Course Description
This course is the base of all communication courses as it describes the propagation of waves in different media and also some introduction to antennas and their radiation patterns. Subject areas included are, Wave equations and their propagation in transmission lines, Smith chart, Plane waves and their Propagation in unguided media (air), Reflection, Refraction and Dispersion of waves, Dipole Antenna and its Radiation pattern, Concepts like HPBW, FNBW, Directivity, Gain etc. Arrays of antennas and resulting radiation patterns. This course directly contributes to objectives a, d, e, and f of the HEC Electrical Engineering Curriculum. In accordance with HEC curriculum outcomes b, d, e and g, students at the end of the course should be able to Have the strong understanding of wave propagation in guided and unguided media Be able to resolve problem of mismatching in lines which is major source of power loss. Have strong concepts of antenna radiation patterns which they can apply in wireless communications. 1. Engineering Electromagnetics, 7th Edition, by William H. Hayt, John A. Buck 2. Antenna Theory: Analysis and Design, 3rd Edition, by Constantine A. Balanis Assignments & Quizzes: 20% Midterm: 20% Lab: 20% Final Exam: 40%
