Abstract
The possibility psychological support in situations of physical
disease, have attracted more and more interest in recent decades.
Giuseppe Pasta (1742 – 1823), a physician, was one of the pioneers in
this area of research who has yet to be the object of any in-depth
historical studies. Born in Bergamo, Italy, was a cousin of the famous
physician, Andrea Pasta (1706 – 1782), who had been one of Giovanni
Battista Morgagni’s pupils. His cultural and clinical sources were the
teachings of of Francesco Redi’s medical school in Tuscany. This paper
presents a biography of this author, and a review of his publications,
particulary about the philosophical tolerance of diseases, the courage
in disease and the physicians etiquette.
