To: My Fellow Union Members From: Bruce Meirowitz Re: Contract Update As summer draws to a close, I believe many of you are wondering about the status of our settled contract, raise and retroactive pay. Our agreement was reached on June 14th, submitted to the Legislature, and approved in the form of a pay bill on June 19th. The agreement allocated about 5.6 million dollars in funds. The next step in the process is the signature of the Governor. At the present time, Governor Cuomo has hundreds of bills to sign. Bills are submitted in bundles and then signed. Our delay has been due to the quantity of bills in need of his signature. When our bill is signed, we will be notified by the Governors Office of Employee Relations as to the time line for us to receive our benefits. Our retroactive pay salary adjustment from April 1st of 2013 until the close of this season will be paid at the new rate of pay. The retroactive pay back to 2004 will also be paid to those lifeguards who are currently working or on an official leave. I am aware that this process is frustrating for all of us. I am in constant communication with UUP and can assure you that this is a settled agreement, and the State of New York will respect their legal responsibilities. A copy of the Bill, A08032, is available for your review. You will also note the pay scales have been included as well as an explanation of the settlement. The final printing of the settlement will be available when UUP produces the final contract to all members. I appreciate your continued patience and support in this lengthy process.
