Basic tips for going yeast free

Bakersyeastisaddedtomostbakedgoods,includingbreads,biscuits,buns,rolls,pretzels,crackers,and pastries.Unleavenedbakedproducts,aswellasthoseraisedinsteadwithbakingsodaand/orbakingpowder, aswellasmaybesubstituted(inmoderation). Yeastispresentinfermentedliquidsofallkinds:allalcoholicbeverages,kombuchaandkefir,rootandbirch beers,gingerale,andvanillaandalmondextractsshouldbeavoided.Coffeesubstitutes,drycereals,andmilk drinkstowhichmalthasbeenaddedshouldalsobeavoided. Skimmilk,plainyogurtandkefir,butterandgheemaybeusedbysome,butweencourageyoutostayaway fromthemwhilefollowingayeastfreediet. Remember,fungiofallkinds,includingmushroomsandtruffles,arerelativesofyeasts. Allfermentedcondimentsaswellascondimentscontainingvinegarshouldbeavoided.Soysauce,tamari, miso,fishsauce,tempeh,sauerkraut,olivesandpickles,aswellasketchup,mayonnaise,saladdressings, barbequesauce,preparedmustardandhorseradishfallintothiscategory.Homemade,vinegarfree mayonnaiseandsaladdressingmaybesubstituted. Alltrueteas(derivedfromCamelliasinensisnotherbalteas)undergoenzymaticfermentationin processing,whichitselfdoesnotinvolveyeastormoldorganisms.Teamayeasilybecomecontaminatedwith mold,however,andsomevarieties,suchasPuertea,arepurposelyagedwithnaturalmoldsandyeast,soit maybebestforyoutoavoidteawhilefollowingthisdiet. Washfruitsandvegetablestoeliminateanyyeastandmoldontheirsurfaces,andavoidoverripeproduce. Medicationsandsupplementsderivedfrommoldoryeastshouldbeavoided,includingpenicillin,mycin, chloromycetin,tetracyclines,vitaminBcapsulesortabletsmadefromyeast,multivitaminscontainingBvitamins madefromyeast.Likewise,allmedicationsandtincturescontainingalcoholshouldbeavoided. Alwaysreadlabelscarefully.Untilyoubecomefamiliarwithwhatyourelookingfor,youmaywanttocarrythis listwithyou. Keepafoodandsymptomdiary,totrackanychangesinyoursignsandsymptoms.Ifyounoticeanadverse reactiontocertainfoods,removethemfromyourdietfor46months.Ifyouknowyoureupsetbysomething butarentsurewhatitis,theresasimplewaytoisolateyourfoodsensitivities.Simplydonteatthesamefoods everyday.Instead,rotatewhatyoueatovera45daycycle.(Remember,itcantakeupto72hoursforthe adversefoodreactiontoappear.)Byaprocessofelimination,overtimeyoullidentifythefoodsyouresensitive to. Awidevarietyandampleamountsoffreshvegetables,raworcooked,preferablyorganic.Besureto includedarkgreenleafyvegetables.Somefreshfruitsarefine(seelist),butkeeptoaminimum. Qualityproteinateverymeal,includingmoderateamountsof: Wildharvestedfish/seafood,freerange Raw,blanched,orfreshroastednutsand fowl,andgrassfedmeat seeds(exceptpeanutsandpistachios) Wholegrainsandgrainsubstitutes(see Legumes below) Skimmilk,plainyogurt,butter(minimal,if tolerated) Complexcarbohydrates,includingwholegrainsandgrainsubstitutes(amaranth,brownrice,barley, buckwheat,millet,oats,quinoa),beans(kidney,lima,redbeans),andcertaintypesofpasta(whole wheat,spelt,corn,rice).Becarefulnottogettoomanycarbsaimforabout15gramspermeal. Unrefined,coldpressedvegetableoils.
