For me, summer and sewing don't seem to mix . I'v e got a lot going on in the garden, it's hot in my garage (AKA sewing studio), the little one isn't wearing much clothing any way ... the list of ex cuses is a mile long. But there's good news, my anti-sewing attitude led me to a cool + easy craft!

I put together a little tutorial in case y ou want to make one. Coupled with a sketch book (or these awesome blank books) it makes a v ery nice gift. I made this one for my fav orite sev en y ear old.

No-Sew Colored Pencil Roll Tutorial Materials: 1 /3 y ard of wool or wool blend felt 1 y ard of leather cord ex acto knife ruler disappearing fabric marker or tailors chalk

self healing mat (optional but helpful) 24 colored pencils * Optional Step 1 : Thicken y our felt: Wash it in hot water, and put it in the dry er until almost dry , iron. * Optional Step 2: Download Pencil roll pattern to make the whole thing more clear. 1 . Cut y our felt into a rectangle 9"x 33" (or 26" if y ou don't want the ex tra felt that wraps around at the end). 2. Using a ruler mark one row of 24 dashes that are 1 /2" long and 1 /2" apart starting 3" from the bottom (long side) of y our felt and 1 " from the edge (9" side). Mark another row of identical dashes 1 /2" abov e the first.
3. Repeat with the top. Using a ruler mark one row of 24 dashes that are 1 /2" long and 1 /2" apart starting 3" from the top (long edge) of y our felt and 1 " from the short edge. Mark another row of identical dashes 1 /2" below the first. 4. Using an ex acto knife, cut along the dashes to create slits where the pencils will slide through.

5. Attach the cord by cutting a small hole 1 " in from and halfway up the far edge. Fold the cord in half, tie a loop knot, thread the two loose ends through the hole.

6. Fill y our roll with pencils, roll it up, wrap the cord around, tie, and enjoy !
