Assumption - A hidden statement that must be accepted as a given in order for a statement to be true.

For example, " Notes Common Assumptions A->B and not the other way round A is the only thing that causes B. C doesnt cause A & B In order for B to occur, A HAS to happen Inference - Something that can be concluded for a given set of facts. If A->B an d B->C then we can infer that A->C Paradox - A situation that is contrary to the facts presented. For example, "I h ave $100 in my account but I am going to buy the $2000 Macbook pro". Conclusion - The main point of a set of statements or arguments. "It rains every two weeks in Seattle, and since it hasn't rained for 13 days therefore we can e xpect rainfall tomorrow." Evidence - Tricky for me. What constitues an evidence. In GMAT world, any study, experiment or scientific data constitutes evidence What doesnt constitute as evidence? 1. Author's personal belief. For example, "I believe blah blah blah" 2. Something that is likely to happen in the near future Premise - Could be an evidence, or fact. A premise is a statement upon which an argument's conclusion rests. For example, "Apple makes the most beautfiul produc ts in the world and people like products that are beautiful so everyone should b uy an Apple product" Premise - Apple makes beautiful computers Premise - Everyone likes beautfiul computers Circumstance - Mentioned as a situation in the argument. Usually serves as evide nce or premise. Claim - A claim is just that, a claim. It may or may not be true. You dont need evidence to backup a claim. For example, "This restaurant serves the best food i n the world". This is a claim, the author doesnt have evidence to prove it. He h asnt tasted food at all restaurants netiher does he have a study that might poss ible back his claim Hypothesis - A theory or speculation that could be derived from a given set of f acts. For example,"It rains every two weeks in Seattle, and since it hasn't rain ed for 13 days therefore I hypothesize that there will be rainfall tomorrow." Fact Principle Putting it together, "Roger Federer is the best tennis player in the world. However, he is past his p rime playing age. Moreover, Djokovic has been training harder and is not likely to concede the number 1 spot. Therefore, its debatable whether Federer will ever regain his former ranking".

Premise - Roger Federer is past his prime Premise - Djokovic is training harder to hold #1 Conclusion - Roger Federer cannot regain his #1 spot Assumption - In order to be #1, one has to beat Djokovic "Resulting from" is wrong, "As a result of" is correct
