13th Sunday after Pentecost Preparing for Gods Word

10:00am

ORGAN PRELUDE *CALL TO WORSHIP** L: The One who commands the clouds calls us to be poured out for others. P: We can, by faith, be the waters of peace which quench the fires of hatred. L: The One who creates mercy and hope, longs for a world of fair play and grace. P: We can, by faith, let righteousness and justice be our constant companions. L: The One who is with us in every moment composes a love-song for our hearts. P: We can, by faith, teach this song to everyone we meet.. *HYMN #342G Rejoice, the Lord is King *CALL TO and PRAYER of CONFESSION** What more can we say, Expectant God, that you dont know already? You long for justice for all people, but it is washed away by the flood of violence in our world. You hope that righteousness will walk with us, but you hear the clear cries of those we mistreat. You ask us to speak up for those in need, but we shut our mouths and turn away. Forgive us, Righteous God. Have mercy when we do not bear the fruit we could. Even though we have not lived our faith to the fullest, may we receive the promises of hope and grace you have given to us in Christ Jesus our Lord. In His name, we continue to confess ... (silent, personal confession) *ASSURANCE of PARDON L: Shhh, listen! Can you hear them? The saints of heaven -

those who have gone on before us - are cheering us on as we run towards the finish line of our faith. P: Thanks be to God! The victory has already been won for us in Jesus Christ. We are forgiven. Amen. *GLORIA PATRI *AFFIRMATION of FAITH: Apostles Creed (back)

Thank you! Local food banks such as Disciples Pantry in Woodstown and Peters Pantry in Elmer continue to be in need of items. This need will greatly increase in the summer when children are out of school and no longer have access to school lunches. Items in need include canned potatoes, instant potatoes, rice, cereal, canned meats, canned fruit, peanut butter, jelly (strawberry), spaghetti sauce, pasta, soup, tea, etc. Please leave your contribution in the box marked in the narthex and we will make sure it gets there. If you would like to make a monetary donation you can use the white envelopes in the pews. Thank you in advance! Next Sunday, August 25th, Rev. Snedeker will take few moments to share with us how the West Jersey Presbytery is helping with the Super Storm Sandy clean-up efforts via the Presbytery Disaster Assistance (PDA) team. Rev. Snedeker is a member of the PDA team and will tell us about some of their activities and how they assist. We come to exult in Gods glory and loving kindness. Please know that you are important to us, and we welcome you here in the name of Christ.

The flowers this morning are presented in loving memory of Pauline Carmody by all her family.

Welcome Rev. Beverly Snedeker to the pulpit this morning. After careers in music teaching, managing her husbands photography studio and coordinating secretarial services in a Long Island hospital, Rev. Snedeker was ordained to intentional interim ministry. She served churches in Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey before retiring a year ago. She resides in Edgewater Park with her husband Harold and their current rescue cat, Mr. Puffington, a flame-tipped Himalayan. There will be a Christian Education meeting today after worship service. Anyone who is interested in helping with Sunday School, please attend. Our congregation has always been dedicated to a strong Christian education program for all ages. The program in the fall may be a little different than our traditional one, and for that we need some help! First we need "students". Are you bringing your children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors to Sunday School? Are YOU coming? Next we need helpers and teachers. Could you help once a month or once a quarter? Commitment to teaching every Sunday for the entire year is NOT required! If you are reluctant to "teach", please consider helping with various activities that follow a lesson. Would you be willing to share a story from your faith journey or a mission trip experience with our classes? If you shared something a few years ago, new ears and hearts would like to learn about your experiences. Please pray about ways you can be involved in our Christian education program and contact Pastor Paul, Ruth Williams, or Anita Elwell with ideas and offers of help.

If one member rejoices or suffers, all members rejoice or suffer together! --1 Corinthians 12:26 Prayer Requests: Debbie Covey (Oak Gandys daughter), Brenda (Hackett) Halls daughter, Jill (friend of Jane String), Tom Buckingham, David Sickler, Georgia Williams, Charlie Hitchner, Sara Williams (Lee Williams Jr.s wife), Thomas & Paula Hackett (Dick Hacketts brother and sister-in-law), Doris Miller, Stanley Prickitt, Margie Ware, Zoni Robinson (friend of Kitty Lamb), Diane Reichert, and Jean & Frank Johnston (maternal grandparents of Patrick Sheehan).
Please note: There is a notebook in the narthex to write down prayer requests. Rev. Tuttle will utilize this information during the time of our prayers. Please include the individuals name and address if possible. Our church website needs help! By October 31st we need to redesign our website with a new company since Faith Highway is shutting down. If you can help or have ideas of what should be included in our new and improved website, please contact Pastor Paul or Ruth Williams.

We give thanks to Harold Ware for playing the organ the month of August! His time and talents are truly appreciated!
Rev. Tuttle will be on vacation through the month of August. If there is a pastoral emergency please contact Ruth Williams or the church office. Our guest preachers will be: August 25th Rev. Beverly Snedeker September 1st Pastor Diane Carbonetta
