Desde el ao 2002, la revista de arquitectura y tecnologa a+t realiz un trabajo de investigacin sobre el tema de la vivienda colectiva, que fue el material base de cuatro nmeros, agrupados dentro del ttulo genrico de Densidad. La primera recopilacin de Densidad, editada como libro en Octubre del 2004, se ha convertido en un referente de las publicaciones sobre vivienda colectiva y planeamiento urbano. Esta versin condensada que ahora presentamos, en donde se incluyen todos los proyectos e ndices comparativos de la primera edicin, es una respuesta a la excelente acogida que tuvo la publicacin inicial, cuyos ejemplares se han agotado. From 2002 to 2004, the architecture and technology magazine a+t did a study on collective housing. The results of this study became the basic material of four issues falling under the generic theme of Density. The first compilation, produced as a book in October 2004, has become a reference for publications on mass housing and urban planning. This new version, condensed but nonetheless including all the projects and comparative indicators of the first edition, is the result of a desire to make the publication easier to consult and handle, and of hopes of maintaining attention on the importance of density in the future of cities.

El Carr fue diseado como una manzana relativamente compacta realizada a partir de una serie de densos bloques apilados. La base del edificio se asienta sobre un pedestal que contiene un aparcamiento de uso privado. La circulacin del edificio se organiza a travs de tres mdulos de escaleras y ascensor a los que se llega a travs del patio. En el lado de la entrada principal, un puerta de doble altura recorre en toda su anchura este lado del patio, ofreciendo una vista de los antiguos edificios militares y de la parte antigua de la ciudad. El edificio est especialmente pensado para personas mayores que buscan una vivienda ms reducida, despus de que sus hijos se han marchado de casa, debido a su proximidad con el centro y al alto grado de servicios que ofrece el Chass Terrain. The Carr was designed as a relatively compact block made up of a series of densely stacked volumes. The building floor plate sits on a pedestal containing a parking garage for the inhabitants of the building. Circulation of the building is arranged by three staircases and elevator tracts which can be reached through the courtyard. On the side of the main entrance a 2 story high gate is cut out along the width of the side of the courtyard, providing a view of the monumental army convent, barracks and the old part of the city. The building was carefully designed for retiring baby boomers, people who move to a smaller house because their children have moved out, because of its proximity to the city centre and the high service level of the Chass site.
