TWO CYCLE MOMENT DISTRIBUTION METHOD REFERENCE : 1. Application of Moment Distribution Published by the Concrete Association of India, Bombay.

2. Manual on Planning and Design of RC Multistoreyed Buildings Published by CPWD, New Delhi.. 3. Design & Construction of Multistoreyed Buildings TNPWD Association. PROCEDURE: Roof Frame a11 b11 c11

FIRST CYCLE: Span a11-b11 Joint a11 1. As there is no other span left of a11, the TLM is considered for distribution of B.M. = TLM x Beam Distn. Factor x to be taken to keft of joint b11 with opposite sign. = (141.12) x 0.45 x =+31.75 KN.m. 2. This moment is again to be distributed to the middle span with (1+Beam distn. Factor at left of b11)x1/2. The sign for this carry over moment is same as it moves from right to left. i.e. = +31.75 x (1+0.17) x =+18.57 KN.m Joint b11 3. The difference between TLM of left of b11 and DLM of right of b11 is to be distributed and half is carried over to right of a11 with opposite sign. =(TLM of left of b11- DLM of right of b11) x BDF at left of b11 x = -(141.12-111.72) x 0.17 x =- 2.50KN.m

4. This moment is again to be distributed to the middle span (1+ BDF at right of a11)x . The sign for this carry over moment is opposite as it moves from left to right. i.e. = +2.50 x (1+0.45) x =+1.81 KN.m Span b11-c11 Joint b11 5. As there is an adjacent span (a11 b11) to the left of joint b11, TLM of right of joint b11- DLM of left of joint b11. (TLM of support moment for span b11c11-DLM of suppoty moment for span b11 a11) is to be distributed and half is carried over to the keft of support of joint c11 with opposite sign. (TLM of b11c11-DLM of b11a11) x (BDF of b11c11)x i.e. =- (-141.12+111.72) x 0.17 x =+2.50KN.m 6. This moment is again to be carried over to be the middle of span b11c11. Moment x(1+BDF of c11b11) x i.e. +2.50 x(1+0.45) x = +1.81 KN.m. Joint c11 7. As there is no other span right of joint c11, the TLM is considered for distribution and carry over is calculated as in step 1. = -141.12 x 0.45/2= -31.75 at right of b11. =- (-31.75 ) x (1+0.17) x = +18.57 KN.m at mid span of b11c11. 8. The mid span moment along the line of TLM is worked out as follows: (TLM of a11b11 +TLM of b11a11) x = (141.12 +141.12) x = 70.56 KN.m 2 Similarly Mid span moment of span b11c11=70.56 KN.m 9. Then, all values of B.M. from TLM line to CO are added algebraically to get the values in the line marked addition. i.e. (141.12+2.50) =-143.62 70.56+18.57+1.81=+90.94 141.12+31.75 =+172.87 etc. SECOND CYCLE: 10. This moment is then distributed to beam and column according to the distribution factors, with opposite sign. Beam Distn =(-143.62) x 0.45=+64.63 KN.m Column Distn. =(-143.62) x 0.55 =+78.99 KN.m

The difference of -143.62+64.63=-78.99 KN.m is noted down as Theoretical B.M. at support. This theoretical B.M. (-78.91) is alone considered for designing the beam. In every joint, this theoretical Beam moments (Upper & lower) if they are added it must become =0; M=0. 11. Shear correction( which is due to the width of column support to the tone of V a 3 12. To the support theoretical moment and V a to the mid span moment) is given 6 to arrive at Design moment in the support and mid span. i.e.(-78.89) (-100.80 x 0.60 ) =-58.87 KN.m at support. 3 = 90.94- (100.80 x 0.80 ) = +79.19 KN.m at mid span. 6 13. Similarly correction is also given to the shear force due to the difference in the support moments at a11 and b11. This is to be substracted or added to the calculated shear force according to the quantum of moments at supports. i.e. for support a11 Corrected shear force = +100.80 - (-58.87+145.99) 8.40 =100.80-10.37 =90.43 KN at support a11. Corrected shear force = +100.80- (145.99-58.87) 8.40 =100.80+10.37 =111.17 KN at support b11. This procedure is used in the analysis of Multi span Multistoreyed frames for Gravity Loads.
