Large Financial institution Senior Systems Administrator

February 2008 - Present

Build and maintain a test lab for all business units last line Integration tests. The lab was created to ensure that changes made to the software on a users PC will not negatively impact another application. As a result of the broad based approach to testing, we are also able to prevent other kind of bugs from entering the environment. These could be packaging errors, installation issues or Integration problems. Oversaw the monthly build-out of 80 PCs of varying configurations (Desktops, Laptops, Blades, and Terminal Servers) in order to create an accurate production-like test environment to test any internal, third party, or Microsoft Monthly patch updates. Reduced errors by 50% and improved on-time delivery of lab configurations to nearly 100% by implementing and managing a shared checklist so that all in the group could see what others were doing, and those working on systems knew exactly which steps had been accomplished.. Reduced number of machines per test cycle by by working with the support personnel, QA community, and Developers to come up with more realistic testing scenarios, diminishing redundancies and making for a more streamlined process for the lab and the testers. Shortened the build time for machines from 3 days to overnight. By using Altiris Notification Server and Deployment server, our team managed to automate most of the build process that was high touch. Given overnight, it could build itself by chaining NS jobs together to update a machine as if it was in the production environment through managed collections. Working in a modified Agile environment the we would troubleshoot software bugs to get the best, most complete information to the right party to solve the problem quickly. Communicated with diverse groups both culturally and geographically (India, Ireland, and various US locations) to facilitate bug remediation between testers, engineers, and developers. Rapidly came up to speed on Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) to deploy applications to machines for testing in a Windows 7 Environment. Intimately involved with company-wide migration to Windows 7, including deployment and testing using SCCM and task sequences.
