CLUSTER-BASED WORKSHOP-CONTEST for SECONDARY CAMPUS JOURNALISTS


August 7 and 8, 2013 Unida Christian Colleges Anabu II, City of Imus, Cavite GUIDELINES
1. In line with the thrusts to promote responsible journalism and pursuant to the Division Educational Media Workplan CY of Activities for 2013, the Secondary Cluster of DepEd Imus City shall conduct the 2013 live-out SECONDARY CLUSTER TRAINING IN CAMPUS JOURNALISM for school paper advisers and student writers on the various aspects of newspaper work on August 7-8, 2013 at Unida Christian Colleges, Anabu II, City of Imus. 2. The training aims to: a. Demonstrate commitment to the advocacies of campus journalism and integrating them in related school/community initiatives through varied journalistic forms/approaches and technological media. b. Provide a forum to enhance journalistic competence through healthy competition on different aspects of campus journalism 3. The plenary sessions for both English and Filipino for secondary levels will cover eight (8) categories:
3.1 News Writing 3.2 Editorial Writing 3.3 Feature Writing 3.4 Copyreading and Headline Writing 3.5 Sports Writing 3.6 Editorial Cartooning 3.7 Photojournalism 3.8 Radio Broadcasting

4. All student and teacher advisers from public schools are required to participate. Student writers and teacher advisers from private schools may also attend. (For private schools, coordinate with Ms Lorina Advincula, Del Pilar Academy principal) 5. A registration fee of one hundred pesos (Php100.00) will be charged to each delegate (students/delegates and teacher-advisers) to cover expenses for the resource speakers honoraria, certificates, medals, token and operations.

6. Registration fees and transportation expenses of participants, incidental to their attendance in this training, shall be charged against local funds or school paper funds subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations. Participants from the private schools shall make necessary arrangements with their institution in connection with their attendance in the training. 7. Each delegate will bring his/her own provision for lunch and snacks for two (2) days. 8. In the Photojournalism contest, each contestant is required to bring the following materials: a. Digital Camera (point and shoot only) with a maximum of 16 megapixels. Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) and other high-end digital cameras shall not be allowed. b. Blank or empty storage card (compact flash, SD card, MMC) shall be submitted to the photojournalism proctors during the registration for checking and coding prior the contest. c. Likewise, student participants are requested to bring the following layout materials like ruler, glue, pencil, pentel pen, sign pens among others. White cartolina will be provided by the organizers. 9. A sound system for Radio Broadcasting will be provided by the host school. Each participating school, however, is requested to provide laptop and printer for their own use. 10. Numbered enclosures for the participants guidance and perusal are the following: 1. 11. Immediate dissemination of the content of this memorandum, especially to those concerned, is earnestly desired.
