PROGRAM

ORGANIZERS:

Ludlow Bailey is the Managing Director of G&A Interna5onal Consultants, Inc and a Cultural Curator of Global African Diaspora Culture.. Africa in Cuba represents the rst 5me that a collec5on of African Cuban art has been exhibited in South Florida and in many way reects a minute introduc5on to the vast and exci5ng world of Afro-Cuban art. Mr. Bailey has curated African Diaspora Art shows in Europe, La5n America, the Caribbean and the United States. Edmund Abaka is a historian and a documentary photographer. He believes that the strength of African culture, the oppressive eects of slavery notwithstanding, can be found in the re-crea5on of African socie5es in the Americas, the Caribbean and other places. Presently, African diaspora art ranks among some of the best masterpieces of our 5me. African diaspora arts, in par5cular, have global signicance not only in song, dance and music but also in photography, pain5ngs, craRs, and other ar5s5c crea5ons in general.. My interest in Africa in Cuba stems from this desire to showcase the African diaspora contribu5on to global culture. Dr. Pa? Rose will discuss photographic pieces, which provide a glimpse into her experience in Cuba as a member of a Fully Hosted par5cipant group, through a Global Exchange study en5tled Health and Healing, in 1999. Her experience included travel to Havana, Matanzas, Colon, Santa Clara, and Moron in Ciego de Avila Province. The ve photographic pieces in the exhibi5on represents a brief documenta5on of her visit to Casa de Africa, an ins5tu5on devoted to preserving the African presence in Cuba.
