The Crucible Final Draft The Crucible is the story of the salem witch trials.

The salem witch trials is the trials against every day citizens calling them witches. The girls in the town were claiming that the town people were sending their spirits out to harm the girls. If someone was charged with witch craft and they confessed then they stayed in jail for some time but, they are aloud to live. If someone was charged with witch craft and didn't confess then they were hung. The towns people who would not confess, or lie, were heroes. The towns people, like John Proctor and Rebecca Nurse, believed in their morals so much that they were willing to die for them. They could have confessed to save their lives but they were not willing to lie, it was against their morals. "But I wilted, and, like a Christian, I confessed" (Miller 60). John confessed to his wife that he had cheated, he was not willing to lie. "I am innocent to a witch" (Miller 87). Martha Corey died because of and for those words. "Why, it is a lie, it is a lie; now may I damn myself? I cannot, I cannot" (Miller 141). Rebecca Nurse would not lie, not even for her life. They would not call others witches either even though it would help them. The heroes of The Crucible would not lie and say that they had seen others do witch craft. They would not forfeit their friends. "I speak of my own sins: I cannot judge another" (Miller 142). John Procter could

only speak for himself, it was not his place to judge or blame others. "I have three children__ how may I teach them to walk like men in the world, and I sold my friends" (Miller 144)? John felt that he could not teach his sons to be good men if he was not a good man. John would not falsely accuse others as he had been falsely accused. John Proctor and Rebecca Nurse would die for their beliefs. They would die for what is right. John and Rebecca died with clear conscience and no one would take that from them. They were true heroes and the town was changed because of them. Soon after they were hung the towns people saw how crazy the witch trials were and ended them. The victims who lived and the families of the victims who died were compensated. The town made a memorial in the victims honor.
