as diverse as its people. While many families are made up of two parents with children, there are many other types of families as well. In Canada, you may form the type of family that works best for you. For example, Canada has over one million single-parent families, with women heading most. There are hundreds of thousands of stepfamiliescreated when adults who already have children marry one anotherand many common-law unions (unmarried people who live

together) with and without children. Sometimes grandparents raise their grandchildren or uncles and aunts raise their nieces and nephews. Some parents adopt children. Other families are made up of same-sex couples, with or without children, and many couples have no children. Sometimes extended families live together, with parents, children, uncles, aunts, cousins and grandparents all living under one roof. It is common in Canada for two-parent families to have both parents working outside the home. Marriage and divorce Marriage in Canada Under Canadian law, marriage is a legal agreement between two people and may or may not have a religious significance. Marriage laws apply to everyone who lives in Canada and each person in a marriage is viewed as an equal partner under law.

Bus-To-Skytrain Transfers Costly Without Smart Card

Metro Vancouver bus passengers who now pay with cash and use a paper transfer to later board SkyTrain will find themselves paying double if they don't adopt the Compass card after the new payment system takes effect in 2014. TransLink says fare boxes on buses won't be able to issue paper tickets to cash-paying passengers that are compatible with the SkyTrain faregates. Passengers who try to use them will be forced to pay again at a SkyTrain station. Spokesman Derek Zabel predicts the vast majority of riders will use the Compass card and have no problem but concedes more public education will be needed. A compatible system on buses would have cost an extra $25 million. "It wasn't a cost-effective solution," he said. Bus-to-bus paper transfers will still work, as will SkyTrain-to-bus transfers it's only bus-to-SkyTrain transfers where tickets will be incompatible. An estimated 6,000 people a day use bus-to-SkyTrain paper transfers after paying cash. That's a small fraction of the more than 1.2 million daily transit trips, Zabel said, noting most riders already use a pass or some other form of pre-paid fare. While Compass cards are expected to roll out before the end of the year after an extensive testing period this fall both the new and the old system will work simultaneously for months before the faregates are fully activated. "We're not going to close the gates until people fully understand how to use the system," Zabel said. The cards are being configured to replicate existing payment offerings so users can load money on their card and buy the equivalent of a monthly pass or get a similar discount to the FareSaver prepaid ticket booklets by

buying ahead. Discounts will range up to 14 per cent, according to Zabel. TransLink expects passengers will flock to adopt the reloadable Compass card because of the convenience it will offer ending the need to go to a store to buy a monthly pass as well as other advantages like transfer of the balance if the card is lost or stolen. Gavin Davies, vice-president of the CAW union local representing Coast Mountain bus drivers, said there's concern angry passengers who are forced to pay again to board SkyTrain will take out their fury on bus drivers. "They're going to immediately retaliate against the next bus driver they see," he predicted, adding driver assaults could increase. The move was blasted by transit users on social media and an online petition has been started demanding TransLink abandon the "double transit fee." It's not the only change associated with the Compass card conversion that's drawing controversy. TransLink is also axing the Employer Pass Program that offered a 15 per cent discount to employees of participating employers. It was often coupled with employer-offered perks like preferential parking as a way to encourage more transit use while reducing the number of workplace parking stalls required. "It wasn't fair," Zabel said. "Some select people and groups were benefitting while other people weren't getting that same level of discount." TransLink says employer pass users can buy monthly passes now, but in many cases that may cost them more. TransLink will also phase out FareSaver prepaid tickets in January. Also being eliminated Jan. 1 is a policy of allowing free travel for family members of monthly pass holders on Sundays and holidays.

The Manitoba Funeral Service Association says the province may charge funeral homes a new service fee that would be passed on to the customer. The fee could range from $10 to $40 and it would help pay for more oversight in the industry. But some funeral home owners and managers are against any new fees. "We never want to have to charge any more than we have to, said Kevin Sweryd, director of the Bardal Funeral Home in Winnipeg. However, the province is denying that a new death tax will be imposed on Manitoba residents. There is no fee for funerals in Manitoba. There is no contemplation of implementing a fee in Manitoba for any funeral, said Consumer Affairs Minister Jim Rondeau.

Manitoba Funeral Homes Square Off 'Death Tax'

The province wants to audit funeral homes to ensure they are actually spending customers money on funeral services. It said its working with the industry to figure out how those audits will be paid for, but stressed that it wont allow any new funeral fees. Sweryd said he doesnt buy the provinces explanation. If you have a charge that you levy on a funeral that the family has no option of opting out of and it comes from the government -- a rose by any other name is still a rose, he said. The average cost of a traditional burial in Manitoba can cost anywhere between $7,000 and $10,000. The casket alone can cost thousands of dollars. A cremation with a service is less expensive, costing between $3,000 and $4,500.

Third copy of 'large Queen on laid paper' recently discovered

based in Toronto that recently examined the third copy. "A two cent large Queen was submitted to the Expert Committee in March 2013 showing laid lines in the paper," the centre said in a report released last month. "It was not an obvious fake. Accordingly considerable analysis has been undertaken to determine if it is genuine. If so it would be the third known genuine copy." 145-year-old stamp After months of analyzing 12 different aspects of the stamp, which was dated March 16, 1870 and had "creases and a tear," the centre declared it to be authentic. "They started issuing the two-centlarge-Queen in 1868," Grant Duff explained. "If it was dated 1870, might it have been a fake? It was too good to be true, basically, but they've determined it was a genuine example." According to Grant Duff, the 145-yearold stamp is so rare because it is an anomaly. The green-hued stamp, which features a profile portrait of Queen Victoria, was printed perhaps by mistake on "laid" paper commonly used for stationery, and has alternating light and dark lines at a time when printers were transitioning to "wove" paper. Grant Duff estimates between a hundred to 400 of the stamps were printed on laid paper. The two that were acquired by Eaton were both authenticated by the Royal Philatelic Society in London in 1935. Grant Duff helped Eaton sell one of his acquired examples in 1986 for approximately $90,000. They traded the second example, which was then sold to its current owner for about $200,000, he said. The Unitrade Canadian Stamp Catalogue estimates that the large Queen on laid would now be worth at least $250,000. However, Canadian stamp collector and business man Ron Brigham, who is selling his stamp collection this fall and who owns one example of the rare stamp, announced earlier this year it is valued at $1 million. "It's possible because it's so rare," Grant Duff said. "Even a third one being discovered probably doesn't hurt the market." Grant Duff, who has been collecting stamps since he was seven years old because he enjoys the "handfuls of history," said he hopes whoever now owns the third example of the large Queen on laid will keep it in collectors' hands, rather than donate it to a museum or a philatelic society. "If I'm really lucky, I'll get to handle the third one day," he said.

Rare Canadian Stamp Could Be Worth $1 Million

Vancouver-Bound Cruise Ship Stuck In Alaska

A Canada Two Cent Large Queen stamp on laid paper, Scott #32, is shown in a recent photo from the Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation. The recently discovered third known copy of the stamp is estimated by some to be worth as much as $1 million. Stamp enthusiast Brian Grant Duff remembers the thrill of handling what was, until recently, thought to be the only two examples of Canada's rarest stamp, the two cent "large Queen on laid paper." It's estimated by some to be worth as much as $1 million. Grant Duff was in his early 20s, and working for Vancouver dealer Daniel Eaton. Eaton obtained one example of the rare stamp from Britain's stamp and collectibles giant Stanley Gibbons in 1986, and the second one from Winnipeg stamp dealer Kasimir Bileski in 1993. For nearly 90 years, the two copies were the only ones known to exist. Grant Duff said he would carry one of Eaton's large Queen on laid in a case and display it at stamp shows around B.C. and in Ontario and Quebec, not fully realizing the risk of carrying something that could one day be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. "It was just a great opportunity for a young man in stamps," said the 48-yearold, who now runs his own collectibles shop in Vancouver. "Frankly, there hasn't been another highlight in my career to that degree since that time." So when Grant Duff heard recently that a third example of every Canadian stamp collector's wildest dream was discovered in a circuit book a book that contains stamps and is passed between collectors and dealers and bought earlier this year by an unnamed collector for roughly five dollars, he was gobsmacked. Apparently, so was the Vincent Graves Green Philatelic Research Foundation, a postal history research organization

Celebrity Cruises has offered full compensation for guests choosing to fly home rather than stay on board a stalled Vancouver-bound Alaskan cruise ship. The Celebrity Millennium limped into the Alaskan port of Seward last Friday, several hours behind schedule, due to an electrical problem with one of its two motors. The ship which can carry more than 2,100 passengers was supposed to begin a week-long Alaska cruise on Friday, bound for Vancouver.

But it will be port-bound for repairs, at which time the plan is to sail it directly to Vancouver, skipping all other ports of call and arriving early Friday morning. A statement from Celebrity Cruises says fewer than 100 guests have chosen to leave, the majority opting to lounge aboard the stationary ship until repairs are completed. Either way, the company has offered full refunds for all passengers, airfare and hotel compensation for those deciding to fly home, and half off a future cruise with the company.

Thieves Target Designer Eyewear In White Rock, B.C.

Glasses stolen and then sold in other provinces Optometry clinics in White Rock, B.C. have been forced to install extra security measures after they were repeatedly targeted by thieves. Dawn Scott, who works at the White Rock Optometry Clinic, says the clinic has had to absorb the cost of losing ten to 20 pairs of glasses a year. Scott says she has even tackled a thief to the ground. "Instinct took over, she said. We saw a young man put Gucci sunglasses in his pocket and when we confronted him, he headed for the door, so I headed after him and grabbed onto his coat and hung on as long as I could, screaming." Scott says thieves are also going after prescription eyeglass frames, which are then sold in other provinces. If they're stolen in Ontario and Quebec, then they're re-sold out here in British Columbia, she said. Frames have shown up and my reps have gone into the dealers and said, where did you get them? And they backtrack really quickly and say Here take them, we don't want any trouble'. Ebraham Francis, who supplies eyewear to the film industry and owns the Eyebar Optical and Sunglass Boutique in White Rock, says he has been robbed three times. "I was broken into in March of this year where they cleaned me out pretty well, he said. Took a lot of my designer sunglasses, some prescription frames and a little bit of equipment. How much merchandise was taken? Almost $50,000. Police have been called into investigate but say so far, they haven`t found a link between the robberies. "There are similar accounts in all the cases that a side window was either broken or removed in order to gain access," said RCMP Const. Janelle Shoihet. "That might indicate there might be a link that we can't verify at this point."

The rail operator whose tanker train blew up in a Quebec town last month, killing 47 people, will be shut down because the firm does not have enough insurance to pay clean-up costs and other damages. The Canadian transport regulator says it has ordered Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway's (MMA) local subsidiary to begin shutting down its operations a week after the company filed for bankruptcy protection. The closure comes as a result of that application revealing that MMA's insurance only covered liabilities of up to $27.6 million. The repairs and clean-up of the July 6 derailment, which destroyed parts of the town of Lac Megantic, are expected to cost more than $223 million. The Canadian transportation agency an independent government body that oversees railway insurance - said it had contacted MMA and its Canadian subsidiary to ensure they continued

to hold adequate third-party liability insurance. But the agency was not satisfied with the response, said Geoff Hare, CTA's chief executive officer. "It would not be prudent, given the risks associated with rail operations, to permit MMA and MMAC to continue to operate without adequate insurance coverage," Mr Hare said in a statement. MMA also faces a series of class-action lawsuits in Quebec and in the United States on behalf of the victims, as well as a notice of claim from a firm that is unable to ship from its Lac-Megantic production facilities. A spokeswoman for MMA chairman Ed Burkhardt said he was unaware of the agency's move. An estimated 5.6 million litres of oil were spilled in the crash, which was the worst of its kind in North America in two decades. It happened when the train started moving after it had been parked for

the night a few kilometres outside LacMegantic. Mr Burkhardt said last month he

doubted whether the engineer had set enough handbrakes after parking the train.

Kamloops Family Gets Snake Scare

Students In BC Carry Largest Amount Of Debt In Canada

Federation of Students wants grants program restored
A group representing students is worried that if education doesnt become more affordable in BC it could hurt the future workforce. It comes as we find out from a new BMO survey that students in BC expect to graduate with the highest amount of debt in the country. The Federation of Students wants the grants program restored, it was taken away in 2004. The grants program is assessed based on what the need is for the student and the money they have available to finance their education. It does benefit students from lower income backgrounds and those are the folks who have the most difficulty finding the money up front to pay for tuition fees, says Jessica McCormick with the group. She also thinks more money needs to be given to the post-secondary institutions so tuition can be lowered. The public institutions themselves are working on shoestring budgets as a result of lack of funding from the provincial government. They have to find a way to make ends meet and unfortunately that results in increasing tuition fees to make up the difference, she says. The survey found, on average in Canada, students think theyll have $26,297 to pay back when they graduate. But here in BC its a lot higher at $34,886.

Vancouver Council Approves Lock-Off Suites In Parts Of City

A Kamloops family got a little creeped out by an unexpected visitor that dropped in over the weekend. Wendy Noonan's nephew found what the family believed was a small rattlesnake slithering in their basement kitchen sink. Noonan says she thinks the snake came into the house through an open basement window. Her husband used barbecue tongs to move it into a glass container. "When we put him in the jar, he was really quite attacking the plastic, and my husband said, 'You know he doesn't look like a good snake,' she said laughing. A Kamloops naturalist who viewed a photo of the critter says it was actually a Great Basin Gopher Snake, which is non-venomous. But Frank Ritcey said the gopher snake often mimics rattlesnakes' movements when threatened. Gopher snakes (like most animals) can be aggressive and will strike out when captured. The gopher snake will even rapidly vibrate its tail to mimic a rattle, and when done so in dry leaves and grass it sounds quite convincing. The Kamloops area is home to six species of snake, including the rattlesnake and gopher snake. Only the rattlesnake is venomous, but they seldom bite humans, and that's usually only when people try to handle them or get too close, Ritcey said.

New bylaw approved for the Norquay area

Vancouver is trying to make it more affordable for renters and owners in the city. A new bylaw is being given the goahead by Vancouver City Council, allowing lock-off suites in the Norquay area. Brian Jackson with the City of Vancouver says the suites let an owner separate a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen in an apartment or townhouse and rent it as a separate unit. Youd buy a two-bedroom apartment and

one of those bedrooms would have its own entrance into the hallway with its own small kitchen and its own small bathroom. He says theyre already in use in Surrey and Burnaby and the idea is popular with developers. It is a marketing tool and they have to be able to take advantage of it. We are trying to fire on all cylinders so that were addressing the issue of affordability and the availability of housing alternatives, he adds.

Smoking is very bad for your teen's health and it is not cool to do. It contains about 4000 harmful chemicals that can impact health on a teen and can cause serious health problems in the future. Here are some helpful pointers that you can use to help your teen to kick the smoking habit. 1. When your teen wants to quit smoking, tell your teen to put it in writing. Have him or her write all the reasons why he or she wants to quit smoking such as saving money or gaining stamina for playing sports. When your teen is finished with this list, tell him or her to put the list in a place where it can be seen so your teen can add new ideas later on.

How To Help Your Teen Quit Smoking

disappear and if your teen smoked in his or her car its always a good idea to clean that out as well and get rid of the smoke triggers. 5. Guide your teen to figure out what triggers his or her urge to smoke and make changes such as if your teen and his or her friends usually smoke in restaurants tell your teen to eat in the non-smoking section of the restaurant or tell your teen to substitute something else for cigarettes such as lollipops, toothpicks, mints, gum and carrot sticks. 6. Expect your teen to experience physical symptoms of withdrawal while trying to give up smoking such as: Lack of energy, headaches, depression, stomach aches, jumpiness, crabbiness, dry mouth or sore throat and desires to pig out. These symptoms will pass so don't worry. 7. Tell your teen to keep active. The more distracted your teen is, the less likely he or she would crave a cigarette. Your teen should keep his or her energy up and keep his or her weight down.

2. Inspire your teen to set a quit date and mark it on a calendar. Have your teen pick a day that he or she can use as a target day to actually give up smoking all together. Tell your teen that this day would act as a dividing line between the smoker you and the new and improved non-smoker you will become.

3. Tell your teen to throw away all the cigarettes along with your ashtrays and lighters. Your teen wouldn't be able to quit smoking with cigarettes still lying around.

8. If you teen slips up, don't let him or her give up. Your teen may quit for a few weeks and then have cravings that are so strong he or she may feel that they have to give in. Remind your teen how far he or she has gotten and not to lose momentum and it was just one mistake. Tell your teen that slipping up with just one cigarette is not being a smoker again. 9. Tell your teen to reward him or herself. Quitting smoking is never, ever easy. If your teen is tobacco free for a few weeks, have your teen treat themselves to a new CD, books, movies or some clothes and for every smoke free year, inspire your teen to reward him or herself because he or she deserves it.

4. Wash all your teens clothes so that the smell of cigarettes would

Geat Reasons To Drink Water

Weight loss Water is one of the best tools for weight loss, first of all because it often replaces high-calorie drinks like soda and juice and alcohol with a drink that doesn't have any calories. But it's also a great appetite suppressant, and often when we think we're hungry, we're actually just thirsty. Water has no fat, no calories, no carbs, no sugar. Drink plenty to help your weight-loss regimen. Heart healthy Drinking a good amount of water could lower your risks of a heart attack. A sixyear study published in the May 1, 2002 American Journal of Epidemiology found that those who drink more than 5 glasses of water a day were 41% less likely to die from a heart attack during the study period than those who drank less than two glasses. Energy Being dehydrated can sap your energy and make you feel tired -- even mild dehydration of as little as 1 or 2 percent of your body weight. If you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated -- and this can lead to fatigue, muscle weakness, dizziness and other symptoms. Headache cure Another symptom of dehydration is headaches. In fact, often when we have headaches it's simply a matter of not drinking enough water. There are lots of other causes of headaches of course, but dehydration is a common one. Healthy skin Drinking water can clear up your skin and people often report a healthy glow after drinking water. It won't happen overnight, of course, but just a week of drinking a healthy amount of water can have good effects on your skin. Digestive problems Our digestive systems need a good amount of water to digest food properly. Often water can help cure stomach acid problems, and water along with fiber can cure constipation (often a result of dehydration). Cleansing Water is used by the body to help flush out toxins and waste products from the body. Cancer risk Related to the digestive system item above, drinking a healthy amount of water has also been found to reduce the risk of colon cancer by 45%. Drinking lots of water can also reduce the risk of bladder cancer by 50% and potentially reduce the risk of breast cancer. Better exercise Being dehydrated can severely hamper your athletic activities, slowing you down and making it harder to lift weights

All berries have high concentrations of antioxidants to help fight off flu viruses, but blueberries pack the most punch: When tested against other foods, blueberries were found to have more antioxidants than 40 other fruits and vegetables. Eat at least one serving (1/2 cup or 125 mL) of raw berries every day to help you stay healthy during the flu season. If you cant find fresh berries during the colder months, stock up on the frozen variety. Eating frozen berries isnt as good as eating them fresh, but its better than eating them cooked. A study has claimed that when kids were diagnosed of having some kind of cancer at age 18 or younger, the risk to their parents, siblings, or children for childhood cancer doubled. The study, led by Joshua Schiffman, M.D., medical director of Huntsman Cancer Institute's High Risk Pediatric Cancer Clinic and a pediatric hematologist/oncologist in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah, examined the family medical history of 4,482 children diagnosed with cancer over a 43-year period to determine the cancer risk in their relatives. The research team found that if the cancer diagnosis came when the child was age 4 or less, the risk to close relatives for childhood cancer increased almost four times. Lead author Karen Curtin, Ph.D., a genetic epidemiologist and UPDB assistant director, said that because the data came from the UPDB, the assessment of family history in our study does not rely on self- or family-

reported medical history. She said that self-reporting of family medical history depends on an individual's memory, while their data comes from the statewide Utah Cancer Registry that records nearly all cancer cases, which reduces possible errors in reporting family cancers. The team also assessed known inherited genetic syndromes in adult relatives of pediatric cancer patients. They found cancers associated with Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS) seemed to be driving the increased risk to relatives in families with a history of cancer. Schiffman said that not all children's cancers are hereditary but the numbers in the study suggest that the proportion of hereditary childhood cancers may be significantly higher than the 5-10 percent generally cited in adult hereditary cancers, and likely even more than 20 percent. The data analyzed in this study indicated that outcomes for pediatric cancer patients are worse in families with a history of cancer.

Here is a new excuse for older chocoholics to treat their cravings, as researchers have found that drinking two cups of hot chocolate a day may help them keep their brains healthy and sharp. The study conducted by Harvard Medical School in Boston involved 60 people with an average age of 73 who did not have dementia. The participants drank two cups of hot cocoa per day for 30 days and did not consume any other chocolate during the study. They were given tests of memory and thinking skills. They also had ultrasounds tests to measure the amount of blood flow to the brain during the tests. Of the 60 participants, 18 had impaired blood flow at the start of the study. How To Maintain Regular Sleep Pattern For Kids Revealed

A doctor of paediatrics has offered some tips on how to get your kids to sleep at a regular time interval. Shalini Paruthi, M.D., assistant professor of pediatrics and a SLUCare sleep expert at Saint Louis University, said that if kids don't go to sleep on time, they tend to wake up late and not be ready for bed on time the next night. She said that sleep deprivation can also cause them to lose focus and make more mistakes at school. First tip that she gave was that it is really important for parents to wake them up at their usual school time a few days before school starts to make them accustomed. She said that once kids are up at their usual school time, parents should have activities lined up to keep them busy throughout the day, so they don't nap during the day. The third tip that she offered was that parents should put away electronics at least 30 minutes before bed, as the light on the screen can inhibit the production of melatonin and using electronic devices can stimulate brain activities, which could make it difficult to fall asleep. She said that having a bedtime routine such as taking a shower, changing into pajamas, brushing teeth and listening to a bedtime story are good bedtime routine activities that can help a child fall asleep, asserting that a 15-minute bedtime routine is ideal. Parents should also avoid using bedtime as a punishment, as the child could develop a bad association with going to sleep. Paruthi also insisted that the bedtime pass concept - should be used where two handmade decorated cards are given to the kids, which the can use each time they need to speak with a parent or get out of bed and if they are able to keep one or both passes until morning, then each pass can be redeemed for an incentive. She said that a parent should pay attention if their kids are having difficult sleeping even after all the above ideas have been tried.

A new study has found that the food and beverages consumed regularly by pregnant women contain toxins believed to pose potential risks to developing fetuses. Researchers at the University of California, Riverside suggest that health care providers must do more to counsel their patients about the dangers of hidden toxins in the food supply. A team of psychologists from UC Riverside and UC San Diego found that the diets of pregnant Hispanic women included tuna, salmon, canned foods, tap water, caffeine, alcohol and overthe-counter medications that contain substances known to cause birth defects. The study is unique in that it highlights the unseen dangers of consuming toxins in food and beverages that are

no improvement for those who started out with regular blood flow. The people with impaired blood flow also improved their times on a test of working memory, with scores dropping from 167 seconds at the beginning of the study to 116 seconds at the end. There was no change in times for people with regular blood flow. A total of 24 of the participants also had MRI scans of the brain to look for tiny areas of brain damage. The scans found that people with impaired blood flow were also more likely to have these areas of brain damage. Half of the study participants received hot cocoa that was rich in the antioxidant flavanol, while the other half received flavanol-poor hot cocoa. There were no differences between the two groups in the results.

oily fish such as salmon and trout, selectively inhibit growth and induce cell death in early and late-stage oral and skin cancers, a new study suggests. In vitro tests showed omega-3 fatty acids induced cell death in malignant and pre-malignant cells at doses which did not affect normal cells, suggesting they have the potential to be used in both the treatment and prevention of certain skin and oral cancers. It also contributes to the body of literature aimed at assessing dietary habits of both Hispanic and nonHispanic pregnant women. "Unlike alcohol and nicotine, which carry a certain stigma along with surgeon general warnings on the packaging, tuna, canned foods, caffeine, and a handful of other foods and beverages with associated developmental effects are not typically thought of as unsafe," Santiago said. "Hopefully, this study will encourage health care providers to keep pregnant women well informed as to the possible dangers of unhealthy consumption habits," she said.

The scientists at Queen Mary, University of London were studying a particular type of cancer called squamous-cell carcinoma (SCC). Squamous cells are the main part of the outermost layers of the skin, and SCC is one of the major forms of skin cancer. However, squamous cells also occur in the lining of the digestive tract, lungs, and other areas of the body. Oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC) are the sixth most common cancer worldwide and are difficult and very expensive to treat.

'Chennai Express' Climbs Box Office Chart In US Ranks At 13th

Kabir Khan whose last film Ek Tha Tiger was about the life of a RAW agent is all set to cast Saif Ali Khan in a film about post 26/11 counter-terrorism. The film is to be written by Hussain Zaidi, the prominent crime writer whose scrupulously researched books have earlier been the basis of Anurag Kashyap's Black Friday and Sanjay Gupta's Shootout At Wadala. This wouldn't be the first film Saif would be doing on global terrorism. He has earlier done Rensil d'Silva's Kurbaan where he played a terrorist. In Kabir's film that Sajid Nadiadwala will produce, Saif crosses over to the other

But the politics of this film would be far more topical. ` Saif, we have come to know from reliable sources, would be required to undertake remarkable research to get his data on counter-insurgency right. Says the source, `It's a different world for Saif and producer Sajid Nadiadwala. Sajid has only done mass entertainers so far. `

Bhai Heartbroken: Parents Make 'No Father Will Give His Daughter Salman Break Up With Iulia Vantur! To Aftab After Seeing Grand Masti'
Sources say it was at his parents' insistence that Salman Khan has split with alleged sweetheart Iulia Vantur

Salman Khan's love life has always created as many headlines as his films. And if rumours are to be believed the star has ended his alleged romance with his Romanian girlfriend Iulia Vantur. And interestingly, it's being said that it was at his parents' insistence that Salman decided to call it quits. Ever since his break-up with his alleged girlfriend Katrina Kaif, Salman had moved on with Iulia, an actress and TV presenter. The star was believed to be quite smitten with her as he allegedly even gave her a place to stay in Mumbai. But constant buzz about her being previously married started causing ripples in the Khan family. A source says, `Iulia apparently is married to a Grammy nominated musician Marius Moga. When she was

confronted about it, she kept denying the allegations. That was when Salman's family decided to step in and take charge of the situation.` And as more and more information about Iulia's past was unearthed, the Khan family apparently decided it was best if the couple parted ways. Those close to the star say that even though he had already received his visa for London, Salman stayed back in the city to sort the matter out with his family. `He was spotted spending Eid alone with close friend Baba Siddiqui for company at a restaurant and then at a club,` adds the source.' And Iulia who had earlier accompanied Salman to Hyderabad during the shoot of Sohail Khan's upcoming film is believed to have packed her bags and gone back to Romania.

Actor Vivek Oberoi feels that his co-star Aftab Shivdasani in 'Grand Masti' may remain a bachelor as any girl would shy away from marrying him after watching him in the movie

'Grand Masti', an adult comedy, is the sequel to 2004 hit comedy 'Masti', which starred Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani. The three are now back in the sequel. "

Which girl would agree to marry him after watching 'Grand Masti'? No father will give away his daughter to Aftab after this film releases," Vivek said. Directed by Indra Kumar, 'Grand Masti' is a double edged comedy about three married men. It showcases the fun and adventures they have during their college reunion. Thanks To Imran, Shahid Reunites With Ex Priyanka

With Imran Khan opting out of Ekta Kapoor's next, Shahid Kapoor could be paired opposite his ex Priyanka Chopra in the film Looks like Imran Khan's loss is Shahid Kapoor's gain. With Imran walking out of Ekta Kapoor's next, the makers are said to have roped in Shahid Kapoor in his place. Incidentally, the film co-stars Sasha's ex Priyanka Chopra. Sources say since Imran was keener to work in Vikramaditya Motwane's upcoming film that will portray him as a Gujarati superhero, and hence opting out of Ekta's project to be helmed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. A source says, `Imran was initially kicked about Ekta's film. However, the dates for the film were tossed around more than three times and a lot of time was spent looking for the leading lady until PC was finalised. In the meanwhile, Imran signed Motwane's next and he wants to be completely involved in it. He and Ekta parted on amicable terms. Shahid was then approached to step into his shoes. It will be interesting to see his on screen chemistry with his former girlfriend.` Industry insiders say that perhaps this was the reason why Sasha attended Ekta's bash for Lootera. Shahid, Ekta, Imran and Tigmanshu remained unavailable for comment.

When Manoj Bajpai joined the industry there were few films written for actors like him. However, the new wave of cinema has meant more exciting work for this actor who will be seen next in Prakash Jha's upcoming film and the Hindi remake of the Malayalam hit Traffic CS speaks to Manoj Bajpai about his image, career and turning producer. Grey is good I am an out and out villain in Prakash Jha's film. I don't like playing that because villains are completely black, I prefer some grey shades to a character. I like to choose roles which interest me. Having said that, it's hard to refuse the new-age directors as they have a great script-sense. It's taken me 20 years to get the kind of roles I am looking for. It's a good time for cinema and I can proudly say that I have made my contribution to bringing it to this stage. Image conscious Nobody asks Al Pacino or Robert De Niro as to why they aren't doing diverse roles. I don't understand the notion of diversity being a benchmark of excellence in acting in Bollywood. I don't feel the need to do a romantic or a comedy just to prove that I am a fine actor. I am a serious actor because I take my job seriously and deliver the goods. Donning the producer's hat I want to produce films but my overcommitment to acting is what's

I Am Dying To Act With My Wife Shabana: Manoj Bajpai

stopping me from going ahead. I can't take up a task for a lark. Even if I get a two months break from acting, I will produce a film. As for the kind of films I will produce, I am not one to bank scripts but am keen on seeing what these new directors have on mind. Building bonds Prakash (Jha) and I are not of the same age to be friends but do we share a comfort level. We have high expectations from each other. I can't take our rapport for granted. I don't know whether I will work with him again because I live for today and it goes against my personality to think whether we will work in the future. I was humbled when Nawaz (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) called me 'the best actor in the country'. I took it as a compliment because it came from someone like him. Biwi Ho Toh Aisi Shabana (Neha) is a hands-on mother and she's doing a great job of bringing up our three-year-old daughter Ava Nayla single-handedly. I don't get much time to devote to Ava. She's one of the best-looking women around, and is intelligent as well. I am really trying to get her to take a break from her routine and do an acting assignment. I am dying to act with her too, it will be fun bringing home to the sets. Yes, I do miss Shabana as she cannot accompany me on my shoots because of the baby.

At The Movies Elysium (PG) * * * Lock Down!

Shades of grey are the least of the concerns confronting a man in a bind in Elysium. Fresh and sincere Vancouver-educated director Neill Blomkamp again hits the mark in this classy Columbia Pictures release now inspiring freedom lovers at the Empire Esplanade Theatre, Empire Studio 12, Colossus and Cineplex Odeon theatres around B.C. Hot off the headlines Blomkamp pens this smart look at the social divide now plaguing much of the world. Here we have the have and have nots in the future. Target year 2154 sees the world as we know it divided into two camps: Earth and Elysium. Down on Earth the people are poor, sick and with no hope. Contrast their lives to those in the planet Elysium, which is a tropical paradise where the rick live, stay and grow. No illness reaches Elysium as the trapped people in Earth must endure a military like rule with no hope. Thrust into this Max, a maligned simple labourer with a dream to live on. Cast in another heroic role is Matt Damon (The Bourne Identity). Trouble goes where Max heads and hes a determined cowboy to cleanse himself by getting to Elysium - at all costs. Meanwhile, up in the sky Elysium is hounded by all sorts of political and militaristic machinations. In a possible Oscar nomination Jodie Foster (The Silence of The Lambs) reigns supreme as Madame Delacourt, a power hungry minister of defence out to make quite the impression on everyone. Power is in her blood as she hatches a wicked plot to rule the universe. Suspenseful from start to finish, this 109 minute science fiction fantasy is full of style and has a gritty feel to it. Edge of your seats fights and loads of close encounters turn this ticking time bomb of a movie into a rousing first rate thriller. Damon again turns in a bravado performance showing lots

Oprah Winfrey has reportedly apologized for the speaking to a television reporter during promotion of her new movie, 'The Butler', about the perceived racism she felt when a sales associate at an upscale shop in Zurich declined to let her see a pricey handbag estimated at 40,000 dollars. As per sources, Winfrey apologized for the incident having been blown out of proportion, the Washington Times reported.

The saleswoman at the shop had denied the 59-year old talk show host's versions of events, saying she never suggested the icon couldn't afford the item. The associate as well as the shop owner had apologized and now the actress, who is among the richest African-Americans of the 20th century, has said sorry. Winfrey reportedly earned 77 million dollars in the year that ended in June, Forbes reported.

'Friends' co-stars Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston are no longer friends, it has been revealed. According to sources, the two Hollywood starlets who were once very close friends have been missing a series of key events in each other's lives, News.com.au reported. Sources revealed that the friendship deteriorated after Cox separated from her husband David Arquette, who is a close friend of Aniston, in 2010. The 'Scream' series actress has been absent from the 'Horrible Bosses' actress's Chateau Marmont 43rd

birthday party, her engagement party to Justin Theroux and, most recently, the bash Aniston threw for her fiance's birthday, which have fuelled the rumors of their estranged relation. Aniston, who played Rachel Greene in the Friends series is godmother to Cox's daughter Coco. But recently the distance between the two has increased manifold. Cox, who played Monica Geller in the hit series, had reportedly helped Aniston get through her divorce from Brad Pitt in 2005 and together spent several holidays in Mexico.

To India With Love Commemorating Independence Day 2013

Celebrating, commemorating and marking 67th anniversary of Indias independence on 15 August, 2013.
Fiji today. But he failed to do so at his peril. There was one very important lesson for Fijis Prime Minister and his group from the Indian visit. India is the only country on the planet where no Fijian Prime Minister would be able to sell the 'Indigenous Race Card' to justify Fijian nationalism, racism, and exclusive political control of the country. Fijis nationalists leaders and others around the world should gain immensely from Indian history and way of life. Those Anglo Saxons, Europeans and other ignorant people who still regard India as a land of snake charmers and rope tricks need to see Akshay Kumars Bollywood movie Namaste London. (Greetings to London) They need to get a translation of the episode where the hero shuts up the great grandson of an English East Indian Company employee who was running down India and its people. By clasping his hands, Akshay says that when we Indians greet each other in the tradition of 5,000 year old civilization, we fold our hands close to heart in Namaste (greetings) because we believe that God resides in the heart of every human being. We come from a nation where we allow a lady of Catholic Religion (Sonia Gandhi) to step aside for a Sikh (Manmohan Singh) to be sworn as the Prime Minister by a Muslim President (Abdul Kalam) to govern a nation with over 80% Hindus. Today I take this opportunity to congratulate my Grand Motherland, India on the occasion of its 67th Independence Day celebration on 15 August, 2013. I do this with an open and clean heart despite being defamed by some Indian leaders and media as a failed journalist because of the truth I speak about India without fear and favour. I am third generation Indo Fijian, displaced from India when my grandfather was torn and tricked from his roots by British to slave in Fiji to fill their coffers. When Fijis deposed Prime Minister Qarase visited India about a decade ago, he failed to learn anything from Indian hospitality. The uncrowned father of Indian movies, Raj Kapoor immortalized this aspect of Indian culture in his film, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Baheti Hai (the land where Ganges flows) with this song .Mehmaan jo hamara hota hai, woh jaan se pyara hota hai, i... hum us desh ke waasi hai jis desh mein Ganga baheti hai... His song translates to say that we value our visitors more than our life; we do not lust or greed for much as we manage in little that we have... We hail from the land where the Ganges flows. And from that land if Qarase had learnt that language of Indian love of all inclusiveness, he may still be ruling

The 2013 Chevrolet Traverse receives multiple changes this year, including refreshed exterior styling, improved interior materials, a new electronics interface and new safety features. Introduction From outward appearances, the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse looks almost fully redesigned. Gone is the signature Chevy split grille, replaced by a nose that looks more at home on a large sedan. The new design may lack personality, but it has a slimming effect that makes its predecessor look bloated by comparison. With a sharper, more defined tailgate and angled lights, the same holds true for the rear of this large crossover. The interior also received the nip/ tuck treatment, with sculpted surfaces and shapes integrated more fluidly into the overall design, and additional features including a standard rearview camera and Chevrolet's new MyLink infotainment interface at the driver's disposal. Similar to MyFord Touch, the MyLink system provides a wealth of audio, navigation and other system control through a simple touchscreen. The rest of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse remains unchanged and that's a good thing. Interior cargo capacity continues to be a top draw, with an impressive 116 cubic feet available behind the first-row seats. We like the way the Traverse drives, too, as its comfortable ride quality and 281-horsepower V6 put this big Chevy right at home on city streets and on the highway. Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options With seating for up to eight passengers, the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse is classified as a large crossover SUV. It is offered in four trim levels: LS, 1LT, 2LT and LTZ. Standard features on the LS Traverse include 17-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, roof rails, cruise control, front and rear air-conditioning, keyless entry, full power accessories, cloth upholstery, 60/40 split-folding third-row seats, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a trip computer, Bluetooth, OnStar telematics, a 6.5inch touchscreen display, a rearview camera and a six-speaker audio system with a CD player, USB/auxiliary audio inputs, and satellite and HD radio. Steeping up to the 1LT trim adds 18inch alloy wheels, foglights, heated mirrors, rear parking sensors, remote ignition, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, wood grain interior trim and an eight-way power driver seat with power lumbar adjustments. On top of that, the 2LT tacks on power-folding mirrors, an auto-dimming driver-side and rearview mirror, a power rear liftgate, tri-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and the MyLink infotainment interface (voice activation, Bluetooth audio connectivity and smartphone radio app integration). The range-topping LTZ trim includes 20-inch wheels, a blind-spot

monitoring system, a rear cross-traffic alert system, second-row captain's chairs (reducing seating capacity to seven), leather upholstery, a 10-way power driver seat with power lumbar adjustments, driver memory functions, an eight-way power front passenger seat, ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel. As comprehensive as this list is, there isn't a lot of room for options. Available on the 2LT and LTZ trims are a navigation system and a 10-speaker Bose surround-sound system. All but the LS trim can also opt for a dual-panel sunroof, rear-seat DVD entertainment center with USB input and a 110-volt household power outlet. Powertrains and Performance Powering most 2013 Chevrolet Traverse models is a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 281 hp and 266 pound-feet of torque. The LTZ trim features twin exhaust outlets that increase output to 288 hp and 270 pound-feet. A sixspeed automatic is the only available transmission, but buyers can choose front- or all-wheel drive. The EPA estimates fuel economy at 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway and 19 mpg in combined driving for the front-drive Traverse and 16/23/19 mpg for the allwheel-drive model -- average results for crossovers in this class.

Safety Standard safety features on all 2013 Chevy Traverse models include fourwheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a rearview camera, front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags for all three rows. OnStar is also standard and includes automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, remote door unlocking, stolen vehicle assistance and turn-by-turn navigation. An inboard driver-seat side airbag that helps protect front occupants from colliding into each other in the event of a side impact is optional on the LS trim and standard on all others. A blind-spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring system is only available on the top LTZ trim. Interior Design and Special Features The 2013 Chevrolet Traverse features an attractive new interior, but a few flaws detract from an otherwise

successful effort. Most touch-surfaces are decently padded, but the quality of the materials lacks a premium look and feel. Drivers will also notice poor rearward visibility, particularly in reverse. Fortunately, the standard rearview camera provides a clear and comprehensive view. The rearview monitor and all infotainment functions are controlled by a touchscreen display in the dash, but the screen itself is mounted low in the driver's sight line, and requires a longer glance away from the road ahead. The MyLink interface, which allows smartphone radio app integration, features a clean layout and intuitive menu structure. Touch inputs are occasionally slow or missed entirely, however, making the interface a bit frustrating. We're also not fond of the USB port placement in a dashtop bin where direct sun and high temperatures can bake electronics. Front-row passengers will enjoy abundant head- and legroom, as will second-row occupants, but the middlerow seat cushions are a bit low. Sliding those seats all the way back alleviates this issue, but that effectively kills third-row legroom. The slide release is also difficult to access. The narrow, flat third-row seats are easily deployed and stowed, but are really suited to kids and smaller adults. The Traverse scores points for generous cargo capacity. Even with the thirdrow seats in place, the Traverse can carry up to 24.4 cubic feet of luggage. That figure jumps to 70.3 cubes with the rearmost seats folded flat and a cavernous 116.3 cubes with the second row stowed. Driving Impressions Overall, the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse delivers a smooth and quiet highway ride. On curves and passes, the big SUV minimizes body roll and feels more secure and planted than you expect. The V6 engine generates good horsepower, but lacks punch and tends to sound harsh and unrefined under acceleration -- an indication of the mass it's tasked to carry. The thin steering wheel also feels a little outdated and the transmission is slow to react, though gearchanges are smooth. Whether running errands in the suburbs or traveling the interstates, the Traverse is well suited to delivering several people in comfort or cargo in abundance. Despite its dimensions, it maneuvers well in tight parking lots -it's just harder to see out of than most competitors.

Researchers have found just thinking about being stressed can make individuals fall seriously ill and even increase the chance of suffering a heart attack. It was found, while following more than 7,000 civil servants over a period of up to 18 years, how the increased perception of stress almost doubled the risk of suffering a heart attack. The is the first time a link has been discovered between heart disease and people's own view on how stress is affecting their health. It suggests the doctors should take a patients' perspective into account when managing stress-related complaints. It could also mean that helping patients to unwind can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Participants, who had an average age

Even Thinking Of Stress Can Make You Sick

Fruit Juicing
The values and benefits of fresh fruit juicing.
How to use juices successfully in your journey to prevent and reverse degenerative diseases. Live FoodThe Life In Your Food Each one of us are given only this one body. We alone are responsible to nourish our body and keep it healthy for as long as possible. We all know that without health, all the money we have accumulated on this earth will amount to nothing. Whatever you put into your mouth, let it be that you consume more nutritious foods than the harmful foods. Nutritious foods are natural, whole, pure and fresh. The closer food is to its natural state, the higher its nutritional value. These nutritious qualities of the foods are what give life to your body. Always choose pure, natural and whole foods over refined, bleached, polished, and processed foods with preservatives, artificial colors/flavors, or chemical additives of any kind. The Wonders Of Fruits I believe fresh fruits are God's provision of the finest and best sources of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, phytonutrients and anti-oxidants that our bodies need. Most fruits have very high concentration of one kind or another vitamin or mineral that our bodies so crave. When we regularly consume a variety of fruits, it provides the vitamins, minerals and enzymes our bodies need to keep it in its most optimum form. God created our bodies to be selfbuilding, self-repairing and selfrejuvenating. When we fail to nourish it with poor choices of food, when we are stressed, when we live an unhealthy lifestyle, and when we abuse our bodies by addiction or even because of the polluted air we inhale, the cells in our body start to deteriorate. This is when the ugly degenerative diseases surface. And this is when fruits help. But why wait till it's too late? Start making wise choices now concerning your health. Choose to live healthy. But, if disease has already shown its ugly face, then fight it with the very "miracle foods" that God has givenfruits! But Why Juice? There are many good reasons why you should juice. I'm not advocating that you should juice all your fruits and vegetables. What I do suggest is that you drink juices regularly, on top of your intake of other fruits and vegetables. Here are only some of the reasons: Juicing helps to "pre-digest" your food. As a result of our poor food choices over the years, most of us have bodies which have become weak in absorbing the nutrients that we need. Juicing "pre-digest" the fruits so that they are readily digested and assimilated before it gets eliminated from our body. You will need one or two pounds of fruits daily to obtain the optimum level of nutrients needed for your body. By juicing, it allows you to accomplish this easily. You don't want to be eating so much fruits that it makes you sick of fruits. Moreover, this would violate the principle of regular food rotation and increase your chance of developing an allergy towards a certain kind of food. True, that our ancestors didn't have to eat/drink so much fruits and vegetables, but in their time, they didn't have to hassle with industrial chemicals, polluted environment and poor dietary nor poor lifestyles. Juicing removes indigestible fiber The nutrients we are after, are trapped in indigestible fiber. For example, when you eat a carrot, you are only able to assimilate 1% of the beta-carotene. But wonder of wonders, when you juice, you are able to assimilate nearly 100% of the beta-carotene! Easy digestion and assimilation Solid foods require many hours of digestion before any nutrient is made available to the cells. Juices are assimilated within 15 minutes of consumption, with very little effort on the part of the digestive system. Because in its liquid form, the enzymes are not wasted to fuel its own digestion. As a result, the body can quickly distribute the much needed enzymes to other parts of the body to heal, build, restore and repair. Juices are cleansing Only with sufficient amount of nutrients in the fruits through juicing, can the juices be cleansing to the blood. Blood is life. By keeping our blood clean and loaded with nutrients, we can expect to live better and longer.

of 49.5, were asked to what extent they felt day-to-day stress had affected their health. Besides taking their medical background into account, they were also asked about personal lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, diet, and exercise. Lead author Hermann Nabi, from the Inserm medical research institute in Villejuif, France, said: "We found that the association we observed between an individual's perception of the impact of stress on their health and their risk of a heart attack was independent of biological factors, unhealthy behaviours and other psychological factors. "One of the important messages from our findings is that people's perceptions about the impact of stress on their health are likely to be correct."

If you are healthy and plan to start running for the first time, it is perfectly all right to put on a pair of completely ordinary 'neutral' running shoes without any special support, according to new research from Aarhus University. Ordinary running shoes function perfectly well for new runners regardless of how they pronate. Even though your feet overpronate when you run - i.e. roll inwards. There appears to be no risk that overpronation or underpronation can lead to running injuries through using neutral shoes for this special group of healthy beginners. Researchers have followed 927 healthy novice runners with different pronation types for a full year. All study participants received the same model of neutral running shoe, regardless of whether they had neutral foot pronation or not. During the study period, 252 people suffered an injury, and the runners ran a total of 163,401 km. The study found that the risk of injury

Ordinary Running Shoes May Not Increase Risk Of Injuries

was the same for runners after the first 250 km, irrespective of their pronation type. It further found that the number of injuries per 1,000 km of running was significantly lower among runners who over/underpronate than among those with neutral foot pronation. The finding contradicts the current assumption that over/underpronation in the foot leads to an increased risk of running injury if you run in a neutral pair of running shoes. "We have now compared runners with neutral foot pronation with the runners who pronate to varying degrees, and our findings suggest that overpronating runners do not have a higher risk of injury than anyone else," said physiotherapist and PhD student Rasmus O. Nielsen from Aarhus University, who has conducted the study together with a team of researchers from Aarhus University, Aarhus University Hospital, Aalborg University Hospital and the Netherlands.

Home Remedies For Glowing Skin

Natural remedies have been used for ages in skin care rituals. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables is an excellent way to promote internal health, but did you know that some kitchen ingredients can work wonders for skincare while being natural and cost effective?

Most of us blame dark circles on lack of sleep, exhaustion or staring at the computer screen for hours. But the truth goes deeper than those dark pools you've tried so hard to fight. Experts and studies have linked dark circles to graver problems like anemia, liver disease and dehydration. Dr. Satish Mehta, Ophthalmologist from Moolchand Eye Clinic gives us an insight into the darker reasons of dark circles. First, let's understand how dark circles appear. We have tiny blood vessels, which are like a web under the skin. But these capillaries are so fine that the red blood cells queue up to pass through; in the process some of them leak in the surrounding area. Enzymes are produced during the cleaning up session. The breaking down of these red blood cells leaves them black and blue. The reason why this is so visible is that the skin around the eyes is the thinnest. Common reasons for dark circle: Aging - The skin under the eyes is thin and delicate to begin with. As we grow older, skin around the eyes becomes thinner making blood vessels more prominent, causing dark circles. Genetics - Hereditary and genetics can also play a big role in the development and dominance of dark circles around the eyes. Nutritional deficiency - Dark circle around the eyes can be due to poor nutrition. A healthy and nutritious diet filled with vitamins like A, C, K, E and nutrients can help to get rid of dark circles. Sleep deprivation and tiredness - A lack of sleep or excessive tiredness results in pale skin, making blood under the skin become more visible and appear more blue or darker. Smoking and drinking - Late night parties, smoking and drinking can play havoc with your skin and result in dark eye circles. Dark eye circles could be a sign of loss of water from the body (dehydration) due to excessive drinking and intake of caffeinated drinks. Sun exposure - Increased exposure to the sun can draw pigmentation of the skin's surface and create dark circles. Long sun exposure produces more melanin around eyes than usual, giving them a darker color. There are of resurrecting your relationship with your drunken talk. Respond to anything that's workrelated Well, you really don't want to mix business with pleasure. Sometimes, it is necessary to use a certain language while writing an official mail and you may just type things that you don't mean to. Ensure that your drunken two main layers of skin, the outer layer of skin known as epidermis and inner layer known as dermis. When excess melanin is being made in the epidermis it appears brown, and when there is more than usual melanin in the dermis it looks blue or blue grey. Hormonal changes - In women, the skin undergoes lots of changes during the phase of pregnancy and menstruation, causing darkening under the eyes. Allergies - Any condition that causes the eyes to itch may contribute to darker circles due to rubbing or scratching the skin around them. Apart from that, some food allergies can also cause the area under the eyes to appear darker. In fact, dark circles in children often indicate allergy problems. Research also suggests that dark circles are linked to anemia, and liver diseases. Dark circles and anemia - Iron deficiency is one of the most common causes of inexplicable dark circles in many cases, which can be treated by making simple changes in your diet. Low iron levels is the most common form of anemia, and results in poor oxygenation in body tissues due to low supply of oxygenated blood. Thus, always take a balanced diet rich in green leafy vegetable, dairy products and all types of fruits to keep your body healthy. Dark circles and dehydration Dehydration is one of the most common reasons for dark circles under the eyes. The reason is the close proximity to the skin underneath the eye in relation to the underlying bone. When the body does not have a proper amount of water, the symptoms are often evident in this specific area. Thus it is advisable to have at least 8-10 glasses of water and include fresh fruit daily. It is also advisable to restrict the intake of caffeinated drinks such as tea, coffee, alcohol and other caffeinated drinks as it aggravates dehydration. Dark circles and liver disease - Dark circles also indicate liver dysfunction due to various liver ailments. An example of such a liver ailment is hepatitis. state doesn't affect your career. Get into a fight When drunk, you may think that anyone who disagrees with you is committing a crime. But that is not the time to go about serving justice. Make sure that spats stay verbal and don't reach the physical level. You may not just end up with a black eye, but also a broken bone or two.

The Truth About Dark Circles

Let's get back to our roots and understand a few quick home remedies for glowing skin.

Home remedies for dry skin: - Coconut oil has anti-inflammatory properties. Virgin coconut oil or coconut butter makes a good moisturizer by providing a protective layer. - Apricot and avocado oil mixed with glycerin can be massaged on the face followed by warm toweling for an instant glow. - Mix almond oil with Vitamin E cream and apply at bedtime on face and hands. This leaves the skin soft and supple. Home remedies for dry lips: - Desi Ghee is the best emollient available off the kitchen shelf. Nothing works better than this. - Apply a mixture of honey and antiseptic lip balm on the lips and leave them for 10-15 minutes. Remove with warm water. - Mix together a few drops of glycerin, lemon juice and castor oil. Apply it on your lips and keep it overnight. Home remedies for treating under eye circles: - Placing cucumber slices over tired eyes relaxes the fatigued eye muscles. - Cooled tea bags can be used to rejuvenate the under eye areas. Tannins in tea help in fluid retention. Home remedies for treating dark elbows and knees: - Mix sugar with honey and use it as a scrub twice a week. This is a wonderful natural polisher. - Cut a lemon in half, and scrub your knees with it. Leave lime juice overnight on your dark elbows and knees and see the difference for yourself. - Make a paste of milk cream, a pinch of turmeric, and 3 drops of basil leaf extract. Rub this mixture on dark

elbows and knees and keep it overnight for maximum affect. Home remedies for treating dull skin: - Mix honey with milk powder. Make a thick paste and leave on for few minutes. For best results, it has to continued for a longer period. - Rub a piece of papaya on the face and neck for 15 minutes or churn a ripe papaya, make a thick paste and apply the pulp on face and neck. Home remedies for treating oily skin: - Mix honey with some lemon juice. Apply the paste evenly on face, neck and back. Leave it on for at least 5-10 minutes. This also acts as natural skin bleach and controls oil production to some extent. - Other than this, you can apply aloe vera on your face as it has excellent skin healing properties. - You can also go for a mixture of aloe vera juice, turmeric powder, honey and rice flour to treat oily skin. Word of caution when using home remedies for skin care: - Acne or acne prone skin or individuals with sensitive skin should not try home remedies or any self medication without consulting a doctor. - The healthier and fresher the food consumed, the better the skin looks and glows. - Eat plenty of antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables such as oranges, lemons, sweet lime, papaya, green tea, tomatoes, broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes, and carrots. - Include omega 3 rich foods in the diet like walnuts, almonds and other nuts and seeds. These help in building skin immunity and glowing skin.

Drinking may be fun, but ensure that you don't have to bear the consequences Drunk driving This one is extremely serious. Not only are you risking your own life, but also that of the others in the car and those who are out on the road or in other vehicles. Make sure that you either take a cab back home or have a sober friend who can take over the task. It's not macho to drive when you are drunk. Click pictures and upload them online You do lose inhibitions when you are drunk, but if your drunken revelry finds its way online, it may cause a lot of trouble. Pictures that are loaded online can never be completely wiped off. You wouldn't want your boss to see your party pictures, right? Drunk texting Whether it's your friend or someone you are interested in, don't start a conversation with someone when you are drunk. You never know when your rather 'high' spirits may get you into some big trouble. Get flirtatious with a stranger Beauty does lie in the eye of the beerholder, but the illusion is bound to wear off once the beer haze passes away. You may end up regretting your actions the morning after your drunken revelry and do what is known as the 'walk of shame'. Talk to your ex Most people get highly emotional after a few drinks and dialling your ex will seem to be the perfect solution. Resist that temptation. It never helps to keep blabbering when you are high. In fact, you may end up quashing all chances

Race For Top Four

The Ba side is the only team to have qualified for the semi-finals of the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants which will be held this Saturday at Govind Park in Ba. The 4R Electrical "Men In Black" sponsored Ba side defeated arch rivals Jedis Stationary sponsored Suva 2-0 to top Group A with six points after two wins last weekend at Subrail Park in Labasa during the opening two rounds. Suva is second in Group A with three points following their close 1-0 victory over Jacks Nadi on day one. The Capital side needs a win over Coastal Rental Nadroga to accompany Ba to the semifinals. Nadroga and Nadi who played to a 1-1 draw last Sunday are still in contention. Both need to win their last pool matches to stay in the hunt. Group B remains wide open as neither side is guaranteed a place in the semifinals just yet. Dalip Chand Buses Labasa side beat Rewa 2-0 and Crown Timber Navua side 1-0 to gain six points. Labasa now needs only a draw against Lautoka to top Group B. Rewa needs a win over Navua to remain in the hunt. But if Navua is able to beat Rewa then they will also stand a chance to qualify if then Labasa claims a win over Lautoka. Everything Set: Bob Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Bob Kumar says everything is on track for the 2013 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament which resumes tomorrow at Govind

Suva Faces Setbacks
The Jades Stationery Suva football side is likely to miss the services of national Under-20 rep Jale Dreloa and defender Waisake Navunigasau in the final rounds of the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament in Ba. Coach Gurjit Singh said the duo is currently carrying injuries and are still in doubt for the game against Nadroga. Dreloa has a hamstring injury while Navunigasau has boils and we are keeping our fingers crossed for their quick recovery before our game against Nadroga tomorrow, Singh said. We will need to beat Nadroga to qualify for the semifinals and we know Nadroga is not an easy team to beat, he said. Ground availability for training was the huge obstacles for the Men in White this week. We did not train since we got back from Labasa because there was no ground available and the players were not turning up to training because of the weather condition. Nadroga will have the advantage of the western weather, Singh added. Fixtures: Friday August 16; Premier 8.30am: Lami vs Nasinu 10.30am: Dreketi vs Bua Super Premier 12.30pm: Nadroga vs. Suva 2.30pm: Rewa vs. Navua 4.30pm: Labasa vs. Lautoka 6.30pm: Ba vs. Nadi

Park in Ba. Kumar said their grounds committee has been working overtime to get everything in order. Everything is set at Govind Park as the Inkk Mobile BOG continues. We hope that the patrons will be out in numbers and enjoy the remainder of the event, Kumar said. Lami, Nasinu, Dreketi and Bua will participate in the Inkk Mobile Premier Division competition. Pacific Cup The four semifinalists from the 2013 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament will not be guaranteed a place in the Pacific Cup like last year. Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel says the semifinalists from the 2013 Courts Inter District Championship will also be gauged before the final four teams are named to represent Fiji at the Pacific Cup which will be held in New Zealand this November. Last year Ba, Nadi, Lautoka and Labasa qualified. We have decided that we will assess the semifinalists from the INKK BOG and later Courts IDC to select the four teams that will represent Fiji at the Pacific Cup. Last year we selected the sides early and few teams were not able to be consistent in their performance by the time they took part in the Pacific Cup, Patel said. The Jacks Nadi side is the defending Pacific Cup champion.

The Jedis Stationery Suva soccer team

James OConnor said he is happy to say goodbye to the Test No. 10 jersey and return to the positions that made him an indispensable part of the Wallabies for the past four years. The 37-Test utility did not rule out playing No. 10 again but has been told by new coach Ewen McKenzie that his immediate future lies in going back to the positions of wing and fullback. OConnor said he was looking forward to a less structured return to the Wallabies back line if he is named in the team to play the All Blacks in Sydney. The Wallabies will host the All Blacks at 10pm this Saturday for the first Rugby Championship match while

Stallions Keen To Stamp Bog Mark

TIMES SPORTS
The Head of the OFC Media and Communications department, Daniel Markham, has resigned from the position and left Oceanias football governing body last week. Markham has led the department since replacing former Football Fern Priscilla Duncan in the role in July of 2012 and has successfully overseen all media operations during one of the busiest and most significant periods in the history of OFC. The ex-New Zealand national league player and Chatham Cup winner leaves the confederation on good terms and with the support of General Secretary Tai Nicholas. We regret that Daniel has decided to move on at this time but we wish him all the best for the future, Nicholas says. He has been an important part of the team and, on behalf of OFC, I would like to thank Daniel for his dedication and strong commitment to the development and promotion of football throughout the Pacific region. Markham joined OFC just prior to the 2010 FIFA World Cup and served for two years as a Media and Communications Coordinator before stepping up to replace Duncan, who is now based in Zurich and works for FIFA as a Media Relations Manager, as head of the department. The 30-year-old took on the role at an

Nadroga FA president Vijay Singh admits they have respect for Suva, but not to the extent of giving in to Whites when they go head-to-head in their BOG match. Suva is a very good side with the inclusion of the foreign players and they will be coming in the match with only one aim to win, Singh said. However we will be playing for the people of Nadroga, and we would like to fight for that available semi-final spot as well.

Jack Reddy.

To qualify, Nadroga will need to beat Suva with better goal difference and hope 4R Electrical Ba beat the Jacks Nadi. All the players are looking forward to the final match in the group. The side is injury-free; we will see how it goes in the match for us. The Stallions who had finished 8th in the National Football League performed well above expectations in round one of the tournament, narrowly losing to Ba 2-1 before holding Nadi to a 0-0 draw.

Navua Drops Three Players

Crown Timber Navua have dropped three key players over indiscipline ahead of their crucial Battle of Giants match against Rewa . Navua FA head coach Saiyad Ali said the three players were dropped after they failed to turn up for camp. We believe in discipline. As much as it is a crucial match against Rewa, this is the sort of behaviour we will not entertain, Ali said. He believes it is high time for he breaks his silence and let the Navua fans know about the going-ons in the team. I was quiet all while but now I think the people should know what is happening in the team. I have talked to the president regarding this matter and he has also agreed with me, Ali said. I will submit my report to Navua Football Association and would recommend that a strong action is taken. I have been counselling the players since I joined Navua five months ago but I think my effort is going nowhere. Navua will also be without Damasioa Tikovola and Vilikesa Kacikawho who are representing their respective schools in the annual schools IDC which has already started at Labasas Subrail Park.

exciting time with a packed schedule of competitions on the horizon, including the conclusion of the all-important Oceania qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the launching of a revamped OFC Champions League. He was in charge of media operations for both key events, as well as the qualifying tournaments for the U-17 and U-20 FIFA World Cups earlier this year and the recent OFC Futsal Championship Invitational. Other highlights included being selected to become a FIFA Media Officer and FIFA Communications Instructor while his most cherished personal memory is of the 2012 OFC Nations Cup, an enthralling tournament held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, that brought the fans, players and administrators of the region together in fitting fashion. It has not been an easy decision to make and I will greatly miss working as part of the Oceania football family, I have enjoyed my three years at OFC and the opportunities this has provided me have been amazing, Markham says. I feel privileged to have been able to work in a sport that I am very passionate about while experiencing a range of different cultures across the Pacific. But I think the time is right to move on and I am excited at the prospect of exploring other opportunities.
