Next Steps in the Next Term

At the end of first term, we spent a lot of time seeking the Lord over what our ministry focus ought to be during our next term. We LOVED spending two years working at Heritage International School and alongside the university students at Kampala International University. It was a hard decision between chaplain at Heritage or university ministry at KIU and future expansion sites. After much prayer and conversation, we are excited to focus our time and energy on the university ministry! We firmly believe that university students in Africa have some of the greatest potential to see real transformation in their communities. In Uganda, and East Africa especially, the number of young people who make it to university is very small and so they will become leaders and game changers almost right away. For example, we have former members of our university ministry in these following locations around East Africa: many in the education sector and hospitality industry and leading NGOs (nongovernmental organizations). There are also many involved in government at the local and national levels, such as a member in the South Sudan government, two members involved in the attorney generals office of Kenya, and a member who is a personal assistant to the vice president of Kenya. God is using these young people in very important and influential circles. We want to be a part of that! When we return to Uganda, we will spend a lot of their time building upon an existing intern program at the main ministry site in Kampala. We have former students who feel led to remain in Kampala after graduation in order to serve God in university ministry. We want to support and train them effectively. If they continue to feel led into ministry, we want to send them out to universities in Africa that need ministries started or strengthened.

Next Steps How to Grow in Your Missions Activity

One of the biggest needs we have found as we have spent a lot of time visiting different universities around Uganda and Kenya specifically is that of discipleship. This weighs heavily on our hearts because if these students are going to find themselves in places of influence, it is extremely important that they are grounded in the Word of God and know why they believe what they believe. Its a tough challenge to make disciples in such a transient environment, but we believe this is what God wants us to be a part of. So in Kampala and across East Africa, we hope to build up the discipleship ministries at many different universities. We will also continue to lead discipleship groups at our local Kampala university ministries. We want to give you some tangible next steps to help you think about what God might want you to do to grow in your missions activity this year.
If you are not currently supporting a missionary on a regular basis If you are currently supporting a missionary on a regular basis... If you are not faithful in praying for missions If you are currently praying for missions regularly... If you have not been on a foreign missions trip If you have been on a foreign missions trip... Then you could read Treasure Principle by Randy Alcorn or start pledging monthly. Then you could gather a group of friends & invite a missionary to dessert & discussion. Then you could designate one day a week to praying for missions. Then you could start hosting a monthly missions prayer meeting. Then you could consider going on a shortterm missions trip. Then you could consider leading a team on a short-term missions trip.

Prayer Requests

Continue praying for our transition back to the United States. It has been fairly smooth, but the novelty is wearing off a bit for the boys. Please pray for our health, safety, and sanity as we head into 24 weeks of solid ministry and travel here in the U.S. Join us in praying that God would provide all our financial support by April 2014.

We will still be involved at Heritage as parents and volunteers and are very excited about the ministry happening at Heritage. However, the universities will be our focus, and we are confident that is what the Lord wants. Thanks for joining us and praying for this very important ministry!

Watch Us Grow
We are so grateful for your prayers for our family as we had to live on two separate continents for a month. Josh is now home with us and were so glad! Jesus really carried us! Our family is not only growing in age were also growing in number! We are expecting a baby on January 4, 2014! It is such a gift that Jesus has allowed us to raise another little one for His kingdom! We are glad to be back in the States for this year and want to connect with you! If we can do dinner or coffee or come to your church, we would love that! Our contact information is on the front. Thank you for being on our team!
