Stereotypes and prejudices about foreigners living in the country: a contribution to the reflection on diversity.

Resumen Contribuir al reconocimiento y vivencia de la diversidad desde un plano educativo, implica compromiso para los actores sociales involucrados en los procesos formativos, de educar en y para la diversidad, de forma tal que los habitantes, desde edades tempranas vayan desarrollando las competencias que exige vivir en diversidad. El presente artculo es parte del proyecto Bases para una

conceptualizacin de la interculturalidad en la realidad costarricense, segn opinin de diferentes actores sociales, en l se presentan algunos aspectos tericos como fundamentacin y los resultados de la consulta hecha a participantes voluntarios tanto nacionales como extranjeros de distinta procedencia: centroamericanos, suramericanos, norteamericanos y europeos, que viven en distintas zonas del pas, acerca de indicadores relacionados con estereotipos y discriminacin centrados en dos categoras: origen y credo religioso; es a partir de sus experiencia cotidianas, producto del contacto y la interaccin en la mutua convivencia con costarricenses, que se logran resultados de utilidad, para la toma de conciencia de los grandes retos que conlleva la construccin y/o reconstruccin de un paradigma en torno a la interculturalidad, que permita hacer un mejor aprovechamiento de la diversidad cultural costarricense.

Abstract Contributing to recognition and practice of diversity from an educational level implies commitment to the social actors involved in training processes, educating in and for diversity, so that the inhabitants, from an early age develop competencies that require "living in diversity". This article is part of the project "Bases for a conceptualization of interculturalism in the Costa Rican reality, according to the opinion of different social actors", presented in it are some theoretical aspects as a foundation and the results of the

query made by voluntary domestic and foreign participants from different backgrounds: Central American, South American, North American and European, living in different areas of the country, about indicators related to stereotypes and discrimination focused on two categories: origin and religious belief; It is from their day-to-day experience, product of the contact and interaction in mutual coexistence with Costa Ricans, that were achieved valuable results for awareness of the great challenges associated with the construction and/or reconstruction of a paradigm around multiculturalism, which allows to make a better use of the Costa Rican cultural diversity. PRINCIPALES INDICADORES DEL CONTEXTO SOCIOCULTURAL COSTARRICENSE DEL SIGLO XXI PARA UNA PROPUESTA ACTUAL DE FORMACIN RELIGIOSA ESCOLAR

MAIN INDICATORS OF THE COSTA RICAN SOCIOCULTURAL CONTEXT OF THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY TO A CURRENT PROPOSAL OF SCHOOL RELIGIOUS FORMATION

Resumen La acelerada transformacin cultural de la sociedad costarricense y el surgimiento de una nueva legislacin educativa, prescriben nuevas condiciones que demandan una propuesta pedaggica renovada en el mbito religioso. Por tanto, se parte de un diagnstico de la Realidad Sociocultural costarricense desde tres perspectivas: Humana, Social y Tecnolgica, el cual arroja una serie de retos y exigencias para el Sistema Educativo de este pas, especialmente en el mbito de la educacin formal que trabaja la dimensin religiosa y espiritual del ser humano. Este estudio exploratorio, de enfoque cualitativo, contiene la opinin de diferentes estratos sociales acerca de los principales indicadores del presente contexto sociocultural costarricense, que deben orientar y ser abordados desde una propuesta pertinente y actual de Formacin Religiosa Escolar. The accelerated cultural transformation of Costa Rican society and the rise of a new educational legislation, determine new conditions that require a renewed pedagogical proposal in the religious sphere. Therefore, we started from a diagnosis of a social cultural Costa Rican reality from three perspectives: Human, Social and Technological, which results on new requirements for the educative system of this country, especially in the formal sphere involving the religious and spiritual dimensions of the human being. This exploratory study, of a qualitative approach, contains the opinion of different social strata about the main indicators of the present Costa Rican social

cultural context that must guide and be faced from a relevant and current proposal of School Religious Formation.

Resumen El ser humano atraviesa una nueva etapa de la historia, que muchos han denominado posmodernidad, la cual deja de lado los valores tradicionales para sustituirlos por otros ms consecuentes a esas corrientes como la globalizacin, el relativismo, movimientos ideolgicos, las polticas econmicas y sociales. El ser humano, a travs de estas visiones de mundo, se ve a s mismo como un producto ms del mercado, ha perdido su identidad y se ha despersonalizado. Hoy el mundo y su cultura, en palabras de Beens, (1996) se caracterizan por la ciencia y la tecnologa, en miras a una sociedad eficiente y eficaz, en lo rentable, mercantilista, quitando espacio a los valores de la honestidad, lealtad, fidelidad, solidaridad y otros. La Educacin Religiosa en defensa de la dignidad y promocin humana tiene un deber, que segn el Magisterio de la Iglesia describe como la misin del ser humano. El quehacer educativo, deja ver un reto en la Educacin Religiosa, marcado por la necesidad de retornar a los orgenes cristianos, no solo de la educacin formal, sino del aparato estatal costarricense. Esta realidad plantea a los docentes de Educacin Religiosa la pregunta sobre el ser y quehacer de su labor profesional, de este modo, se

pretende aportar una serie de rasgos y competencias que pueda fortalecer la identidad de este docente.

Abstract The human being is in the course of a new phase of history, which many have called Post modernity, which sets aside the traditional values to replace them with some more consistent to those current such as globalization, relativism, ideological movements and economic and social policies. Many times the human being, through these visions of the world, sees himself as a product, he has lost his identity and has depersonalized. Today the world and its culture, in the words of Beens, (1996) characterized by "Science and technology", in view of an efficient and effective society, in that which is profitable and mercantilist, is getting rid of the values of honesty, loyalty, faithfulness, solidarity and others. Religious Education in defense of dignity and human promotion has a duty, that according to the Magisterium of the church express this Mission of being human. The educational work permits us to see a challenge in religious education, manifested by the need to return to Christian origins, not only of formal education, but of the Costa Rican State apparatus. This reality raises the question about being teachers of Religious Education and activities of their professional work, in this way, its intended to provide a series of traits and competencies that can strengthen the identity of the teacher. El duelo por muerte desde la perspectiva educativa: acercamiento terico.

Asesor Nacional de Educacin Religiosa MEP Resumen El presente artculo presenta una parte de la fundamentacin terica del trabajo final de graduacin para optar por el grado acadmico de Doctorado en Ciencias de la Educacin, titulado Experiencias de los procesos de duelo por muerte en la educacin formal (2008) acerca del apoyo que la educacin formal, expresada en las instituciones educativas, brinda ante las situaciones de duelo por muerte, durante la etapa escolar, en las comunidades educativas de Costa Rica, tomando como referencia el Colegio Claretiano, en Mercedes Norte de Heredia. Con la presente investigacin, se busca aportar a la sociedad costarricense algunas estrategias para subsanar una deficiencia de la formacin docente y administrativa: carencia de fundamentos tericos para afrontar el duelo por muerte en las instituciones educativas. El artculo pretende analizar los conceptos de muerte, duelo, sus respectivas etapas y por ser un artculo de ndole pedaggico, se expone al final las tareas que se pueden implementar en los centros educativos por parte de administradores educativos y personal docente. Ya que generalmente el apoyo de las instituciones educativas se limitan a acciones de tipo contingencial, que no responden a polticas planificadas sobre cmo se puede tornar el evento del duelo por muerte, en una experiencia educativa. Finalmente, valga la aclaracin que no se pretende incursionar en campos especficos como la tanatologa, psicologa, orientacin o trabajo social, sino se trata de acercar y apropiar en el campo pedaggico, los distintos aportes que estas ramas del conocimiento brindan para su aplicacin en el campo educativo. De manera que la educacin formal colabore para mejorar la calidad de vida de los dolientes por muerte, de manera holstica.

Abstract
This article presents some of the theoretical foundations of the final graduation to qualify for the degree of Doctor of Science in Education, entitled "Experiences of mourning death processes in formal education" (2008) about the support formal education, expressed in educational institutions, provides in situations of mourning death, during school, in the educational communities of Costa Rica, with reference to the Colegio Claretiano in Mercedes Norte de Heredia. With this research, we seek to bring to Costa Rican society some strategies to overcome a deficiency of teacher education and administration: lack of theoretical foundations to face death mourning in educational institutions.

The article analyzes the concepts of death, mourning, and their stages and, being an article of pedagogical nature, is exposed to end tasks that can be implemented in schools by school administrators and teachers. Since generally the support of educational institutions are limited to contingency type actions, which do not respond to planned policies on how to turn the event of death mourned in an educational experience.

Finally, it is worth clarifying that it is not intended as specific fields dabble in thanatology, psychology, counseling or social work, but tries to bring closer and appropriate the educational field, the different contributions that provide these branches of knowledge for application in the educational field. In this way, formal education collaborates to improve the quality of life of the bereaved by death, in a holistically way.

Eficacia de la formacin acadmica de la Universidad Catlica de Costa Rica en el desempeo del docente de Educacin Religiosa Efficacy of academic training at the Catholic University of Costa Rica in the performance of teachers of Religious Education Grace Chanto Ziga Ida Luz Mejas Gmez Costa Rica Resumen Ante una sociedad de cambios inciertos, una poltica neoliberal, surge cuestionarse Cul es el papel del docente de Educacin Religiosa en el sistema educativo? Estar respondiendo a la demanda de la realidad? Aunado en el actual contexto sociocultural, la universidad es un ptimo espacio de aprendizaje, no slo de carcter profesional y cultural en su sentido ms amplio, sino tambin de carcter humano, y por ende, tico y moral. Por tanto, atendiendo los resultados del estudio y segn las opiniones de los docentes entrevistados se pueden destacar que los docentes de Educacin Religiosa como agentes de pastoral, deben adquirir consciencia de aquellas capacidades requeridas para un ejercicio profesional en Educacin Religiosa. Asimismo la eficacia es un concepto que posee diversas interpretaciones, lo que obliga a delimitar la acepcin que se pretenda utilizar en una investigacin y en este caso es como concepto de los estudios realizados en la Universidad Catlica de Costa Rica, para el desenvolvimiento en el trabajo de los graduados de Educacin Religiosa.

Abstract Faced with a changing uncertain society, and neoliberal policies, a question arises; what is the role of the teacher of Religious Education in the educational system? Are they responding to the demands of reality? In addition to the current socio-cultural context, the university is an excellent learning place, not only in a professional and cultural character in its broadest sense, but also of human nature, and therefore, ethical and moral. Therefore, taking the results of the study and according to the opinions of the interviewed teachers we can emphasize that

teachers of Religious Education as pastoral agents, must become aware of those skills required for professional practice in Religious Education. Efficacy is also a concept that has different interpretations, which requires defining the meaning intended to be used in research and in this case as concept studies in the Catholic University of Costa Rica, for the development in the work of graduates in Religious Education.
