The Timmermans and Bertkes spent two nights at this beautiful castle, which was home to many movie
stars during the filming of John Fords The Quiet Man in 1951. From 1852-1939 Ashford Castle was
in the Guinness family, and then opened as a luxury hotel in 1939. Over the years the castle has hosted
many celebrities, including John Wayne, Robin Williams, Bob Hope, and many others. Now the
Timmermans and Bertkes have joined that elite group, becoming celebrities of a sort themselves by
winning our Take Us Along contest. Pat Timmerman will find a prize in her mailbox one day soon!

The Covington Newberry Historical Society invites one and all to
their 25th Annual Bean and Chili Dinner to take place Saturday, Sept.
7, 11 a.m. til 5 p.m., at the museum located at the corner of Spring
and Pearl Sts. in Covington.
The mayor will do the honors and participate in a ribbon-cutting
ceremony at 11 a.m., and there will be music and entertainment for
the kids throughout the day.
The first Bean Dinner was started as a fundraiser the first Saturday
after Labor Day and was quite a success. The dinner has continued
throughout the years and has become a well-loved tradition.
