Green This Season MAGAZINE feb 2013

ur first issue of Green This Season is like a look-book of new beginnings where we will introduce you to our philosophy and welcome you to Our Green Scene. We will introduce you to Christiane Milde one of our international independent designers whose beautifully simple looks are an expression of her natural beliefs. Born and raised in Weimar, Germany, she always had a fascination with the fashion world and has brought her dream of working with fair and ecological materials to life with her Berlinbased brand, Milde.

e promote and support Independent Slow Fashion designers because we think Slow Fashion is the way forward in a world where a conscious lifestyle is becoming the rule rather then the exception.

Fashion does not have to upset our balance in nature.

In fact, it should exist harmoniously and compliment our way of living like a handbag does an outfit.

Green This Season MAGAZINE feb 2013

What is Slow Fashion?

e should actually describe what Slow Fashion isnt. Slow Fashion isnt driven by the seasons and is most definitely not about mass production. What it is is high - end, quality fashion that you can wear throughout the seasons. Its timelessand oftentimes, the styles are consciously created to be worn throughout the seasons on any occasion.

hy does the designer make this connection? Christiane Milde asks, why not? Empathy does not stop at my doorstep. Her above-average approach to promoting ethical fashion and attention to detail is evident in the emotion she devotes to her designs.

e fell for Milde with the lines eclectic influence and funky mix of materials and are sure youll fall for them this season. Milde transfers the green revolution into aesthetically progressive ideas and creates beautiful and simple feminine looks with high-quality organic fabrics and futuristic fabrics like Tencel. Milde is not just a new label; its a movement, part of the new Eco Fashion Generation. Mildes inspirational pieces are the result of a connection between the designers appreciation for high quality materials and dedication to fair working conditions.

also known as Peace Silk, Eco Silk or Nonviolent Silk. In the traditional Silk process the silkworm is killed in order to extract the silk from the cocoon. Ahimsa silk is extracted after the silkworm has completed from the cocoon. This makes it a far better, ethical and animal friendly way to gain silk.

Who is Christiane Milde?

Born and raised in Weimar, Germany
Green This Season MAGAZINE feb 2013

Christiane Milde answers our questions about her brand and introduces us to empathy:

Why Organic, Ethical Fashion?

Why not? As a person living in this world I really dont know why and how someone cannot care. I just open my eyes and look at the things that daily happen on this planet. I dont have to be standing next to a chemical poisoned cotton field, a child labor fabric, minimum waged workers and so on to feel the pain and see that a lot of things go wrong. Empathy doesnt stop at my doorstep. That is why for me personally and in business there is no other way in acting. I pretty much do everything with the question: How would I feel and live if I was standing on that side? It is my approach to do better than what is average right now. continue

Fascinated by the fashionworld, the construction of clothes and the texture of fabrics Christiane decides to study fashion and collected experiences in the high fashion world Already at the beginning of her studies and during the time of her fashion education Christiane had the goal to work with fair and ecological correct materials In 2011 she founded the company Milde, based in Berlin Weiensee, where she creates clothes which reflect emotions and appear in aesthetically progressive ideas and beautifully simple looks

16

What are the pros and cons in designing your collections?

PROS I work with the materials and designs I feel comfortable about and I love my work! CONS Sometimes ideas may not come to life as the fabrics and accessories therefor may not exist yet, or I havent found them yet....but still it is not really a con as I can save these ideas for later

Green This Season MAGAZINE feb 2013

17

How easy is it to source materials?

It is way easier now. When I started looking out for sustainable fabrics in 2003 it was still very hard, not to say nearly not existing. The fabric market in this area progresses fast and gives reason to hope for some really great fabrics in the future. Considering the new areas, which are opened by Tencel, Recycling and so many more.

What would you change if you could change 1 thing in the entire FashionIndustry?
Id introduce empathy.

What can we expect within the next year?

The summer is going to be fresh and sexy, playing with transparency and floating fabrics in off-whites. The winter brings back some dark colors and sexy shapes.

Where do you see Milde in 5 years?

In Berlin, doing Eco Fashion.

What would you change

CHRISTIANE MILDE
What are the must sees and dos when we visit Berlin?
Hard question. I prefer to explore a city by just walking and would also recommend this to you when it comes to Berlin. Look out for Teufelsberg , a man-made hill rising above the Grunewald, constructed by the Allies after World War II from the citys rubble. Great Spot! Check out the Schillerkiez in Neuklln, good food and the former airport Tempelhof just arround the corner. Perfect Hang Out Spot!

e love Christianes organic approach to visiting a city and can picture ourselves being charmed by everything during her most-loved spring or summertime. We might even rent a bike through the Call A Bike sharing program to get around the city and down to the Tiergarten park or by the canal to enjoy a beer and some specialty organic selections from the Shoneberg Farmers Market.

If you have some tips for us all about visits to Berlin, why not share them with us on our Facebook page or on Twitter?
