PROCESS ALARM NOTIFICATION

The Block Detail Display
1. Access the FoxSelect display and expand your compound.
You will now ensure that your FIC005 PIDA block has no alarms.
2. Double-click on FIC005 PIDA under your compound name.
3. Minimize the FoxSelect display to better observe the resulting display.

What display appears on the screen?

_________________________________________________________________________

Is the setpoint area on the faceplate highlighted in yellow?

_________________________________________________________________________
Since it should be highlighted in yellow, you may now change the value of the setpoint with the
button on the bottom of the display.
4. Use the Value Box on the bottom of the display to change the setpoint of FIC005 to 30 if need be.
5. Wait until the flow return to 30.0 M3/Hr and then select ACK to acknowledge all alarms (if any)
in the block.
6. Ensure that there are no alarms before continuing.
7. Change the setpoint to 15.0.
This will initiate a high deviation and a low absolute alarm.
8. Wait until the low absolute alarm becomes active.

What has happened to the [Process] button?

_________________________________________________________________________
9. Observe the faceplate on the Block Detail display.

Explain the meaning of the alarm abbreviation appearing on the faceplate?

_________________________________________________________________________

Explain the color of the alarm abbreviation background color?

_________________________________________________________________________

How can you tell from the faceplate that the alarms have not been acknowledged?
_________________________________________________________________________

What indication on the PIDA faceplate informs you that an alarm exists?
_________________________________________________________________________
10. Look at the Block Alarm Summary area.

What text appears in this area?

_________________________________________________________________________
_________________________________________________________________________

Alarm Configuration

11. Select ALARM TEXT on the matrix of softkeys.

 What appears on the screen?

_________________________________________________________________________

Are the Alarm Text parameters settable?

_________________________________________________________________________
12. Select ALARMS on the matrix of softkeys.

 What appears on the screen?

_________________________________________________________________________
13. Observe the parameters listed on the resulting overlay.

What parameter in the overlay indicates the priority of the deviation alarm?
_________________________________________________________________________

What parameter in the overlay indicates the priority of the absolute alarm?
_________________________________________________________________________

When will a high deviation alarm occur?

_________________________________________________________________________

When will a high absolute alarm occur?

_________________________________________________________________________
14. Select the measurement alarms priority field and change its value to 4.

What happens to the alarm mnemonic in the faceplate?

_________________________________________________________________________
15. Return the value to 1.
16. Select ACK.
The alarm in the PIDA block has been acknowledged but it still is active.

How can you tell from the faceplate that the alarms have been acknowledged?
_________________________________________________________________________

What happens to the [Process] key after a few moments?

_________________________________________________________________________
17. Return the setpoint to 30 and ensure that no alarms in the PIDA block exist and that inactive ones
have been acknowledged.

What happens to the [Process] key after a few moments?

_________________________________________________________________________
18. Change the setpoint to 165 to create a low deviation alarm and a high absolute alarm.
19. Wait until the HIABS mnemonic appears on the faceplate.

Alarm Configuration

The Compound Detail Display

1. Reaccess the FoxSelect display.

What indications appear on this display to inform you that a priority 1 alarm exists within
your compound?
_________________________________________________________________________
2. Select WAXDRUM and then SHOW.
3. Minimize the FoxSelect display again to better observe the resulting display.

 What display appears?

_________________________________________________________________________

What is the value of the ALMLEV parameter?

_________________________________________________________________________

Why is the ALMLEV parameter equal to this number?

_________________________________________________________________________

What is the value of CINHIB?

_________________________________________________________________________

What type of alarms will be inhibited?

__________________________________________________________________________
_________
What would value would CINHIB have to be in order to have no block alarms inhibited?
_________________________________________________________________________

 Is CINHIB a settable parameter?

_________________________________________________________________________
4. Select CINHIB.
5. Select the Slow Ramp Up button to the left of the Value Box to increment CINHIB by one.
6. Set CINHIB to 4 using the Slow Ramp Down key.
7. Observe the names listed under DEVICE GROUP 1.

Explain the purpose of these devices.

_________________________________________________________________________
_________________________________________________________________________

Are the group device parameters settable?

_________________________________________________________________________

Alarm Configuration

The AIN Block Detail Display

1. Select CNTRL on the matrix of softkeys to ensure that the Control Parameters page is available
on the PIDA Block Detail display.
2. Select the area just below MEAS in the Control Parameters page.
3. Select SRC and then SOURCE DETAIL on the resulting linkage overlay to access the AIN
Block Detail display.

What is the value of the PNT parameter?

_________________________________________________________________________
4. Select ALARM on the matrix of softkeys to access the Alarm Parameters page for the AIN block

What is the priority of the OUT OF RANGE alarm?

_________________________________________________________________________

What alarm devices will notify you if an OUT OF RANGE alarm occurs?
_________________________________________________________________________
_________________________________________________________________________
5. Select CONFIG to access the Configuration Parameters page for the AIN block.
6. Observe the value of the BAD parameter.
The value is N which means that an IOBAD alarm does not exist. The faceplate also does not
have the mnemonic IOBAD indicating that an IOBAD alarm does not exist.
You will now generate an IOBAD alarm and observe the results on the AIN Block Detail display.
You will make IOMOPT=2, which means that FBM must be connected to AIN block.
7. Select CNTRL on the matrix of softkeys.

What mnemonic appears on the faceplate?

_________________________________________________________________________

What is the value of the RAWC parameter?

_________________________________________________________________________

Did the PNT parameter maintain it last good value?

_________________________________________________________________________
Although an input signal within the defined range cannot be detected by the AIN block, the
output retains it last good value. This means that your loop is still maintaining the last output to
the valve that controls the level in the tank.
8. Select CONFIG on the matrix of softkeys.

What is the value of the BAD parameter now?

_________________________________________________________________________
A failed FBM would cause a System Management alarm and the [System] button to blink.
However, the FBM has not failed; the signal into one of its channels has malfunctioned. A low
Out-of-Range alarm therefore has occurred.
