Reasons for Admission

Mrs. Gailbraithe came because she was not able to take care of herself on her own and because she had no
relatives who wanted to take her in for good. Her husband Eli has passed away 8 years before her 1st
admission in 1896. She had a son Robert who was 18 years old at the time of her 1st visit, but it makes no
mention of what his living status was. She wasn’t able to be on her own for extended periods of time so she
would frequently have to come back to the Day Home. She came in and out of the home 12 different times
in a span of 30 years, but more specifically 10 times in the span of 3 years from 1923-1926. She had many
relatives that lived in the Boston area, specifically Arlington and Watertown, but none seem committed to
letting her live with them.
