Attendance
When your child is absent, an excuse note must be submitted ASAP. All students should arrive to school no later than 9:20. Students are tardy after 9:20 Unexcused absences may result in a SARC meeting.

Student Agendas
Students should be filling out their agenda books daily with homework assignments and upcoming tests and project due dates. You can also find important information in the agenda book like dress code policy, promotion criteria, and policies and procedures at RMS.
Promotion Criteria
All students must pass 4 out of 5 classes each semester to be promoted to the seventh grade. A child must earn a 70% or higher average each semester in order to pass. Both Language Arts and Math must be passed both semesters in order for a child to be promoted. Students in the gifted/honors program must earn at least a 74% average in academic classes in order to maintain eligibility for this team.
Dress Code
As you shop and prepare for the school year ahead, please be mindful of the following Dress Code specifics. Students are expected to dress in a manner that is Supportive of a Positive learning environment. Students shall not dress in a way as to DISTRACT from the learning environment. Following are some examples. Please review your students agenda for all Dress Code Guidelines.

No tank tops (boys or girls), tops that reveal midriff, or sheer clothing that makes underclothing visible are allowed at school.

All pants should be worn at the waist. Pants cannot SAG. No underclothing (boxers or shorts) should be visible.

Grading Distribution
Please refer to the syllabus for each academic class for information on grading policies, as they vary slightly by department. In addition to regular tests, projects, and class work, students will take a midterm and a comprehensive final exam each semester.
Work Ethic
In order to be successful on the gifted/honors team, students must be willing to put forth additional effort. Our classes are designed to challenge our students with high, yet reachable, expectations to ensure their greatest achievement .

Social Studies
In 6th grade social studies we set our focus on four areas of the world: Europe and Canada 1st semester, Latin America and Australia 2nd Semester, in each are of the world we look at the geography, history, government and economics of the countries. We concentrate on vocabulary above all else and writing is am essential part of our curriculum, Next year the students will be learning about Africa, the Middle East and the far east. Our curriculum this year gives the students a great foundation to stand on in terms of how countries communicate and trade with each other.

If you would like access to your childs grades at any time, you can sign up for the Parent Portal in the Parent Center. Keep in mind that teachers may not necessarily enter new grades every day, so averages may not change on a daily basis. For access, sign up in the parent center with Mrs. Forrester

Extra Help
Every Wednesday morning at 8:15am, students may come in for extra help with any of their teachers . Please let us know Tuesday if you plan on coming in Wednesday morning. We offer other times by appointment.

Teachers use Class Dojo to monitor both positive and negative behaviors 3 positive points in a week = positive behavior referral 3 negative points in a week = a step on the team discipline plan

Field Trip
Location: Tybee Island, Georgia Dates: February 10-12, 2014 Cost: $200 we will fundraise! We need chaperones! This will be an incredible opportunity! If you are hesitant, PLEASE talk to me. It will be an unforgettable, life changing, educational experience for all!
