Specification For Acceptable Surface Defects In Weld Visual Inspection 1. Scope: All finished welds on our products are subjected to weld visual examination for surface defects. This specification covers the norms for acceptable surface defects on all butt and fillet welds made in our works. Inspectors who are trained and qualified for weld visual examination shall identify and evaluate the defects on weld surface.
2. Objective:
The specification is prepared with an objective of creating a uniform standard in weld visual quality on our entire product. The specification is expected to provide necessary clarity to all those who are involved in achieving the required level of weld surface finish. 3. Applicable Document: The following documents shall be referred prior to inspection. Applicable Drawings Customer specification if any. Test Plan. 4. Inspection Aids: The following inspection aids shall be made available. Magnifying Glass Hand Lamp 5. Extent of Examination: Weld visual examination is required on all completed welds (Butt & Fillet) visible on finished components. The quality of weld produced by any process shall be evaluated for its full length including 20 mm wide base metal adjacent to weld edges. The type of surface defects stated in Annexure I shall be identified by naked eye within the light of a hand lamb. A magnifying glass of less than 4 X magnifications may be used to confirm the doubtful indications, if any. 6. Identification, Evaluation And Acceptance Limit: Only trained and qualified inspectors shall identify the defects in weld visual examination. All identified defects shall be evaluated for acceptance / repair in accordance with the norms specified in annexure I. All unacceptable defects shall be repaired to bring them within the acceptable limit
