Katherine Siochi
Katherine Siochi is a junior harp major at The Juilliard School studying with Nancy Allen. Ms. Siochi won first prize in the junior division of the 2009 American String Teachers Association national solo harp competition. She has appeared on NPRs radio program From The Top, both in 2009 and 2010. In 2012 Ms. Siochi was a recipient of the Anne Adams Awards, and won the Aspen Music Festival harp competition. This summer she received first prize in the Advanced Division of the American Harp Society National Competition and an honorable mention at the Lyon & Healy Awards.

Scott Conklin
Commended by The Strad for his brilliance of tone and charismatic delivery, Scott Conklin regularly appears as a recitalist, soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and teaching clinician throughout the United States and abroad. He is Associate Professor of Violin at The University of Iowa School of Music and a violin teacher at the Preucil School of Music. Conklin has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Louisville, Nashville, and Berlin Symphony Orchestras. Conklin is the 2008 Iowa String Teachers Association Leopold LaFosse Studio Teacher of the Year, and he has been a featured clinician and artist at the 2010 Suzuki Association of the Americas Conference and the 2004 Music Teachers National Association Conference. During his youth, Conklin was a student of Carol Dallinger, Violin Professor at the University of Evansville. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from The Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied violin with David Updegraff and chamber music with Peter Salaff. Conklin also earned Master of Music and Doctorate of Musical Arts degrees from The University of Michigan School of Music as a student of Paul Kantor.

Dr. Andrew Parker


Dr. Andrew Parker has been recently appointed Assistant Professor of Oboe at the University of Iowa. After receiving his Bachelors degree at the Eastman School of Music and Masters degree at Yale University, he finished doctoral studies at the University of Michigan where he was the Graduate Student Instructor. In his time at the University of Michigan, Andrew was a finalist in the concerto competition and was asked to represent the university by performing at the illustrious Conservatory Project, a recital series at the Kennedy Center. He also had the opportunity to collaborate with many of the faculty including Nancy Ambrose King, Jeffrey Lyman, Donald Sinta, and Amy Porter among others. Andrew has also taught and coached chamber music at various international music festivals, including the FEMUSC festival in Brazil, the Hartwick Festival in New York, and the Kinhaven Music School in Vermont. In 2009 he was appointed the English horn Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival where he performed on a faculty chamber music recital with Elaine Douvas, Joaquin Valdepenas, Nancy Goeres, and Nadine Asin. He has also attended other workshops and summer programs such as the Sarasota Music Festival, the Carnegie Hall Orchestral Workshop for Winds and Brass, and the Pine Mountain Music Festival. In addition to his experience as a teacher and chamber music coach, he has performed with many orchestras in the US, including the Florida Orchestra, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the Aspen Fesitval Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, the Ann Arbor Symphony, the Flint Symphony, the New Mexico Symphony, the Santa Fe Symphony, the Great Falls Symphony, and the Plymouth Symphony. Andrew is currently the interim principal oboe of the Quad Cities Symphony. Andrew's primary teachers have been Jeannette Bittar, Richard Killmer, and Nancy Ambrose King. He has also studied with Elaine Douvas and Robert Walters.

Benjamin Coelho
Benjamin Coelho, Professor of Bassoon, has been at The University of Iowa since 1998. A native from Tatu, Brazil, Ben started the bassoon at the age of ten at the local Conservatory. In the early 1980s he came to the U.S. to study at Purchase College Conservatory of Music, where he received his BFA. He received his Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music. His bassoon teachers included Clvis Franco, Donald MacCourt, Arthur Weisberg, and Kim Walker. He has appeared as soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician, teacher and clinician in many countries in four continents. As a recording artist, Ben has released six critically acclaimed CD recordings. Ben has played as principal bassoon with several orchestras in Brazil and the USA. Currently, he is the principal bassoon with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra. Ben lives in Iowa City, Iowa with his wife Karen and their wonderful daughters Liliana and Julia.

Karen Charney
Karen Charney received her B.F.A. at Suny Purchase in flute performance and has an M.S. in Counseling from CUNY Lehman. She is a member of Kol Shira, an ensemble that plays music from different parts of the world. She arranges the compositions, plays guitar and flute, and sings harmonies. Karen enjoys teaching flutists of all ages and loves to play music every chance she gets. She is currently a School Counselor at Lincoln Elementary School.

Carey Bostian
Carey has been conductor of the Iowa City Community String Orchestra since 1998. Born and raised in Granville, Ohio, he came to study at the University of Iowa in 1993. He holds a MFA in orchestral conducting as the last student of James Dixon, and a DMA in cello as a student of Charles Wendt. Carey is currently principal cellist of Orchestra Iowa and cellist with its String Quartet. In addition, he performs regularly with Red Cedar Chamber Music, and teaches cello at the Orchestra Iowa School and privately in Iowa City. He is a member of the conducting faculty at the Preucil School of Music, and has served as conductor at Coe College and Lawrence University. Carey is an active clinician as both conductor and cellist throughout the region and has recently been appointed Music Director of the Ottumwa Symphony. Carey lives in Iowa City with his wife, Miera Kim, a violinist, and their two sons, Oliver and Adrian.

Miera Kim
Miera Kim is the concertmaster of the Iowa City Community String Orchestra and Associate Principal Second Violin of Orchestra Iowa. Miera teaches privately in Iowa City and is Instructor of Violin at Cornell College. She is a regular clinician at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids and a frequent performer with Red Cedar Chamber Music. Her past teachers include Doris Preucil (Preucil School of Music), Jascha Brodsky (Curtis Institute of Music), and Allen Ohmes (University of Iowa). Miera lives in Iowa City with her husband, cellist Carey Bostian and their two sons, Oliver and Adrian.
