Brimbank Writers Awards 2013 Conditions of Entry

FORMAT: Entry is via the online Entry Form only. Authors must complete the Entry Form available at www.brimbank.vic.gov.au/writersfestival and attach an electronic file (i.e. .doc or .docx) of their writing; Entries are to be: o Typed in 12 point Arial font, in black type; o Double spaced; o In sentence case (not all upper case); o Not in italics except where necessary; o Within the prescribed word limit; o Original unpublished work of the author; o Text only, illustrations or images are not permitted; o Songwriting category; Entries will be judged on lyrical content only, musical notation not permitted. Entrants have the option to also submit an audio file; The authors name must appear only on the Entry Form and not on attached written piece; Entries in the Childrens Open Category may be a short story, biography, or poem; Entries in the ESL Open Category may be a short story, biography, or poem. ELIGIBILITY: The author must live, work or study in Brimbank. Winning authors will need to supply proof of residency, work or study in Brimbank; Where age conditions apply, entrants must be of the required age as at 12 July 2013 and may be required to provide proof of age; Authors can submit one entry per category, if eligible; A separate Entry Form must be submitted for each category entered; Entry to the ESL (English as a Second Language) category is open to all people aged 8 years and over for whom English is not their first language. Please state length of time lived in Australia on the Entry Form; Entry to the Songwriting Category is open to all people aged 8 years and over; Employees of Brimbank City Council, and their immediate family members (parents, partner, siblings or children), are ineligible to submit an entry; Contractors and sponsors of the Brimbank Writers Awards and Brimbank Writers & Readers Festival, and their immediate family members, are ineligible to submit an entry.

RIGHTS OF ORGANISERS: Organisers reserve the right to withdraw any unsuitable entry; The judges decisions are final; The names of winning authors and copies of their winning entries may be published by Brimbank City Council and any media sponsors. By entering you agree to have your work published and available to be viewed by the public.

CLOSING DATE: Entries close at 5pm Friday 12 July 2013.

The information collected on the Entry Form will be used in connection with the Brimbank Writers Awards and will be in accordance with the privacy principles contained in the Information Privacy Act 2000. Council may only disclose this information by consent or where required to by law. The applicant understands that the personal information provided is for the above purpose and he or she may apply to the Manager, Libraries & Learning for access to, and amendment of, the information by calling 9249 4285 or by writing to Brimbank Libraries, Alexandra Avenue, PO Box 70, Sunshine Victoria, 3020.
