This project addresses Learning Outcome 2,3,7 and 8. Project Objectives To enable students to: read,gather and collate information from the articles read on issues based on the selected theme summarize and organise the main ideas from the articles in a PowerPoint presentation; and

synthesize ideas from the articles to express views and opinions confidently on the issues pertaining to the theme by writing a 350-word personal reponse response essay.

Project (100%) Every social experience that we have has affected us in at least a small way. However, several familiar settings and themes have special importance to youths at large.

Which among the issues or experiences above do you think is the most important and why? Your project consists of three tasks as follows: Task 1 :Reading, gathering and organizing information(30 %) 1. Individually, gather information from two different types of sources, i.e. journals, internet, books, newspaper and magazines related to the topic. Read and extract relevant information to support your view point. Organise the information in the form of graphic organisers.

Task 2: Writing your personal response essay(40%) 1. Write your personal response in a 350-essay to support ypur viewpoint and opinion on the issues pertaining to the theme. You make use of publishes materials ( and / or adaptations of published materials) but you must acknowledge the source.

Task 3: Oral Presentation (30 %) 1. Prepare a 6- minute oral presentation using all the information you have analysed and evaluated based on theme and your personal response essay.

Your oral presentation must be supported by the use of PowerPoint which include mind maps, charts, pictures , handouts, diagrams, audio recording, etc. which you think may enhance your verbal presentation.

Detailed Requirements of the project: Task 1: Graphic Organisers 1. 2. 3. Every graphic organiser needs to have captions. The orgainsers should contain the main ideas and supporting details of the articles. The articles should be the length of 1500-word or more and submitted together with your organisers.

Task 2: Personal Response 1. 2. 3. Your essay should have an appropriate title. Provide a relevant introduction and conclusion. The main ideas/topic sentences should be clearly stated.

Task 3: Oral Presentation 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. You must not read your presentation. You should be able to pronounce and speak with clarity. You should be able to introduce and conclude your presentation appropriately. You should be able to present your ideas coherently and express your opinions on the issues. Your PowerPoint slides should include the main ideas and supporting details of your presentation.

Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. Cite the source of the text and any references you used, using the APA format. The cover page should have the following information: a. Name of student d. Lecturers name b. NRIC No. e. Date of submission c. Class You should adhere to the deadline. Without an approved extension of time, late submission will be dealt with severely.
